"Ah, the trademark fingerless gloves and impeccable manicure of a terrorist" such a good (probably improvised) line. I don't think Jonathan gets enough recognition for his ability as a presenter not just as an expert of the field. Very witty, engaging and passionate content is the result 😀
Yeah, he's one of the few people who have done this who not only gets and can appreciate why some decisions are the way they are in a video game, but he also has the real-life knowledge to back it up and tons of charisma. Johnathan is great.
The terrorists may do a little improvising themselves if you know what I’m saying
Good old British humor right there
Whole heartily agree. I love watching this show because Jonathan is such a pleasure to watch. Funny, witty, and passionate, whats not to love about this guy?
I agree with the rest of the comments here. Love watching Jonathan talk about the guns
I know he misspoke but the MP7 uses 4.6×30mm, not 5.7×28mm which he probably was thinking about the FN Five-seveN when he spoke.
I think he was thinking of how the game could re use the spent cases from the five seven instead of the reuse of the standard 9mm casings
@@hmmm2668 Yeah, that would be much more realistic.
wait.. they werent an MP platform using 5.7?
probably thinking of the p90, as they were developed at the same time for the same trial, and the round is built around the same idea
@@SL4PSH0CK nope! The HK MP7 and FN P90/5-7 were actually designed for a NATO competition, and use different proprietary cartridges
Something that’s really cool though is that the M20 SMG from Halo 5 is basically an MP7 using P90 magazines, which is pretty neat
“Most of my time was spent pre 1.6, that tells you how old I am” me too Jonathan, me too
The markings on CSGO's Deagle are mirrored because that's how the texture was mapped to it. Originally you couldn't inspect weapons so it wasn't a problem and they never made the other side of the texture for size reasons presumably, so they just reused the visible side and flipped it. Later when they added skins and the ability to inspect weapons the optimisation of the early models became more visible. Basically every weapon that was in the game at release has one or two issues like this if you really look at them (like the weird hole on the other side of the M4A4 mentioned later!), it's only with weapons that were added to the game after release that these issues don't exist because they were designed with weapon inspection in mind
For 1.6 it's because Gooseman (Minh Lee), the creator of Counter-Strike was left handed and would design the weapon models that way, so weapon models were mirrored for right handed players.
For all we know those wisconsin bear hunters could've just mirrored the cad file
Neat
Fancy seeing you here
I remember you :D
i saw your golden spoon video, and a few other Payday videos too!
Thanks for doing them! : )
The CS:GO M4 looks like what you’d get if someone tried to draw an M4 from memory.
I'm happy he pointed what was wrong with the model.
Since I started playing I always thought: "That M4 is kinda thick... Or is it just for me?"
@@rafaelscorsatodasilvadepau2385 Man same, I knew something was off but I could never point a finger at it
It's an MK18
Yeah, it's an MK-18, specifically closer to a Mod 0, its model is still pretty wacky but it's definitely got the key details.
well it doesnt exist, the A1 does, though it looks kinda wacky and old school
I think that the odd almost-real guns in Metal Gear Solid V might interest Jonathan. They're a variety of fictional analogues to real-world weapons of the time period, often blending multiple real weapons of similar provenance into a single design. And the customization system lets you mix and match a lot of parts.
I wanna see him react to the G44
@@fuckinantipope5511 yeahh he would definitely be interested in it
Not to mention you can actually make cursed guns in the game too XD
MGSV would be a cool video

"It's a game you're not gonna hurt yourself" comment urges me to recommend taking a look at Receiver 2 where you CAN shoot yourself if you don't holster your gun carefully and some guns are almost more deadly against you than the enemy. Also very good take on the mechanics on how to actually handle a firearm while tying that to the ingame lore. Dave please have a look at this Ludum Dare indie game that went ham on the nerdiness regarding guns.
thanks to receiver 2, i hate Glocks
Yes!! I’ve been wanting him to react to Receiver 2 for forever! I think he’d have a field day with the game’s mechanics.

This, very much this, both Receivers selling point is the simulation of weapons handling and mechanics with pin and springs.
even if somewhat exaggerated in some regards.
He gives credit to the devs for trying with the FN five-seven and then just RIPS into them for the AR-15's weird proportions. Its great.
Well the AR-15 at this point is older than some people's grandfathers. So there are millions of them floating out there. So getting a reference model isn't exactly difficult.
I personally wouldn't be surprised if the odd proportions are actually the result of using something like an airsoft rifle or a toy as a reference. IIRC it's pretty common thing in the industry, and has notably led to oddities in some guns in Payday 2 and CoD
@@obsidiangrimoire I wonder if that's why they called it M4A4. They looked at the result, realised it wasn't quite right and figured "well, let's say this was a later version and that's why it doesn't quite look how you'd expect" lol.
