    What an amazing “save”! That was fascinating and I learnt so much about how to rescue pants… Thanks from one of your Tall Girl fans.

      Hello there, dear author! I know you must understand the lifelong dilemma of pants that are just a little bit too short! After struggling with this issues for...FOREVER, it seems...a solution was bound to come to light, which it did many years ago. Can you imagine my heartbreak on the pair of jeans I spent hours making, only to have them shrink a bit more? Maybe from now on I will make sure to wash my denim more than once before embarking upon a project! ;)

    Actually, my mom just recently gave me a pair of jeans that are a smidge too big in the waist and shorter than I normally wear my jeans. I've been wondering what else I could do with these jeans: skirt, purse, apron, etc. Yesterday I randomly ran across alteration instructions for waist ...and here you are with instructions for achieving a smidge more length. I think I'm ready to practice what y'all have taught! Thank you, M'am!

      @@SewDarnedFun , My 1750's project turned out very nicely. How thoughtful of you to remember! I learned so very much hand stitching EVERYTHING. However, I have found I prefer to put my efforts into practical, everyday clothing now. I try to incorporate historical styles, skills, etc into my everyday ideas. But that project elevated my skills, my passion, and my confidence. I'm starting to sew for others: just filling needs as they come. Also sewing for my Grands. ...waiting on #12 & #13! (Daughter & DIL) A friend gave me a serger on which I'm slowly learning. It seems I might also be getting into light sewing machine repair. People give machines to me. My Bible Study ladies are going to be gifted machines as I get them tuned up. ...just passing on the blessings. Your channel and content is a blessing to me! Thank you so very much for your hard work, Dear Lady! (curtsy 🤗)

      @@SewDarnedFun ...YES! ...to learning about what our fore mothers went through to clothe family! ...and why children knew to not trash their clothes. So much learned! I used to be bad about thinking "Meh. That's good enough." All that hand sewing taught me, "Just do it right!" And yes'm, we are so blessed. All 7 children and Grands are within a 35 mile radius of us. We're country folk. Milk cows, chickens, garden, hunting, fishing, foraging, canning, etc. Most of our children live the same. About to start making more of our own clothes. Historical sewing also taught me that clothes are supposed to fit. Most people don't know and therefore can't appreciate clothing that fits well. I've never sewn pants/jeans. That's one of my next projects. 🙏 Blessings to you Ms. Carrie.

      @@bonniehyden962 Sounds like you have a very resourceful, busy family! I admire your living standards :) Making clothes...and making clothes that FIT can be two different animals! Jeans/pants that fit can be very tricky indeed! I wish you luck on making some well fitting pants!

    this can add two inches to jeans correct?

    • @SewDarnedFun
      @SewDarnedFun  2 місяці тому +1

      That seems like a generous (large)amount for a normal jeans hem. However, if you have a pair of pants that has a large ‘turn-under’ for a hem, then you should be able to gain *almost* the amount that’s turned to the underside. I have seen actual jeans that do have a large hem allowance (‘turn-under’, however). Remember that you will be creating a new seam line, so must subtract the amount of a new seam line from the extra amount that’s turned under. Hope that explanation helps! Thanks for watching. :)
