Matthew Walsh Yeah, that's true. But still even for music 2GB won't get you very far. I have an 8GB iPod nano from the late 2000's and I filled that up pretty quick. Besides these days you can get a SanDisk MP3 player for about $30 on Amazon, that has 8GB of built in storage, a screen, better battery life than the shuffle, and it has a micro SD card slot for expandable storage. iPods are great if you want a dedicated music player. Something small portable for running, in the gym, on the go, etc. I have a iPod nano 7th gen and I would get the latest iPod touch if mine ever stopped working.
Phil Thomas pretty sure that's because of the metal bars that are needed on any device that's going to connect to cellular. It's like an antenna that strengthens the bandwidth you receive. Since iPod touches are purely wifi based, there's no need for that, so there's a sleeker design. (At least I think that's why... lol)
I'm not talking about the ipod 5 & 6, we're talking about the design comparison between the ipod and iphone, which are pretty different. and yes, I'm sure it does have something to do with the antennas but they don't take up that much room, and I don't see why the couldn't implement it witht he same design. It would just be painted the same color as the rest of the metal design and you wouldn't even know it was there.
Jonathan Phillips I don't really like big phones, so I hardly notice my phone's weight in my pocket. I think I misread the original comment, i didn't realize he had said a shuffle. Makes total sense if you wanna be weightless. A smartwatch could be another option as well. They have ones for under $20 that can play music.
Victor NGaF I'm bringing classic back (yeah) You muthufukus won't know how to act (yeah) A metal frame wrapped around the glass (yeah) You know the name labeled on the back (yeah)
Yeah. I thought I was the only one who seemed to consider this. This is pretty much the only time I ever listen to music when I'm out and about so it seems odd to me that it's considered such an old school idea.
The shuffle is secretly an amazing product. One of the cheapest things apple sells and amazing for if you're exercising and don't want to bring your phone or fall off your bike when you're looking for the right album.
I don’t think the iPod Touch should die because a lot of kids use them to text their friends if they don’t need data yet. They can also FaceTime their parents if they have WiFi.
I think Ipod touch 7 is coming out in 2018. My reasons? It will have been 3 years. The Ipod touch 6 came out 3 years after the touch 5 in 2012. Also, Ipod touch 6 got a price reduction in June or July. The Ipod touch 5 also got a price cut before a new model came out. This makes me believe they are clearing inventory for a newer model. Also, last time I heard, they are still generating over a billion dollars in revenue from it, so it may still be worth it for them.
Oh yeah, and apparently there was some kind of leak in some meta data or something, suggesting that there will be another generation of Ipod. Search for it on youtube.
Obi Alfred Only pros like me. Dumb people stays where they are. iPod Touch and Nano are the best in mp3 than any iPhone devices. And they put A10 chip. Do you have internet?
Yea the shuffle can actually make a lot of sense today. If it had a bigger storage size, it could have been a great mp3. Also if it was a lot cheaper considering it's just an mp3 player
Well I use my iPod almost everyday because it's way better to have a whole device just dedicated to listening to music, even if it's an iPod touch. It saves space on your phone and if you prefer android and have an Android phone, you'll be able to experience android and iOS together
+Noah R-And personally, I would rather have an MP3 player that only serves to play music, and nothing else, sometimes you just want a device that can largely, only play music instead of cluttering it between a phone, apps, and everything else people stuff in now, in a way, MP3 players are like a newer version of a personal, portable radio, and it should stay that way. The only real problem I have with MP3 players on the whole is that they are a dime a dozen and it's very hard to figure out what kind of quality you are going to get from each MP3 player without buying it and trying it out yourself. Otherwise, the Apple MP3s have a remarkable longevity, especially the now beloved IPOD Classic, the sound, for the most part on them, remains very good, even with more expensive "higher-resolution" MP3 players and overall, they were built with quality in mind and they last a long time, arguably more than the newer MP3 players.
I agree. I had still been using my ipod classic that I bought back in 2010 but it recently started fucking up on me so I went ahead and ordered a used 5th gen ipod classic. I just need a device that is strictly for music alone
Pokemon Masters sucks cuz ive always had iphones but still liked using ipods specially if i was playing sports or riding bikes but now they are basically obsolete lol