@@Stevenwave- I'd guess it's just because it's a newer version of the M4A1 that is in the game.
I definitely think we need an episode on Black(2006) because of just how many things explode when shot.
That game really deserves a remaster.
And also because of the hilarious amounts of inaccuracies in the guns in that game :)
Still a cool game though - quite impressive for its time!
God I loved that game...
I'd love that for his take on gameplay but I think he's did every gun in that game lol
Oh that was my favorite PS2 fps game, gunplay was soo fun but yeah very unrealistic and inaccurate, although it is super fun when the enemy uncontrollably fly backwards when shot with the spas. 😅
I mean hey, at least for the AR-15 reload they stopped pulling on the forward assist. That's gotta count for something lol

"And here, class, you can see a wonderful example of the extremely rare... HEY! BRING THAT BACK, FERGUSON!!!"
Hi, the reason weapons are mirrored in early CS is in fact that the original designer of the mod was a leftie and modeled the weapons as left hand shooter. There was a command in early CS in console that switched side to view the weaponmodel from left to right and vice versa. Having the model on the right mirrored the original model hence wierd mirrored weapons.
Still exists in CSGO: "cl_righthand 1"
He mentioned this in the first video
Not to mention that a lot of gun textures in early HL mods were only done on one side, as the player should in theory never even see the other side plus it conserved texture memory.
pls never stop this series. The possibilities are endless.
Was about to say the same thing, I only stumbled across these videos recently and I find them very interesting.
4:45 *wheeze* THIS is why you're our favorite, Mr. Ferguson
I grew up playing CSS and looking back I can't believe how weird the guns sounds, as a kid I thought it was so accurate.
i never expected shotguns to rip your eardrums in real life
but on the other hand i never expected mirrored guns to eject empty casings from the proper side.
they sound like 80s or 90s hollywood action stock effects
One comment on the revolver. When they reload, the extractor/ejector "star" stays in the rearward position until the shooter pushes it back, when it is actually spring-loaded and should snap back as soon as you release the ejection rod. That kind of pales in comparison to the fanning of a double action revolver, though. Fanning really isn't even possible with that style of revolver.
mayb the spring broke and they didnt bother replacing it
Hope to see him do more Payday 2. Preferably, the more obscure weapons like the AK5 or Tempest (Tavor)

Would be really cool if Jonathan made a video on *METAL GEAR SOLID 3* weapons. Been requesting for so long.
So many weapons in that game to comment on like the patriot, the EZ gun, Snake's M1911, Ocelot's SAA and Eva's chinese mauser clone. Want to know your take on the Boss disassembling Snake's 1911 without removing the slide stop and many many more...

Yess. I commented the same thing as well as 007 Nightfire
A trip down memory lane. I would love for Jonathan to take a look at some of the work from the prolific modding community from early Counter-Strike, in the old engine. A lot of very beautiful modeling, texturing and animating by some talented people who probably weren't gun experts and had to creatively fill some gaps in their knowledge.
And then there's those skins for the Dual Elites that were literally just two bananas in your hands, or literal finger guns.
Love to see his take on THOSE!
You guys have to talk Johnathon into a streaming session! I’d watch this guy paint a house if put a video up about it. Far and away the best presenter I’ve seen.
Id like Jonathan to see that we all think he is, in fact, the GOAT
This is the most effective use I've ever seen on the Minimi in all my years of playing CS 1.6, Source, and GO
I think Johnathan should return to Hunt Showdown, they added some new weapons to the game and it'd be interesting to see his take on them
As I have a long experience handling the G3 personally, there's some things I would like to add:
First, there seems to be something where the bipod legs lug should attach, almost like someone took the lug where the bipod feet attach without the feet and sort of permanently attached it there. Kind of a nitpick but I think worthy to mention.
The second point to make is the fact the cocking handle is not in the stowage position, which is forward and rather it is pulled outwards, which would technically make the rifle either unable to fire the loaded cartridge or a frag grenade ready to pop in your hands. This is because the initial "pull" on the cocking handle uses leverage inside the cocking tube - between the tube end and the handle in specific- to disengage the rollers in the bolt head. So having the handle in that position would mean the bolt is not in battery.
Overall great video though. I love learning what I can when it comes to video game firearm depictions and the functionality of real-steel.
