I rode this route for my middle school trip, the train was a little bumpy and it took longer than car but you didn't really have to do anything and you could just go on your phone and watch things and buy chips and eat.
Great fast video of my favorite Amtrak route. I travel the Pacific Surfliners between San Diego, Los Angeles & Oxnard, it beat driving on the I-5/U.S.101 parking lots where people slow down for the sake of slowing down in nice weather, no construction zones & no accidents-the deliberate & intentional slow down happens nationwide.
it’s super cool that amtrak pacific surfliner comes out from LA that far! i travelled along US 101 near that region (0:00-4:07) a few months ago and sadly i saw no amtrak trains 😭… maybe because it was the weekend or they mostly stay down near san diego and los angeles
Most Pacific Surfliners run from San Diego to Los Angeles, but a few go all the way to San Luis Obispo. I've taken it as far as Santa Barbara, without needing to change trains in LA. Nice.
There have been upgrades on some of Amtrak’s routes outside the Northeast & Keystone corridors that allows for higher speeds, the FRA doesn’tand won’t allow it at all. The FRA has set up the 79 MPH maximum speed limit for all trains in 1979. It needs to be updated. The upgraded rotes can handle the speeds of 110 to 125 MPH with no problems.
At 1:33 is that siding near Guadalupe with hand-thrown turnouts. It is a great time-waster because the train must be stopped each time a crew members must throw a switch. Let's get this anachronism fixed!
Ive been lucky enough to do the Nappa Valley wine train, also lucky enough to have traveled the West Highland Line in Scotland , probably as l live here. One thing l would love to do is the USA Coast to Coast on train such a diverse and fantastic country.
@@mxderateprod lmao 13-18? buddy they get 1 UP hauler train that runs through there mon-tue and thu-fri. there used to be so much more traffic but nowadays it's quite sad. so on those 4 days of the week its 13 trains and on the rest it's 12 unless theres a special move
*Please do this again at normal speed-there's a lot going on in this stretch that I want to see, I worked this area for 40 years and to have it go by at 5 times the speed of sound is way way too fast*
It's actually about 6 hours from San Luis Obispo to Los Angeles. The time traveling all the way from San Luis Obispo to San Diego is about 8 or even 9 hours
There needs to be many more trains from SLO instead of SBA. At least make trains 768 and 593 run to SLO and have a Thruway connection to/from the Bay Area.
Yeah its weird how there are only 2 Surfliners a day each direction. At least 2 of the 3 the trains that terminate at Goleta should be extended to SLO, and at least 2 of the 12 trains that terminate at LA should be extended to either Goleta or SLO
223 miles in 6 minutes. That means an average speed of 2330 mph. Eat your heart out France with your very pokey TGV.
LOL

This is a great time to enjoy the three counties

This is great. I play it at .25 speed.

They’re definitely active on the weekend, there just could’ve been delays.
For those who feel the video moves too fast, go into settings and change the speed to .25 and you'll probably like it better.
The quality is too low at that speed :(
Nice Footage. The music for the video was on point too.
I CANT WAIT TO RIDE THIS TOMORROW!!
Man 12 yr old me was able to actually ride trains. No fair.

Never knew there were tunnels on the Surfline, intresting to see

@Pacific Surfliner What this timelapse Music?
Amtrack Pacific Surfliner express train in the middle of train tracks there's an Amtrack coast starlight coming
This video also illustrates how many curves are on the SP Coast Line from Chatsworth north. We are lucky trains can go 79 MPH on so much of it.

Is this still the case, even with PTC?
what is the name of the beautiful background song called?
They really need to double-track it.
They can’t because Union Pacific doesn’t want to spend so much money
They could but UP is being a bitch and rather take care of there own trains
5:18 where the chatsworth crash is located
I recommend 0.25

Amazing video. The Capitol Corridor should do one of these from San Jose to Sacramento.
Yeah
Oakland to Auburn too
do you have this video in normal speed on youtube? The San Luis Obispo Surfliner?
That trip is about 6-6.5 hrs long.
You can also slow the video down by adjusting the speed of the video in the settings area
3:47 is where I live, that tiny town of La Conchita
What's it like hearing those train horns every day? Not to mention that exit/entrance onto 101 that crosses the tracks?

Didn't stop in camarillo...
Isn't scheduled to. Or wasn't, I should say, 790 now originates in LA as 590.
Not all trains stop at Camarillo or Moorpark.
I think only the San Diego - Goleta Surfliner trains stop at Camarillo

for being the "Surfliner" there sure is very little Surf line.
Hi Kevin, you can see more on the video from San Diego to Los Angeles: ua-cam.com/video/PPbTYFAFAic/v-deo.html
There’s another 40 mins of Surfline if you go south to San Diego between San Juan Capistrano and Oceanside
