⁴ᴷ⁶⁰ NYC Subway Timelapse - The A Express to Rockaway Park
Вставка
- Опубліковано 13 сер 2018
- The A line of the New York City Subway provides express service between Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens. It has three southern branches; Lefferts Boulevard, Far Rockaway, and Rockaway Park. The branches that run to Far Rockaway and Rockaway Park are especially interesting, as they travel over a causeway and two bridges that traverse Jamaica Bay.
The A line currently uses R32 and R46 type cars, with a single set of R68/A-type cars also used during the PM rush hour. The R32s have a passenger-accessible front window, which allows for a great view out of the front of the train. This allowed for this video to be taken. Enjoy!

Man, I wish these trains would move this fast in real life. I'd never be late again.
sanrock08 we'd die so i guess youre right lmao
Ikr
It would cause a bunch of train crashes to handle
MTA would have to pay so much to repair to go out of bankruptcy
yeah but then the train might derail on a curve and then you would just die
Yeah..and we all die in the process 2.
Most people think of Midtown when asked about NY. But NY is so large and diverse that you can take a train to the beach. It's incredible the amount of infrastructure there.
-It's incredible the amount of infrastructure there.
Almost as impressive is how poorly we maintain it.
Matthew M the amount of infrastructure we have is incredible, but in incredibly poor condition
Matthew M its not that bad here because it’s the A train and it’s stations were either renovated or in good condition, but many lines have it worst
Other countries have it much much better y’kno
@@frozenace3337 not really. Only china has bigger railway systems than new york. New york subway is bigger than any European subway system
Fun NYC resident fact: the A train is the longest route in the entire NYC subway system at 32.5 miles. It runs from the southern tip of southeastern Queens to the Northwest corner of Manhattan.
This ride takes forever. We take this route to visit fam when in New York.
F has a long route as well
The a is in the bronx
@@xtoxicx403 r u high
I thought it was d lol
The JFK Station gave me shitloads of nostalgia that I nearly cried. I lived in New York for the first five years of my life and some of my earliest and most fond memories were riding the subway with my dad, and that was a station we visited frequently.
At some point in my life, before I die, I'd like to move back.
Howard Beach is nice, but really expensive now. All of Brooklyn is. And it takes about an hour now to midtown on weekends (only time I'm ever able to visit).
@@lucasmossman3820 Sure is. My bad.
This was weirdly calming
For me it's because everything else was flying by while only the rails were still.
I'm watching this while pissed off waiting on the A in this hot station.
kev2020 how u get service down there
Lord Vader subways got WiFi now
Lamo I waited 20 min for the A today
Lol
If the A train ran local it would take more than 2 hours to go from end to end.
So basically the C train
Half the time it does due to delays.
Late night service
@Justice not really probably 45 mins more because of (C)’s Ending Locations at both ends.
Yeah but its express
*FINALLY!!* Love this timelapse as well!
This video makes the ride seem so short but don’t be fooled!!! It’s almost a 2 hour ride from first to last stop. 😂
Notice how there’s barely any C trains you see being bypassed by in Brooklyn
Abstractt your right TF
This looks cool! I remembered taking the A to Far Rockaway before Sandy happened and the travel time through there was long, but the view was worth it espcially when passing through Jamaica Bay.
Yeah. Unfortunately the wall they put up to protect against future floods spoils the view, but I guess it was necessary. Could they have used transparent sheets of plexiglass or something like that instead?
Whoa, that's hot!. I never saw that part of New york before.
The Rockaways are pretty. Sandy did a good job destroying it 😢
During this summer, when I got bored, I just hopped on a subway to the end of the line and listened to music. My favorite lines are the N and Q trains to Coney Island when it goes across the Manhattan bridge and makes its way to the beach.
What’s also unique about the A is some parts above ground almost think you’re riding the LIRR. Then again Far Rockaway was an ex-LIRR Station.
I enjoyed riding the A from the Rockaways last week. I spent a little time on the beach near Beach105th Street two Sundays ago. I tried to catch an R46 A train that was serving the Rockaway Park branch so the MTA can fix up part of the Hammels Wye. I prefer riding the R46s on the A because they have face forward seats where I can stare out the window without twisting my neck too much. I might stay in the Rockaways on my next vacation to New York so I can enjoy the ride along the causeways between the beach & the rest of the city.
As an ex train operator, this was the pain of overnight drivers since it had to make all the stops. This train went to rockaway park instead of far rockaway. Far rockaway is the longest route and has open ocean views. Most of the A train route is safe to ride cause Brooklyn and Queens got wussy!
“Brooklyn and Queens got wussy” it’s only the neighborhoods on the East River (Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Astoria, etc) that got “wussy”, there’s still large parts of Brooklyn and Queens that hipsters and yuppie transplants avoid like the plague lol
Sure does try to make good time through East NY, Bed-Stuy, Flatbush, etc!
@@sidharthsingh6606 Look at rents even in the still-questionable hoods. I'd never be able to afford most of them. Lots of people chasing not very much housing (compared to demand).
