This is by far the best video on hemming jeans. You were clear with all the instructions and videos. It gave me the confidence to try it and both legs came out beautifully. I think I watched the video 8 times before tackling the project. That took longer than the time it took to actually hem the jeans! Thank you for sharing. Also, thanks to the girl who suggested placing a thick button behind the foot when sewing over the very thick seams. That worked like a charm!
Thank you!!! I agree , this is the best video on hemming jeans and your instructions are clear, so that even this sewing impaired individual was able to pull it off to perfection. The hem looks great!!!
I'm not a sewer and frankly I had my doubts about the final look. But the results blew me away! The hem truly does look perfectly original. Thank you so much for sharing. Your easy instructions made me think even I could accomplish this.
Thank you. I loved your method. I've had a pair of jeans waiting for me to hem for about a year. Now I won't be so afraid with this method. Thank you so much😊
Have watched numerous videos on here on how to do the same as you did. However all of those confused me and yours was the only one that made it easy to follow as in rolling up just 1/2 of the fabric. Other-words if one rolled up 2 inches as they need to shorten it by two inches, one takes half and rolls it up 1 inch . The other videos never mentioned that and just started sewing.
Very easy to do and my jeans look great. A bonus is I can still roll them up when I want to and you can't tell they have been hemmed. Thank you so much.
I found your video so helpful after watching several others. Thank you so much. Also the tip you gave about the thick part of the seam. You have given me much more confidence as a beginner and the jeans I have taken up were a success. Yay. 😊
I have been sewing for a long time, and I hate hemming jeans for myself and my husband! Thank you for showing something I think I can do and be able to wear the jeans in the actual daylight!
Just bought a new pair of jeans and never had to shorten them before. I don't sew much but if my machine cooperates, I can do this!!! Thanks bunches!!!
The best finishing i have watched so far..But I love my pants very much so dont fell confident.. I cut the original hem and just fold and sew again..cant compromise the finishing..
If you place a thickish button under the back of the presser foot and hold it whilst going over the bulk of the seam it will help to sew it much easier ❤
I have watched other videos of this and yours is by far the easiest to follow! May I ask, please, why did you zigzag the edge then use pinking shears to cut above the zigzag rather than zigzag the cut hem? Thank you for explaining so well and for sharing!
I had to reread your question. I wasn’t quite sure if I was going to cut off the hem or not until I got done then decided it was best to cut that off so that I did not trip over it. In the past I had one pair that a seamstress had hemmed for me and she kept the excess hem and I kept getting my boot caught in them and nearly fell down a flight of stairs. If the excess hem was short enough I would’ve just left it but with it being as much fabric as it was, it was safer to cut it off. But it was a decision I made after I sewed the zigzag. I hope that makes sense.
I have researched several utube examples of how to hem jeans. It’s either too complicated or not clear enough. Thank-you. Your presentation has given me the confidence I need to start hemming my jeans. 😊
I tried to make it a simple and concise as possible without being confusing. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. I hope your jean hemming works out great. Thanks for watching.
Thanks so much for a great video! I like how you explained everything and all the steps. The pacing was just right for me to follow along! I hate hemming jeans, but this method is going to be much better! It's a game changer for sure!
Hey Kimberly, senior here trying to hem my jeans. This video is better than most of the others. The last part of cutting the excess off and taping the seam could be avoided by stitching the excess cuff on the inside of the leg right ( using blue thread ) ? Thanks :)
Easiest video I've seen yet. Thank you. Would the double sided tape wear off with continual washing? Would stitching that area work rather than the tape or would that be obvious on the outside?
Thanks so much for this! It was so easy to follow. Quick question though, I don't own a pair of pinking shears, do you think the hem will stay well enough if i just cut the excess off with regular fabric scissors? I'll definitely still do the extra zigzag stitch step for sure regardless.
You mentioned that you changed your settings on your sewing machine, but didn't mention what those settings were (unless I missed that). Could you tell us what settings you used on your machine? Hope this isn't a silly question, but I am a newbie to this. Thanks!
Absolutely not a silly question. I changed the size of the zig zag stitch to be more narrow and taller to help with fraying. The tension had to be changed to accommodate the denim thickness. That will be different for different denims. I’m definitely not a sewer so I used a sample piece of fabric to get the correct settings. It took me a few adjustments to keep the thread from breaking.
Hi, Help please!! I need to shorten a pair of draw cord bottom trousers by 13.5 cms. How do I calculate the measurement to where to stitch?! And will the draw cord still work?!
I’m not sure what you mean by cord bottom? Do they cinch on the bottom and tighten at the ankle or do they cinch up the sides? If they cinch up the sides, no the cord will not work afterwards because we have sewn across the cord creating the shorter hem. If you are saying the cinch runs through the bottom hem and draws in around the ankle, then yes, they should still work.
@@kimberlyanndesigns1 Hi, thanks for your reply. They cinch around the ankle. They’re specialist ‘climbing trousers’ (my daughter’s, very expensive) which is why I’m worried about making a mistake!
@@tillysmith8469 if there is nothing being drawn up the side of the leg and the cord is just in the hem, I would think you should be fine. Be careful when stitching, not to stitch into the cord because then you can’t cinch them. 😉
@@kimberlyanndesigns1 thank you for your expert advice. I have shortened them, very successfully. Thank you so much for such an easy to follow video. My finished result looks quite professional!
It is peel and stick and it’s called fabricfuse. I buy it at Walmart. Yes it’s permanent and is washable. Those jeans always go into the washer and dryer. Never had a problem.
HOPE some one will respond. I will shorten a liquid knit pair of slacks. I know how to stitch around the original hem. My issue is this is stretch fabric, I will have AN EXCESS of fabric to cut off. How to keep it from flipping down.
The dress pants I’m not sure there would be a reason to do it that way. It’s just that when you ham jeans that bottom just never looks right if you cut everything off. I’m not quite sure how well the dress pants would work doing this message.
Does it matter how long I want to hem them ? Suppose let’s say I have a 34 length but want to shorten to about 28 and keep original hems . They’re super baggy so I know they won’t loose much shape if I shorten them I will know I would love the fit since the waist is Perfect

If you will pin the fabric in place and then place the pant leg wrong side out over a hard surface and flatten it with a hammer, it will flatten the seamed fabric making it much easier to sew through the seams.
why is everybody want to keep the original now what do you think is easier to cut the other ones off and you saw him up or am I missing something here I just got a machine so I don't know anything about sewing
Because jeans never look right on the bottom if you just cut them off and hem them. They look strange. That’s just my opinion. A jeans hem is a total different look than other pants.
hello very beautiful video please I ask request very nicely please kindly film how to thread and operate the sewing machine please OK?please kindly reply back OK?thank you very much
The only reason I cut anything off of these jeans was because there was so much excess after bringing the pants up to the correct length. After a while, you might be able to notice the bulk and unless it is secured, you could trip if wearing heels. Believe me, it happened to me. I nearly fell down a flight of stairs when the heel of my shoe got caught in the “excess material” left on the pants.