I still use my iPod shuffle in 2022, it’s the best device to just go for a run and disconnect from the madness of notifications, social media, and excess of information and over connectivity. I would totally start going back to simpler devices and simpler, richer life where technology is a tool and not what controls our lives.
I watched this video on my iPod 6. I'm 16 and I can't afford to pay for a monthly phone plan, so I just use my iPod, it is basically the same exact thing as a phone except You need wifi to call or message people (wifi is pretty much everywhere these days anyways).
Hello_Hunter I'm 17 and I do the same. People don't realize that some kids don't / aren't able to get help from their parents to pay for things like a phone bill.
Mecha RBLX as a adult in these comments maybe one day when you grow up and pay for your own stuff you'll realize there's nothing wrong with what these kids are doing if that's what they want to do
Mine was an AT&T GOPhone Motorola C139, calls where $.25 a minute, TXT where $.10 each(sending & receiving), and it only had the built in polyphonic ringtones, but the battery life was was awesome at almost 5 days on standby.
I honestly hate streaming music. I understand the convenience of it, but I own so many cds. So why would I ever pay extra for a streaming service? I would rather just buy the new albums that come out and then transfer them from iTunes to my iPhone.
No, mee too.. Still don't know what Spotify is, or even tried Apple Music. I still believe in ownership. Everything I download I use it with other products, except movies bought on Apple. and BTW, your idea about the "new" iPod Classic sounds terrific... Haven't you seen those new Sony mp3 players that are all screen?? the're spectacular.
I am a sound engineer and use my iPod at every concert for fill music. The iPod plugs into a Denon professional CD player that has a pop out dock for iPhone/iPod and it even charges the battery while in use and the front panel controls on the CD player control the Ipod (play, pause,FF,RW } this frees up my phone and i don't have "all my eggs in one basket" I love my iPod and i can even text, email, FaceTime and take pictures. i am puzzled by your negative view on the iPod
I actually still like my 80 GB iPod Classic I got for my birthday in 2007. Changed the battery a couple years ago and it's still running. It was the one thing they did better than Microsoft. Still works great for storing podcasts and lots of music so you don't need to rely on streaming over LTE. When I was on vacation a couple months ago driving around Lake Michigan, the cell service was really hit or miss.
cardsfanbj yes, the older iPod where made way better than the ones today! They get cheaper and cheaper and last less and less with every new iPod touch that I have bought! So sad. Classic isn’t always bad, it’s a classic for a reason!
I feel you miss the point of an mp3 player, for me. Which is to be able to play music in the absence of internet and change song from within my pocket. And last more than a couple of days without charging. And not have to buy an armband holder to do anything active while listening. So I'd say the opposite. The big touchscreen ipod is useless for those with a smartphone, but the ipod nano has a much better (70h?) battery life and is nice and small and light, and the shuffle has physical buttons for on the go track changing and can clip on for when running. I will never get a purely touchscreen music device as I'd be giving up the pocket based changing of tracks. And for what? Additional features my phone already has. Unless I got headphones with a track changer on it, but again, my phone lasts a day or two. My mp3 player lasts a couple of weeks.
***** I can do so much more on my android phone than an iPhone user and it costs a fraction of the price... I really don't see what beats that. And saying 'it's much more simple' is a nicer way of saying that it lacks features.
rush b You can't say they're the best at everything without convincing sources, otherwise it's purely objective. Imo they're terribly overpriced especially in their computers
"When was the last time you used an iPod?" Me: Err. I don't know, about 12 hours ago? I still have an iPod 4 which has about 1,000+ songs on it, from iTunes, which I also still use today.
Well, the iPod nano for $150 is severely overpriced. I can easily get a full Android phone for $100 that has access to any music streaming app, plus more. The iPod nano is a relic of a bygone era, and there's no point in selling it any longer.
Zune is a ancient civilization that got wiped out by the iAppleEmpire. xD jk it's a Microsoft's (iPod touch wannabe) Music player with AMOLED touch screen...Sadly it was running the "testing builds of windows mobile OS" so it didn't have any apps which destroyed its place to the iPod touch
Dedicated mp3 players have many advantages, including: better sound quality (most important) higher capacity (about as important) don't have to run down battery of your smart phone playing music.
smartphones have nowadays the actual size of a normal mp3 players or you can even use an Apple Watch or a smartwatch for that and you'll be ok without even bringing something with you as you'll be having the thing attached to your wrist. The quality is pretty much the same so there's really no point to get an iPod today in 2017. Really. It's an old technology by now.
