I absolutely love the fact that he pulls out the real gun representation after almost every weapon in this video. I would love it if you guys did this for the rest of your videos as well. Seeing you hold the real life representation of the firearm in the game really makes the video better in my opinion.
Until he mentioned it I never thought about the reason for the speed change when you take the knife out was because of a weight change I always just figured that it would be more so along the lines of it being more clunky while holding a rifle/LMG/SMG due to it restricting your arm movement which would reduce your ability to run normally because as much as we don't really think about it how you move your arms does greatly affect your speed while running. Try running with your arms crossed and just see how much more awkward it feels. That being said I do think that it is really all just in the name of game mechanics because realistically there is no way you run the same speed with a AUG as a MP7 IRL.
A note about the P90. It came in different versions throughout the years of production. You can see in the earlier games that it was indeed depicted with the built in sights. The version used in Global Offensive is the more modern version with Magpul style iron sights and a Picatinny rail attached to the top. This variant of the P90 was first seen in Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare. This particular version is called P90 TR (TR stands for "Triple Rail")
If I was animating M4 reloads for a shooter, I would have several separate animations, each using a different part of the weapon but never the actual charging handle to chamber a round
It's kind of mad how many games actually get the AR-15 pattern rifles reload animations so, very, very wrong. They're hardly a rare weapon and I imagine a lot of the developers making these games will even have one at home or know someone who does if they live in the US lol.
@@jharju2352 true, but the way (some of them) are designed using those real world guns as a basis is a very interesting bit of retrofuturism. The Allied assault rifle in Wolfenstein is shockingly bad, tho, thank goodness its barely in the game!

The first thing that flashed in to my head when seeing that this series was covering counterstrike was the way the M4 animation includes pulling the forward assist.
@@aidan-mx2fy You should really think again about your second statement. Counter Terrorism units do actually use attachments quite often. IR lasers are incredibly popular among the units, same with foregrips and also various kinds of sights and flashlights.
What surprises me more than his knowledge of firearms is his surprisingly good knowledge of videogames. And he just spots every detail that there is, the fact that some of the 1.6 weapons are rounded off is a great example.
Now that I've seen the forward assist being pulled back 6 inches and let go to chamber a round on the AR-15, I can't unsee it. How did they screw that up? 😂
Left-handed people and their goofy brains.😏 That said, I actually like the "flapping dust cover" because it gives the firing a bit more "visceral" look than if it were static.
Actually In Vietnam, the Army recommend use right hand to shot because it will avoid being hit by bullet shell pop out to your eye when shot right hand and reduce unsafe move when carry, reload and shot. Some of use cant fire right hand for manu reason (eye, left hand is more handy than right one, ect...). But somehow for us, use left hand is better because you can reload and ready for action better than use right hand like most people and it make u more cooler :)) I am sure that is how Minh Le "Goose" want
i have Minh's TM MP5 airsoft gun from back in the day like 20 years ago when we played airsoft in the same club. My friend Dirk bought it from him, then I bought it off Dirk because it's a piece of history as far as im concerned. I dont even play airsoft any more. Last I heard Minh works in Seattle for Valve and still has family in Vancouver and I still have him on Facebook so I should really get the Mp5 signed at some point lol. I was 16 when I met him when he was 25 or so, playing at Panther paintball in the airsoft club called OpFor and BCAC. Hope he's doing well, he's a good guy. Minh did all the coding, it was his baby that he worked on while going to college at SFU. His game. Cliffe is the guy who made the sprites and animations, and many of the maps. @@pauliusthemad3498 That is very stereotypical and untrue, that applies more to US copies of Russian guns than actual Russian guns funnily enough And yes it's a feature out of simplicity, the dust cover opens not only when a shell is ejected but also during the chambering process, the actuation is carried out by a stud on the piston, so it lifts the cover even when not necessary

While the weight of the gun stays when the player switches to knife, the centre of gravity is more stable(lower and closer to the medial axis) when the gun is strapped closer to the body, making running easier.
Honestly would love to see him cover Metal Gear guns. He'd probably be satisfied with how much detail Kojima puts into the weapons and trigger discipline in cutscenes.

I gotta say, the fact the we actually see what the character is doing in the dual-wield reload animation is a very nice touch. Games like COD and Halo would just hide the guns away while you reload so they don't have to figure out how it would be done 😂
Valve doesn't even care about firearms detail at all since the beginning: Half Life has Glock that doesn't sound like Glock, and underbarrel GL equipped oversized MP5 Half Life 2 has an SMG that fires grenade larger than the barrel itself. Counter Strike has mirrored ejection port Left 4 Dead has (typo edit) 50-rounds-clip full auto M16 without modification visible and 15 rounds M1911 again without modification Left 4 Dead 2 has burst fire SCAR (as far as i know SCAR has no burst fire variant) and weapons that sounds unpleasant, seriously the AK sounds were unpleasant, instead of sounding like actual guns or common action movie and game guns. CSGO has weapons with safety on in the model yet can still fire, and also many weapons that sounds like airsoft.

9:00 i always assumed the increased movement speed wasn’t due to weight loss, but was more ease of use. It’s easier to run with something heavy strapped to your back than it is in your arms, so lighter/smaller guns let you run better.
Straps aren't for carrying guns on your back. You would run way slower if you had a heavy lmg swinging around behind you or in front of you. Better to hold it and keep it steady than have it unbalance you

13:17 when he says they updated the animation for the M4A1 it was for counter strike condition zero (cs:cz)
Can we get on the guns in Crysis, Killing Floor, or Wolfenstein the new colossus/new order
The newer Wolfenstein games have mostly fictional weapon designs based on some WW2-era firearms such as the Stg-44, P-08 and the Thompson SMG.
@@jharju2352 true, but the way (some of them) are designed using those real world guns as a basis is a very interesting bit of retrofuturism.
The Allied assault rifle in Wolfenstein is shockingly bad, tho, thank goodness its barely in the game!

Some of use cant fire right hand for manu reason (eye, left hand is more handy than right one, ect...). Is that really a feature and not just you know....fact russian guns are assembled rather baddly and lose in many parts?
@@pauliusthemad3498
That is very stereotypical and untrue, that applies more to US copies of Russian guns than actual Russian guns funnily enough
And yes it's a feature out of simplicity, the dust cover opens not only when a shell is ejected but also during the chambering process, the actuation is carried out by a stud on the piston, so it lifts the cover even when not necessary

Left 4 Dead 2 has burst fire SCAR (as far as i know SCAR has no burst fire variant) and weapons that sounds unpleasant, seriously the AK sounds were unpleasant, instead of sounding like actual guns or common action movie and game guns.

9:00 i always assumed the increased movement speed wasn’t due to weight loss, but was more ease of use. It’s easier to run with something heavy strapped to your back than it is in your arms, so lighter/smaller guns let you run better.
Let's go with that :)
Absolutely correct, i described it in my comment: we physically can't run at maximum speed with occupied hands.
Straps aren't for carrying guns on your back. You would run way slower if you had a heavy lmg swinging around behind you or in front of you. Better to hold it and keep it steady than have it unbalance you