The A train is the most annoying train to take. They have 3 branches, and half the time they dont say which train it is.
@@lucasmossman3820 I tweeted the MTA about it and they said that they are sharing the info with the planning team for consideration.
Honestly, in my honest opinion, they should just make Rockaway Park service Shuttle Only or bring back the (K) train, to go from WTC to Rockaway Park. One of the reasons why I think rockaway park shuttle only service would be good is because it would go all the way to Euclid Avenue, therefore giving passengers an easy connection fo Brooklyn.
Owly123 That would be completely unnecessary.
Read the sign!
Blake McNamara That would only do so much in the short term. However in the medium term, there should be a connection between the Broadway Line and the Fulton Street Line and then to the Jamaica Line, which would allow for increased capacity on the Fulton Street alone by rerouting the R and W to the Fulton Local tracks, with the R going to Jamaica Center and the W to Euclid Avenue. The C would then be express to Lefferts Blvd (without local-express interlining in Brooklyn) whole the A solely serves the Rockaways. With the elevated section of the J train between Broadway Junction and Cypress Hills eliminated, the J would operate between Broadway Junction and 95th Street.
In the long term, the R and W would be rerouted to Red Hook and service in Brooklyn replaces by Second Avenue Subway service, while keeping the Fulton alone deinterlined.
At the end of the ride you can walk around to Pickles and Pies Food Market and Deli! What's more NY than that? A friend of mine rode this train to shul and back when he was a boy. He lived in Rockaway. My parents grew up in Massapequa. I remember visiting my grandparents when they ran the Farmingdale Motor Lodge. But mostly I have visited Manhattan. Oh, and the World's Fair! '65?
Thanks for the tip!
Ha ha! I just used Google Earth Street View to peek around the end of the line. I'm a foodie, so I always look for a place to eat. In NY, you don't have to go far!
Back in '05 we got off the train from Hudson and went looking for lox and bagels. Dunkin' Donuts®, Subway® everywhere, I was getting depressed. Suddenly we were in front of the best deli ever! Near Bryant Park I think, they had a mezzanine. I ❤️ NY!
Wtf is Pickles and Pies? Just go to the corner store and get you a 50 cent bag of chips and an arizona... 😭
B
You can tell this is fake because there weren't a dozen different delays due to signal problems.
😂😂😂
lool
You guys have Andy Byford now, he will try to get ATO/ATC on those lines and fix the signals (like what is happening to Line 1 here in Toronto under his former leadership).
Lol suuuuuure
I take the A from 207 every day and u so fuckin rigjt
The R32 "A" train is another sadly fallen legend.
Damn, this subway line runs WELL out of the city. Goes on for ages too!
A Guy Called Pi u do know queens and brooklyn are part of nyc right
Yeah, why?
AFAIK, the A line to Far Rockaway is the longest line in the city.
NYC Subway doesn’t go out of the city lol, are you thinking of the LIRR?
Looks to me like it does, but that might just be the angle of it or something. Suburbs look a whole lot less dense from ground level.
Between 59th st-Columbus Circle and 42nd st-Port Authority bus terminal there is a complex web of tracks with the E veering of east, the B and C merging together as well as the A and D merging together. The B and D also split apart.
Love these time lapses as it let's me travel my fave lines in a short time :3 Thank you!!
The subway is a miracle
I love these. Keep them coming!
Cool time lapse! Thanks for sharing with us!
Awesome bro, glad to see you're still making these!
TBH, I’m not really much of an R32 (A) train fan, but this is pretty amazing. I usually film videos pointing directly at the doors or pressed against the windows for my perspective type of ride.
i love slowin down the timelapse. 0.75x on this one does it for me! thanks for sharing
The nostalgia man... Thank you for this.
woooo A train riders represent! Dyckman St for me 👍
175 St Bro. Live across the GWB.
80th St for me. Such a long subway line.
207 for me, i live in The Bronx.
Utica avenue for me
Wow u had the best sit on the train. I havent rode that train ride in over 10 years. Thank you so much. I do mis riding those sometimes😍😀
The Scary Part, Traveling through the Bay with No Lights & it's Dark!
Now as of June 16th 2023 the Metro A line in Los Angeles is now longer than the A Train in NYC. NYC A train is 35 miles long A line in LA is now 48 miles long. Azusa-Long Beach vs Inwood-Rockaways
Congrats on 20K!
I like this format!
Always love the A train. And very interesting scenery along the route. Love 2 c it run at night. That would interesting. Need more.
I remember on the 10th of October when the A train went to Lefferts instead of Far Rockaway. I also remember there was a pigeon in Broadway Junction and the A took the place of the C when we were leaving to go home what a crazy train ride but still fun
Cool video DJ Hammers 😁
The fact that this video makes me dizzy when it's underground I love it
This is so nostalgic, good work!
*My favorite train! Yes!! Nice timelapse!!!!!* 😄😄😄😄👏👏👏👏👏👏
I went to the Rockaway via the A many times. I'd only been to Rockaway Park when the A runs only to Lefferts Boulevard or Rockaway Park during the Phase II of the Hurricane Protection work in Summer of 2018.
