This is one of my favorite tutorials because it came out at a time when my grandsons had just moved to California and were taking surfing lessons. They LOVED their bags that I made for them.
Rob , you definitely are Da Man ! Love the sense of humor in your videos. Going to try this bag soon. It'll be Gator Blue and Orange. My husband is from Florida ! He Loves his college football. ThankYou for sharing your excitement for the craft of sewing.
I think this is my favorite video you have done so far. I love how you make the bag from something other then traditional fabric. I just may have to give this a try. Your quilt videos always make it look so easy and fast to make a quilt. I am still so terrified I will mess it up so I haven't even tried to make a quilt yet. However, you videos that are not quilts are my favorites because those are less terrifying to me. lol Thanks for all you do.
I love the closure! I like to put a place to hook my keys inside the bag. That way if they hall off the land in the bag and not in the sand :) Love your bag and I'll have to make one soon
Hey Rob, your tutorials are so helpful I can't wait to try one out! I wondered if you might ever do a picnic blanket maybe even one of those folding water resistant ones with the buckle and straps ;)
I loved this project the moment I first saw it. I now have completed my first bag. Following your tutorial was easy. Now, since I am going to be gifting this to my grand daughter for her birthday, I would like to personalize it for her... like her name. Do you have any suggestions as to how I would accomplish that? BTW I love your energy and the sound effects throughout the tutorial!
MySammy336 did you use the mesh pet screen? You could easily embroider her name onto it using some floss and a large needle! (You'll see me do that with mesh in an upcoming tutorial!!)
Man Sewing Thanks for the reply! I did use the mesh and it looks great. This is one time that I wish I had an embroidery sewing machine... But I do like your suggestion. If it comes out looking good, I will send you a picture. Thanks again
what size needle did you use? and if you are using a combination of fabric and pet mesh, what type of thread...still polyester? I want to make a pet carrier out of my tote bag, but will use pet mesh and canvas probably.
Rob a couple questions. Would it be easier to do a zigzag on the bag and also why not sew the gusset together before you start adding it to the sides and bottom. Just a thought. Now for your opinion.
Hey Tammy! You can certainly zig-zag stitch the bag, and sew the the gusset together before you add it. There are usually a few different ways a project can be accomplished, and it just depends on the creator. Have fun sewing!
this would make a very good grocery bag it would stand up in the boot (trunk) of the car you could put it in the trolley do the shopping pack the grocery's in the bag then from trolley to car.
ktb38 you really aren't sewing through it that much, as the needle mostly goes through the holes in the mesh! It's really easy to sew through it, so you don't need anything special for it!