I like to own my music end of story thank you, my collection kills spotify :) for me at least.....just like a calculator sometimes its nice to have the real thing, will I still play music on my? phone of course.
Well, yeah, but I still just prefer to have separate devices. That's the main reason I still have an iPod. Plus, the lack of headphone jack is just plain annoying.
+Dakota Dewberry Same. Most of my music just barely fit on a 320gb iPod Classic, and that was in 2011. I've bought so many more albums since then! I paid a fortune for a couple more of those 320gb Classics when they were discontinued, just because they're the only devices that come close to holding most of my music. In a pinch, I occasionally listen to some of my music through my iPhone via the Music app that came with it (using home network wifi, mostly), but it's annoying that it will only play stuff I purchased from iTunes, not any of the albums I imported from CDs over the years, which is about half of my music. It also won't show or play anything I purchased from Amazon and loaded into iTunes, either. But my iPods will.
I bought a shuffle. Downloaded several hundred songs. And gave it father so he could listen to music without having to worry about keeping track of Records, CD’s or cassettes. It made him very happy. Great reason to keep making them.
I last used an iPod classic last night coming home from work. I like the ability to plug it in my technics hifi and car without worrying about Bluetooth or draining my phone battery. Also 80 gigs of music leaves all that space on my phone free for all the transgender hentai I can download.
Eh, not too sure. My bosses usually text me or something since its more convenient and its nice to have a written record of a conversation. Now with iMessage or Google's Allo, most text messages aren't even sent through a carrier but over WiFi.
GamingStreams For only 60$CAN Descent build quality Good size for an MP3 player Have no connection to planned obsolescence(in my point of view) No slowdowns
Skyrat you are not the only one. I mean, I guess you could technically say I stream on UA-cam. If I listen to a song on my computer. But I use CDs and I listen to my iPod with the music that is downloaded onto it. I definitely hate Spotify.
@@libertymartin5167 have you tried Spotify yourself though? Why hate it? Their music discovery and playlist curation is so good I found so many artists and music I never could have earlier (both old and new). Also, quality is better than MP3, more dependant on headphones really these days. N u can save songs offline (all for few bucks a month instead paying same amount or more for a single album) No I'm not sponsored by them 😋
Am I the only one who caught a sneak peak at some of the music Austin listens to? I saw Cage the Elephant, Avril Lavigne, Evanescence, All-American Rejects, Dr Dre, and the Boxer Rebellion My guy you have some good taste
1. I have fuck tons of gb of high quality music I want to listen to on the go and I want my phone's data space saved for other purposes. 2. I listen to music all the time and I want to save my phone's battery for other purposes. 3. I don't stream music because I want to save my phone's Internet for other purposes. 4. As a musician, having a device solely for the purpose of playing music is convenient for playbacks at live gigs and practice. In conclusion, consumeristic casual music listeners like you might not see the purposes of iPods in 2017 but believe it or not they're still fuckin great and convenient for many people who take music a bit more seriously.
Absofuckinglutely My iPod classic still holds 160GB of perfectly ripped mp3s, plays extremely well through high-end IEMs, use Copy Trans so no issues with the admittedly sluggish iTunes, is sleek, has great simple UI, and at the $299 paid, over 7 years of reliable service works out cheaper than the so-called audiophile DAPs that people waste a grand on and get no better sound from. (They claim that they do, until challenged to blind test, when they get all evasive) I wish Apple would release a retro reissue, with 256GB or more, same simplicity, bigger battery and same price.. They could do it if they wanted, but sadly never will. So I'll diy fix mine when it finally dies, and make it last forever.
exactly the reasons why i was questioning his opinions. i had a 64gb ipod touch only for music and i still didn't have enough space. it's broken now so I'm getting the 128gb one. too bad the Ipod classic isn't available anymore.
HEY, I resent that, I quite enjoyed my little red, felt covered, stick MP3 player, which I think had either 2GB or 4GB of memory which was pretty good at the time and it was only like $20, so it's still way better than the $50 that apple wants for the shuffle.
I still have my ipod nano 3g and I love it, also have my samsung galaxy s20+ for music yes, but it is so cool when you just want to listen to your music with no interruptions from the notifications, messages, etc., to just have your ipod, also I think they're cool for kids.