Are there green handguards like the one depicted in the game? As Johnathan noticed, I don't think there are "green" handguards with this shape. The "green" ones (more oliv) are the ones with a rounder shape and holes, like in insurgency sandstorm.
@@Angelfox51 I'm pretty sure the G3 used by the mexican army have these green handguards.
@@Angelfox51 My guess would be that they got the color wrong because many of the common G3A* variants has that exact color they used and didn't consider the possibility that the G3SG1 variant only came with a different color.
Hoping Jonathan will react to the guns of Killzone one day, particularly 2 (and/or possibly 3). The Killzone series tends to be relatively grounded so far as its designs go, and I think he'd find their weapons interesting to analyze!
Aside from far too many Helghast weapons in Killzone 1 (the one for the PS2) having far too many instances of helical "magazines" (when in reality that means that they share more in common with the ammunition feed "drum" for something like the GAU-8 on the A-10 Warthog, or another US aircraft's gatling cannon linkless double-ended ammunition feed system), yeah I'd love to see that game series covered!
I had honestly forgotten it even existed, it's been that long.
Onward, a vr game, had a large variety of interesting guns, including several I had never heard of before. Could be a good game to take a look at.
What guns have you not heard of in onward
I'd love to see his take on the parts of the cod black ops series. Bo2 had a mix of real and fictional gins set in the near future which was a cool setting
I would still love to see an examination of the weapons in N64 Perfect Dark. Its a nice mix of realism and sci-fi, with many of the guns being future models of real weapons... and then some just not making sense at all. And then of course... alien guns.
Yes! Or maybe look at the remake on Xbox. Laptop gun and cyclone would break him
@@lMrJackl 🤣 yeah the cyclone is hard to wrap your mind around. Where is all that ammo stored?
But not the prequel.
CSS Deagle is for me my most favorite version of a deagle in any game. It felt so good to use in game. Where as other games treat it as a massive cannon.
When Jonathan said that the MP7 should eject 5.7 I had to question my whole existence.
The green furniture G3 looks a lot like they took inspiration from the Norwegian AG3, though the AG3 has a shorter stock and the green is darker. I have never shot a gun which jammed as much as the AG3s I've used, but at least they worked well as hammers to hammer the tent plugs into the ground
The AG3s you used were probably several decades old by the time you entered military service, and had been constantly abused by an unending stream of conscripts who couldn't care less, using them to hammer in tent plugs just like you. They would have been perfectly good G3s if kept well.
I suspect the HK416s that replaced them won't suffer as much, since compulsory service is essentially a thing of the past so today's soldiers are more motivated and care more.
Hmm. Perhaps those two facts about the AG3 are related? Firearms generally don't react well to being used as hammers.
Then again, that's soldiers for you.
US "grunts" treat equipment about the same. And now apparently they're all getting fancy computerized gun optics for the new rifles.
We'll see how well that plays out. At least when they break the electronics they still work as a 1-6X variable scope, and our grunts were already highly lethal with the ACOG (so much so that the terrorists complained about it due to the number of head-shots they kept finding among their casualties, turns out "every marine a marksman" is true when you give them marksman grade optics)
17:09 finally my time has come to correct a Gun expert on UA-cam. The mp7 shoots 4.6 mm not 5.7 mm. I will screenshot this one.
just came to say this
He misspoke. He noticed that the bullet casings coming out of the MP7 look more like standard pistol cartridges. Maybe they could have simply reused the bullet casing animation from the P90 for the MP7
@@User_Brandon I know just give me this moment
I know it's not in the public mainstream anymore, but it'd be kinda cool to see Jonathan react to some weapons from Advanced Warfare. Many, if not all the weapons had some interesting quirks to them, like getting more accurate as they shoot, laser beams, etc. And it's got a lot of original designs as well as irl guns.
had an Ad before this and it was literally "This is Fremantle" on repeat... so when the video started straight after and the first words was "This is Jonathan Ferguson" i cracked up laughing because of how perfect it fitted with the ad.
John once playing CS 1.6 did not even suspect that he would ever be able to hold a weapon from counter strike)))
Love the series, would be amazing to see Jonathan analyze the quirky weapons from Perfect Dark for the N64
The first galil shown is actually a variant in 7.62x51, you can tell easily by the magazine curvature and “waffle” texture.
fun fact about the "flipping" issue of the old counterstrike versions, all the weapons that were indeed flipped were intended to be played in a left hand configuration which was available in CS1.6, also the animation modelling was done following the body queues of a left handed shooter
Still petitioning for Jonathan to look at the civil war history channel games. I bet he'd love those guns
18:30 hate to be nit picky but the G3 sg1 does have a space underneath the Claw mount to use the Iron sights instead of the Scope. Granted with the raised cheek rest it’s very hard to use but not impossible. I know this because I own one (original HK NOT Century Arms).