Nice. I love your videos man. I was wondering if you could do the 4 line I would really appreciate it
you can't see the front on the NTTs. For some stupid reason, the R160s,142s, etc. have opaque windows
Last summer I saw a very beautiful girl in the A train, now my favorite line is this one :'v
I loved watching this. Now going to watch the C time lapse to compare the local to the express...
I took the L train everywhere when I visited NYC and stayed with a friend in east village
Man, if only it was that fast, my morning commute to Beach Channel High School in Rockaway Park from B'way and 116th would've been 5 minutes instead of 110 minutes.
Love this trip..especially when it comes out of tunnel at grant ave..
Nice soug DJ
Excellent video!
The A and D lines have a big express part on the upper west side from 59th st to 125th st
Nice timelapse!
This is really cool!
Love it. 👍🏻
Days ago i used to take a tour all around the a train every single station
Except on inwood 207
Edit i did go on 207th
Amazing.
Forty years since I took this to Beach Channel HS (which is no longer) at 98th St Playland station and the freakin trains aren't any faster! This is the future? lol. wow, we really dropped the ball the last couple of decades.
Awesome video
Dj hammers you’re the best!!!!
Hahaha thanks!!!
Yeah man... more of this! :]
I wish Chicago had this but you know elevated and not underground
Even at fast speed that section over the flats took a bit, lol! I've only operated to far rock, never taken the right at the wye.
born in and lived in ny many years.. Never took train out there. wow. i missed alot
Everybody talking about the different boroughs and trains passing by i'm just amazed by how many stations there are and how big the route is!
Nice video! Labels for the stops would've made it perfect
It's about time u made a new vid though out this month
Keep it up
Awesome
Inwood to downtown in 2:00 minutes.
40 years ago, that would have got me out of a lot of trouble with the boss.
What's a good website, program, or app that does can speed up videos 10x-20x. UA-cam can only do 6x.
R42 Productions I made this in Final Cut Pro X. It’s a great program!
I’ve actually rode out to Beach 116th St. It’s a pretty ride. But long...
Cool!!
Hi
BenTheMiner / MTA Railfanner hi
I take this train literally everyday to West 4th st. It's a very long ride.
Good video
nice
i love the song

what camera do u use, this looks amazing
RFWs are awesome
BenTheMiner / MTA Railfanner yes
Very nice! Were you using a tripod? How did you manage to shoot a view shot from a passenger seat?
Xtina X
In nyc mta you can film but tripods and flashes are forbidden.
Section 150.9 C
Where is Euclid Avenue? Maybe I missed it. A few years ago while I was visiting NY for a month, I camped at a friends place.
Every morning we would take the A into Manhattan and I would wander off exploring the entire city, and he would be off to his classes at NYU.
It was truly a fantastic time. Although I would say, there were a few times I felt extremely unsafe during the night at Euclid since I was always a few feet within a conversation turned sour and a brawl in full swing.
Euclid Avenue was the second to last station in the video (at the 3:13 mark) before the train went above ground. If you look carefully, you will see two MTA workers in the Dispatcher's Office look in the direction of the videographer as if they were saying "hey, take a look at this".
I like the A train
And no shuttle at Broad Channel?! I remember how hard I used to celebrate when I'd catch a Rockaway Park Express from Manhattan instead of Far Rockaway. I think only 4 inbound and 4 outbound during rush hour, respectively?
All Rockway bound (A) Trains run to Rockaway Park until early Septemeber due to trackwork. But under normal circumstances, you'd be correct !
The best
I Mostly take the 1 train and rarley ever go to an A train. I usually get on the A train during field trips and to 34th street which is also on the 1 train
what camera did you use?
The song is called you know why-Loyality freak music
0:38 my home staion
Cool I live by the A and it cool ig
DJ HAMMERS, whats the name of the song??
They should have rush hour A trains peak direction go nonstop between Euclid Avenue and Broad Channel!!
Wait how’d you get that view??
I went to New York about a week ago, and was able to film some of the subway, but I didn't get to film as much as I wanted to. Any recommendations of where/what I should film next time I visit NYC?
Brayden Bachlott 7 train. spend the whole day there you won’t be disappointed
The 7 Train that Baseball Player Bitched about & the People Nearly 20 Years Ago!
2nd Ave Subway
Niccc
When the train goes uptop at queens why is there a middle track?
Yard Lead that comes from Pitkin yard.
All these bloggers sound like they all had typical NYC experiences! Someone mentioned NY World's Fare'65! I was there! I also remember the R-1s. And R-10 trains and also when to go to any of the Rockaways there was an additional fare just to exit the terminals including "Far Rockaway" and "Rockaway Park" terminals.
Now I wanna take the A train to its last stop
No... No you don't
It's take 2 hour the start from there to get to the last stop. I'm serious👀
Because of this video…
Whats the name of the song?? You know why
I keep thinking to myself, 'it'd be interesting to ride the whole line', but I've still never gotten around to it.
