Great project idea!!! Great gift idea too! I have made lots of things out of canvas: back packs, hand bags, shopping totes, hammocks, laundry bags, but my first project was a seat cover for my husbands truck- 15 years ago. It was a super heavy weight (I knocked my sewing machine out of timing trying to sew it), well, the cover outlasted the truck- I altered it for his next truck and it lives on! (I now use an old antique singer to sew my thick fabrics , that machine will see anything)😉👍🏼 I love your tutorials- you are a great teacher!
Love love love ya for this camping with little 5 & 6 years girls and you say collect firewood you get teeny tiny little piles I mean little I believe this will they will go faster knowing the bags has got to be filled thank you
This is a great idea! I'll have to make one for my husband. The first thing I ever made with canvas was about 35 years ago. I'm a retired master stenciler and I made a stenciled floor cloth. I used it for many years, but then it got lost in my last move. It held up extremely well. The only sewing on it was the edges which were turned under and sewed down.
I love duck canvas! I've made several bags from it. Now it's my favorite for vinyl and/or leather bag linings. Holds up SO well. Ordered waterproof canvas online, can't wait to try it.
I'm not sure I've sewn with canvas but I'm going to now :-) Great tutorial for a very useful carrier. I have sewn shopping bags from left over cotton duck curtain material so this will be another fun project. Anything to be sewing! Rob, have wonderful holidays with your family. Loris, from Cambria
Love the wood hauler! I bought a home with angled, west-facing clerestory windows (think mountain chalet). They needed blinds in the summer to keep heat at bay. Canvas was an obvious choice. Heavy stuff, sizing doesn't come out well in a front-load washer. Never did fully remove the wrinkles. My calculations were good but not perfect, so I call them "a really good prototype". They are functional, I hang them every summer. If I'm feeling ambitious some other year, I'll try again. I'm considering ticking, might be a little lighter but just as effective. If I can find it...I live in a remote Canadian forest so wish me luck!
First time canvas sewing was a carrying/storage pouch with Velcro closure for the extra long double prong hotdog/marshmallow roasting sticks! Works great because the sticks have hangers on the handle so when the wide pronged ends are put in first the Velcro secures the skinny handles while sealing the opening. That way the pouch can be hung up while the weight of the skewers on the canvas is lessened at the bottom of the pouch! What size needle are you using? Nice tutorial 👍
FMQ question, can you do a tutorial on frequent starting and stopping as part of the design? I would like to see what you recommend if someone wanted to use different colors in their quilting as part of the design, or maybe they want a particular motif to be isolated and not connected to anything else, can you use frequent starting and stopping for that, could you please demonstrate that. Also what can we do if we just don’t have an extension table?
I’m unable to locate the free printable pattern. The link does not work that is posted here. Could you please help providing a link to the pattern? I bought all the supplies-came home-and no pattern….Thanks in advance!

First things I made from canvas was covers for propane tanks and portable heater. Years now and still using them.

My first ever project was a bag for a camping fry pan and it holds pie pans for plates a little rough but fully functional . Still have it .
1st canvas project was reupholstery chairs, last project music bag to fit flute and music binder, next bag to hold project bins for quilt retreats
Thank you, Rob! LOVE this tutorial!! Will be making one as a Christmas gift - this will make such an awesome present!
This is a great and timely project. TFS!!!
Wonderful tutorial! Now I can make a new carrier for my husband 😊
By the way, did you change your thread and needle size?

Making this! Going to embroider name on it. Thanks!!
your pattern is no longer available?
You can also carry other things. I use something similar to carry my vintage Singer hand crank sewing machine.

I wanted to print the measurement page but apparently it's no longer available at MSQC? Nothing is pulling up.
What tool is it that Rob uses to mark the line for positioning the handles?
Chalk pencil ?
Oh, the pattern isn't there any more! Can someone give me some measurements maybe? Thanks!
What are the final overall measurements?