It would have been nice to actually hear the MP5SD.
Man I love this guy so much, absolutely carries this channel so if he ever stops here I hope he continues somewhere else!
This series is awesome, love Jonathan and his work!
This was awesome to watch :-) He's got good description of weapons :-)
I'd love to see Receiver 2 on here given the focus on handguns
2:44
I believe he meant a Ruger Blackhawk, as the redhawk is Double action and would suffer the same safety issues as the revolver in counterstrike. Whereas the blackhawk is single action only.
I get the two mixed up all the time. I only started to remember after purchasing a Ruger Super Blackhawk from a friend. Badass revolver capable of shooting the very strongest of .44 Magnum handloads.
Oh my god... that sound at 4:24 is so good to hear.. i love the sound guns make
I have fired the Mini Galil (SAR) in full auto, it's much slower than the M4/16. Around 600 RPM if I had to guess.
loved how you kept switching from classic cs to csgo to compare, great stuff

Very epic
14:24 how nice that, in the background, we can hear somebody perform a Desert Eagle slide release for demonstration purposes
19:21 the handguard seems like modeled after the Knight's Armament (KAC) FFRAS quad rail handguard.
get Jonathan to check out VR with games like Pavlov. I feel like it would enable Jonathan to go into way more detail about the guns he is holding.
Most of the guns in Pavlov are pretty inaccurate. There’s a ton that have very inaccurate sizes.
One note on the original CS Galil: that version was modelled on the ARM (Assault Rifle, Machine) variant, and it is written as so in the buy menu if you have the non-retail version of CS 1.6 installed. However, the weird thing is that, it has the ammo capacity of the 5.56 version, 35 rounds, but rather than having a long curved magazine as per that variant, it acted and modelled after the 25-round, 7.62 NATO straight magazine variant (mostly because of game mechanics as the weapon shares the same 7.62 ammo pool as the AK. Then again as with many shooting games, the AK uses the 7.62 NATO as with other 7.62 rifles).
"MAGNUM RESEARGH, INC., MINNEAPOLIS, MINN." is legally distinct from "Magnum Research Inc." because it's spelled with a "G" in it.
Wonder if we'll get Christian Wellard on this series too? I know he was a temporary host while Jonathan was on vacation, but I wouldn't mind him appearing on here.
I’m still gonna say that Timeshift would be an interesting game that would probably interest John. Lots of interesting weapons to choose from
if i remember correctly, the norwegian version of the g3, AG3, used green coloring
There is a quite nice picatinny rail for the old SG500 series, it can be mounted between the rear sight and the V-shaped dovetail thingy further forward on the receiver.
Would be cool to see Jonathan reacting to a comparison of the old CS:GO sounds to the new ones.
It would be perfect for Jonathan to react to Black Mesa (Half-Life remake by the community) weapon's, since he remembers Half-Life.
Great video Johnathan!
I really like how the expert recognizes the limitations of games
I always thought the "Clarion" looked too long and skinny in CS:Source, like the model was stretched out.
I guess a lot of old video games looked like that. Goldeneye, the AK47 and M16 looked like it was 4 feet long and the entire barrel was within the shroud/furniture. And the grenade launcher looked like it was just massive.
The USP Match in Half Life 2 looks too long too.
I really hope he reviews the guns in Cry of Fear to see how advanced guns could be in a 20 year old engine but that's probably not going to happen.
It's not the engine, just modellers at that time not really being as experienced.
@@AyCe it is somewhat also about the engine tho
The original Goldsrc can't handle high poly models very well and textures can't go be anything higher than a 512x512 8-bit BMPs
CoF uses a modified version of the engine that expanded its capabilities beyond these limits. Also have to factor in better more capable hardware and far superior modelling software and techniques. Things simply not available to essentially a modder back in '99
@@CS_Uravity_PRO yeah but still the modders at that time had the source engine but instead choose this one, probably beacuse they knew it better and even though it's a modified Goldsrc, I would say it's pretty impresive for some college students and the guns were pretty good and there were quite a bunch of them also for Jonathan to review.
@@CS_Uravity_PRO the only hacky modification the game has is projected realtime lights and I think particles, made possible by injecting renderer hack, hence why developers did not recommend playing hl and cs16 with mod installed. Everything else is constrained to GoldSrc limitations. You can still load CoF models and maps in Half-Life.
