Ive been on iPhone for years (2009-2013), then gave Android a shot (2013-2014) and then spent a couple of years on Windows Phone (2014-2016).
So I know all three platforms verywell and Windows Phone remains my OS of choice.
But now in 2017 Im rock'n a galaxy s7, because of you know, apps. And I have to say Android has really improved over the years. Combine that with the app support and it's obvious that no one, even a self proclaimed WP fanboy like me, could justify going back to Windows Phone in its current state.
I would love to use a Windows Phone it's just more of a hassle than its worth these days and that's all because if the apps, sadly enough!
also Microsoft announced back in october that windows 10 mobile is pretty much dead now. actually a shame really it had great potential if they just got the apps right

No matter how good the hardware is, it is the software that mostly defines the user experience. I have a Lumia 930 for more than 2 years now, and I can say it sucks to experience hangs and crashes often. Windows 10 Mobile is close to dead. Microsoft is updating its apps on android and iOS, but not on their own platform. App developers withdrawing one by one from the windows platform makes it worse.
The 930 is an old device. Crashes and hangs are eminent. A simple upgrade to the 950 and all those problems are gone. Although you shouldn't do that unless you really like windows 10 on a phone. But other than that stay away really.
John Pollanen I wouldn't want to upgrade to a Lumia 950, it's just not worth it. It's more about the OS optimization imo. I still have the iPhone 5 (first batch and I'm using it right now), 4-5 years old already and only experience app crashes 1-2 times every 2 months, has not hang on me when I'm using it at all (yet). I can say my 4-5 year iPhone opens apps faster than my Lumia 930, which is very disappointing. It's not the hardware that's lagging it down, it's the software itself that's the problem. If Apple can still optimize iPhone 5 up till iOS 10.3 even though iPhone 5 has some difficulties catching up with the software, Microsoft can definitely optimize their software onto available devices better as well. And the sad thing is Microsoft decided to "kill" older devices like L930 quickly by denying them to upgrade to the creators update and beyond. They should have waited longer before killing older devices.
Man Hound I agree that the iPhone is a great performer over Android and Windows Phone /10 mobile. But I can say that the hardware does matter, at least the windows on phone side in terms of performance. I had an Lumia 640 XL and upgraded to the 950 XL at my own risk, and I experienced a not big yet significant improvement in terms of performance, I was able to keep more apps in the background, loading and resuming screens were alot more rare to come across and apps were a bit faster to open. Although not many people are interested in upgrading just for a small jump in performance. Overall there is problems in both hardware and software.
I laid my Lumia 930 to rest last December because I was fed up of the fucking half baked apps, the apps that didn't fucking work and the absence of apps. I couldn't use the "backspace" or the "send" button in the outlook app. Wtf is the point of having a smartphone that can't do basic shit properly? I've used windows phone for 3 years hoping that it would get better but I feel like Microsoft has been taking the piss at its most loyal customers for all this time.

I mainly just talk, text, and check emails. Don't really use any mainstream apps, and don't want to spend over $600-$700 on a phone that has so many features/apps that I won't be using.

I had the HTC One M8 Windows edition and I liked all of the standard smartphone features.What killed it for me was the app support was all but dead. The one thing I actually miss was Cortana reading and letting me respond via voice to my texts while in my car. It was much more natural than my car's built in text reading functionality and actually let me respond to text messages.
Lumia 950 here. Being a big One Note/Outlook/Edge/Surface Pen user as well as Office 365, l love my Lumia 950. Newer hangs up on me, the camera is EXCELLENT for pictures and super for capturing documents.

I've never tried windows phone since I've used Samsung since Omnia HD (which was the year before Android came out), but windows phone seems to apply the pressure needed for Samsung to make its desktop mobile experience as good as it can be. for competition sake, I hope windows and iOS stay around so my Android can be as good as it can be!

It really sucks that they didn't get any major app support, they are very capable devices and the UI is pretty nice. I was an early adopter of the WP7 platform with the HTC Surround being my first choice, then I snagged the Lumia 920. The lack of app support however was a killer, and the main reason why I dumped it for Android with the Note 4 and now an S8+.
I love my windows phone but it feels really limited, I mean so limited there's no Snapchat. Im waiting for my new android vernee mars pro to arrive.

Looking at my Windows phone today, all the apps (apart from photos which for some reason had its update removed) are still just as featured as the pc. A product I'd like to see is a iPOD like device for Windows phone, the os is easy to use and it has a 3.5mm headphone jack, also groove still supports music files, it's just the store bit that's shut down

I personally lived without a smartphone for years and only got one when my College told me it'd be necessary if computers weren't available. I do everything via my browser and after having tried multiple Android phones (I have a HTC Desire 530 as well, which I never use) I would rather live without a smartphone myself than be stuck in a world of no competition (or be stuck on Android with no personal choice). Android being the only OS option unless one can afford Apple will not end well, competition is important no matter what. Android is already terrible for unifying updates and is notorious for security holes, no competition would mean no motivation to fix issues. Where would people go?