Nearly the same design but the 5th gen had some nicer colors and that Ipod Touch Loop
All these come from the Steve jobs era. Tim cook ruined apples style

Jogging without your damn phone, that's why you need the Shuffle.
wildreams Same. Its so nice to go to the gym and not have your phone there to distract you :)
Sierra Rissell so true.
But you could just use your phone instead of the iPod.
FlowUrbanFlow have you ever jogged with your iPhone in the pocket of your shorts? it literally weighs it down and when you run it's annoying

Yeah. I thought I was the only one who seemed to consider this. This is pretty much the only time I ever listen to music when I'm out and about so it seems odd to me that it's considered such an old school idea.
ipod paved the way for the iPhone
I still carry the Ipod nano everyday - music on the go. Old school I guess. lol.
Ipod shuffle is great for running.
Marek Nosál People who don't run or workout don't get how awesome it is for running if you don't want to bring your cell All with you
The shuffle is secretly an amazing product. One of the cheapest things apple sells and amazing for if you're exercising and don't want to bring your phone or fall off your bike when you're looking for the right album.
i enjoy running but what i don't enjoy is feeling my phone jumping in my pocket .......

I don’t think the iPod Touch should die because a lot of kids use them to text their friends if they don’t need data yet. They can also FaceTime their parents if they have WiFi.
Lauren B. What!? They want to get rid of the touch also!?
Kev H. Idk if they are going to get rid of them, but it has been a while since a new one came out.
Lot of kids use ipads

not an apple fan, but the shuffle is a beast. Mine went through the washer and dryer and survived.

I'm 16 and I can't afford to pay for a monthly phone plan, so I just use my iPod, it is basically the same exact thing as a phone except You need wifi to call or message people (wifi is pretty much everywhere these days anyways).

now i miss the ipod shuffle
Actually ipod shuffle is still good for working out, if u dont use wireless headphones!!!
Because it was built and bought by humans.
80 gigabyte iPod? Nani?!
I guess they never miss 👀
I guess they never miss, huh!
Iphones are fucking expensive as fuck.
Lol yeah, I have a 1st gen MotoG and an 8GB Sony Walkman
you ca buy headphones with a micro sd card jack. taking all the use out of the shuffle
Why is apple such a shit company?
ChaoticLynx that's what I was thinking... 😂😂😉😂😂
***** I can do so much more on my android phone than an iPhone user and it costs a fraction of the price... I really don't see what beats that. And saying 'it's much more simple' is a nicer way of saying that it lacks features.

Dedicated mp3 players have many advantages, including:
better sound quality (most important)
higher capacity (about as important)
don't have to run down battery of your smart phone playing music.
F. W. Sauerteig is that English?
Yes it is, fuckerdoodle.
lol playing music barely burns any battery life at all on most phones these days.
smartphones have nowadays the actual size of a normal mp3 players or you can even use an Apple Watch or a smartwatch for that and you'll be ok without even bringing something with you as you'll be having the thing attached to your wrist. The quality is pretty much the same so there's really no point to get an iPod today in 2017. Really. It's an old technology by now.

you can still download on streaming services if you're subscribed though

I still use an iPod because I prefer my music player to be separate from my phone. Plus, I have so much music that if won't fit on a smartphone XD
Well, yeah, but I still just prefer to have separate devices. That's the main reason I still have an iPod. Plus, the lack of headphone jack is just plain annoying.
I use the iPod classic
But my iPods will.
exactly, why kill your phone battery?
Dakota Dewberry exactly the same reason why I have an iPod touch because I like to keep my music separated from my phone

Skyrat you are not the only one. I mean, I guess you could technically say I stream on UA-cam. If I listen to a song on my computer. But I use CDs and I listen to my iPod with the music that is downloaded onto it. I definitely hate Spotify.
If you want quality you should go CD and lossless.. want usability go streaming
Vela S do you know that you can mod these ipods to have more gb? Besides that, the 5gen ipod has the best DAC and has 80gb of storage
@@libertymartin5167 have you tried Spotify yourself though? Why hate it? Their music discovery and playlist curation is so good I found so many artists and music I never could have earlier (both old and new).
Also, quality is better than MP3, more dependant on headphones really these days. N u can save songs offline (all for few bucks a month instead paying same amount or more for a single album)
No I'm not sponsored by them 😋
How many times have you replaced the battery? Is it suitable for that old?
Am I the only one who caught a sneak peak at some of the music Austin listens to?
I saw Cage the Elephant, Avril Lavigne, Evanescence, All-American Rejects, Dr Dre, and the Boxer Rebellion
My guy you have some good taste
Marwan G nah
Marwan G FLAC is much higher quality than spotify
***** Are you an idiot? Spotify quality maxes out at 320kbps.
exactly the reasons why i was questioning his opinions. i had a 64gb ipod touch only for music and i still didn't have enough space. it's broken now so I'm getting the 128gb one. too bad the Ipod classic isn't available anymore.
They exist for those of us who can't afford an iPhone. There.
so why not buy a sony walkman or some other mp3 player, you would save yourself some money and your soul
You could get an off contract 5s for cheaper than the iPod touch
D-Tronics UK an iPod is actually a pretty good device though.
and people like me who don't have any friends who don't have anyone to text or call
That's funny you mentioned that. I am currently looking to buy an old Walkman or similar small cassette player.
Remember MP3 Players. The poor man's iPod.
HEY, I resent that, I quite enjoyed my little red, felt covered, stick MP3 player, which I think had either 2GB or 4GB of memory which was pretty good at the time and it was only like $20, so it's still way better than the $50 that apple wants for the shuffle.
Hell yeah,my cheap little stick mp3 player was one of the best gifts I ever received.
I still have my ipod nano 3g and I love it, also have my samsung galaxy s20+ for music yes, but it is so cool when you just want to listen to your music with no interruptions from the notifications, messages, etc., to just have your ipod, also I think they're cool for kids.