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this but I will go with what I think are two mistakes:
1. The MP5SD do not make a round subsonic. It's the ammo selected that does.
2. The MP7 uses 4.6 x 30mm and not 5.7 x 28mm as mentioned.
Sorry for repeating if this has been mentioned 😅.
CS:GO's Galil AR looks like it took inspiration from the M4 or the AR-15 platform. I'm surprised he didn't see the spelling error on the CS:GO deagle where it says "RESEARGH" not "RESEARCH".
I really like how they depicted the revolver
The single action fanning is inaccurate but quick
The double action is more accurate but the trigger pull takes a long time
Let's let our boy Jonathan break his brain on the Guns on Warframe!
The funny thing about CSGO M4A1-S and M4A4 is that neither of these are actual M4. The M4A1-S is a Colt CAR-15 and the M4A4 is the MK-18 Mod 0.
congratulations on 5m subs!
I wanna see him review Killing Floor 2’s guns. It’s got a pretty good variety of guns, and they’re pretty well modeled as well.

17:45 if I were to hazard a guess I would assume FS means “fallschirm”, as some G3s were used by paratroopers. Although they would be denoted K
Hello, it's me again, asking for Jonathan to be exposed to Killing Floor 2's arsenal of wacky and realistic guns.
CS is sacred to gamers. Chill out bruh.
I really enjoy these videos, especially the Counter-Strike ones, but I would've liked to see a comparison between the M4A4 and the nearest IRL equivalent to it.
There is a funny reason why the logos for example on the Desert Eagle are mirrored on the other side in the game you can swap your characters shooting arms from right to left but the game just mirrors the players arms to the other side as well
From what I've heard, Global Offensive's revolver is special in the sense that its primary fire has you preparing and firing as different stages instead of being a single action like in most games, which in a way, makes it closer to real life revolvers.
It would've been cool to hear Jonathan's feedback on it, but I think they only showed him the secondary fire.
I'd like to see Jonathon take a look at Counter Strike 2's guns to see if they've improved in the realism department at all.
Great video as always. The only issue is the mp7 doesn't shoot a 5.7 cartridge. It's 4.6
13:53 Interesting about the Magpull! Today I learned something new. I do competitive shooting in Sweden, which is primarily .22LR for my disciplines, and a very popular pistol was the Unique DES69 and its versions. Those had really soft slide releases, which would wear down and eventually, the slide lock wouldn't work on an empty mag. And as .22LR shouldn't be clicked (because the firing pin would hit the barrel due to rimfire ammunition), you were always told to leave that switch alone and just pull the slide when inserting a new magazine as a best-practice behaviour. I always just accepted that as a norm.
I would love to see Jonathan's reaction to Ahoy's appraisal of various firearms from his "Iconic Arms" series here on UA-cam.
bro whoever is getting the Counter Strike gameplay needs to record for Jonathan more often cuz they are low-key goated
They're playing against AI.
JF, so you were a 'pre-Go' Counterstrike player. Me too, and I also played post-Go. Pre-Go were my glory days, though. Side arm was always that hand-cannon, the Desert Eagle.
Difficult to say for sure if they tried to go for a funky look of different SOPMOD/Block parts bin-build, but it's true that the right side selector is not textured (or even modelled if I remember correctly)
Idk if you guys done it yet but maybe 007 Nightfire or MGS 2/3. If not let's gooo. And the 552 commando is like my dream gun.
For 18:05, when I was at my mandatory military service, they embezzled us with G3 without a scope, almost all of them were forest green.
On the left at 0:52 looks like some mythical SG550 Bullpup with the gun in the back LOL.
Ah, the good old days of CS, I was also pre 1.6, I loved the "3-3" which we just called "the lunchbox" aka the P90. :P
on the deagle it says "Magnum researgh" instead of "magnum research" to avoid copyright
4:27 You know we all loved that
Jonathan looking at a Desert Eagle for the 6954th time: “yup. It’s a desert eagle.”
The 5.7 I really like the usg version with a nice muzzle break Sam Fisher style!
Actually lol'd at that spray tag
correction: at 17:08 you say that the MP7 fires 5.7mm cartridges, when it actually fires 4.6mm cartridges. The 4.6 and 5.7 were competing cartridges and the MP7 is essentially HK's response to the FN P90, which does fire 5.7mm.
IMO I'd have loved to see what a pistol in 4.6mm would have ended up looking like. But none ever seem to have come out.
That and the fact that getting that ammo on the civillian market (just normal ball ammo, not the AP it was designed to shoot) would probably be problematic and expensive.
But oh boy that magazine capacity. Probably at least 25 rounds in a double-stack magazine?
