well, I know I should have went to bed when I clicked on your video. Couldn't stop watching it! Superb all the way, and nice and steady! Something you don't see too much of with other videos. I noticed the noise difference between the concrete ties vs. the wooden ties, quite the difference!
This was quite a treat to watch. I've been to Pomona from Union Station many times via Metro link .. but this route is totally different ! It seems you by-pass the 2-3 mile southern route down the LA river out of LA. If you notice just as you are pulling into Pomona another southern route merges just before the station. I'm sure that's the Riverside line I've been down so many times =). Cheers and thanks for a great rail fan experience.
You can feel the jolt as it passes from the nice new welded concrete tie rail onto the old timber ties at 38:30. That pretty much seems to mark the point where the urban area ends.
Past so many of the places that I've lived before, all the places I used to play on the train tracks as a kid, interesting to see it from that perspective
That was a great video. I subscribed and can't wait to see your other videos. It was a smooth ride and a great view. I kept cleaning my computer screen until I realized it was the water spots on the back window of the train. Thanks for posting. Great job.
Good job. I used to be a train dispatcher and this was one of my territories. Max. speed for passenger trains L.A. to West Colton was 65 mph back then. This train usually runs via Metrolink trackage L.A. to Bassett (flyover) but can run via UP. I have since transferred to train service and now work in engine service for UP between KC and Coffeyville, Kansas but it was nice to see the old territory I used to dispatch. I was born in Glendale, just minutes from L.A.
A really interesting video. Not being from LA, I was tracking the route using the Google satellite view while I was watching the video which allowed me to identify rail yards, connecting lines, freeways, streets and etc.. I learned that I could drive on Valley Blvd and get a good view of the tracks. When the train stopped, I could see that it had arrived at Pomona Station. I then used the 3D view to get a glimpse of the station itself. That's pretty cool!
Great Video! Rode Amtrak's Texas Eagle back in January and this video brings back the feel of the trip, I too shot video but without a tripod. Was my first time riding Amtrak and I enjoyed the ride, thanks for sharing!
Very cool! Rolling right through my regular ralfanning route towards the last 10 minutes. And what a difference in ride quality between UP's new concrete ties / rail compared to the old rail / wooden ties after 38:28! Very nice vid indeed! :D
That track is a short connection between the route to Ventura and the line to San Diego. I believe they use it to wye long-distance trains after they arrive at LA, since the 8th st. shops are to the left of the camera's point of view. I believe the entire diamond is operated by SCRRA (Metrolink)
lukebccb is correct, this is a Superliner Sleeping Car. It is outfitted with windows on either end, commonly used by conductors to protect shoves into yards and so that people can see what type of car they'll be walking into next (obviously here there is no car behind us, therefore I could film out of it). trainguy799 has plenty of videos of this train (not the exact one, but the trainset rarely varies). There is no cab car. Cab cars are more often used on short-distance trains.
This is the old Southern Pacific right of way which the Union Pacific took over when they purchased the Southern Pacific Railroad. The UP has a parallel line that I believe is a double tracked high traffic line that most trains use.
Cool clip. I like the 'honest' view you get of a city from a train. LA reminds me a bit of traveling north out of Melbourne by rail; apart from the signs in Spanish.
Called a split rail. Same function as a derail, but usually works 100% of the time as the cars can occasionally run over a derail and stay on the track.
I took the Sunset Limited out of LA in 2014. We weren't 5 minutes out of LAX when dispatch made us stop because two cars collided with each other on the grade crossing. it blocked the rails for 4 hours. We barely got to San Antonio to make the link to the Texas Eagle. We got there but the train had already left. I don't know if we got to the station in time for the transfer. I remember waking up to a switcher shoving us up the line at a pretty good speed. 5:43 clearly a missing track.
Maybe this Summer I will take Amtrak's Sunset Limited from New Orleans to Los Angeles on #1 and Return to New Orleans as #2 then #20: The Crescent to Atlanta.
I'm halfway through this trip and it's awesome, OMG I love it. I don't know if you've done more of these but if I had to criticize anything I would like to see better surroundings. Looking at LA concrete is kind of a turn off. Maybe next time you can do Donner Pass or something green. Great job man!!!
Every big city in the States is like that. Ive rode trains out of Phili (which makes L.A. look spotless), New york, Newark, Boston, Providence, etc. They all look like third world countries. But once outside of the cities, the scenery is great. Love the trains.
Very enjoyable video, though not the most scenic of areas, esp, with all the graffitti and litter. What is top speed in this stretch? Is it about 55 mph?? Thanks for sharing. Victor from San Jose, CA.
Does the Sunset Limited always go over the former SP or do they sometimes use Metrolink's San Bernardino Line between El Monte and Union Station? One Sunset Limited route description mentions running in the I-10 median just east of LA which is the Metrolink line. Obviously not the case in this video.
Cool. I never realized how much that first part of the line is below grade. At about 16:00 you can see an old track that went up a ramp and probably use to serve businesses back in the day.
@trainguy799 Haha, wow! That's really something! It confused me as to why there were two detectors right next to each other, they sound like they're scanning different things though.
Dunno if I have commented on this video yet, but I like it! Unfortunately you cannot get daylight shots on this train anymore unless it is severly delayed. Good for marketing, bad for videos? LOL
This video must have been shot several years ago, or else the train was extremely late leaving LA. I took a cross-country trip on Amtrak in September, and I rode #2 east out of LA. The train left at 10 pm, on schedule. I would say that #2's schedule was altered drastically after this video was shot.
Bill Chambers Yes, I have seen schedules in which the 2 Sunset Limited/422 Texas Eagle departs LAX (the station) at 3:00pm, but now it departs at 10:00pm. Also, the westbound train arrives in LAX at 5:35am, instead of 8:30am now.
Good point! :) By the way, is it possible to watch a UA-cam video backwards?.. (I know the QuickTime applications allows it, by holding 'Alt' key and double-clicking)

It's nice that you were able to film this at a time when Mission Tower still existed and you captured a great view of the tower.
That is what I love about trains, ever changing scenery all carefree.
Amazing how smooth the new rails sound compared to the old. Would have never have thought.
Eye catching video

Awesome video of train trip in California 😃
I must be in heaven.....thanks for posting:)
I hope to ride Amtrack from Lake Charles, La
to L.A. one day!!
wonderful,,a clear view of the tracks for the whole journey!!
Excellent video. I can sit and watch this for hours.
wow, nice long video! kinda gives you an idea of what riding an amtrak is like, all the sites and sounds and things. thanks for the upload!
You can feel the jolt as it passes from the nice new welded concrete tie rail onto the old timber ties at 38:30. That pretty much seems to mark the point where the urban area ends.
Nicely done. Would have never thought of videoing out the rear of a train, though I like to stand there and watch.
Love this video. Seeing what I have not seen before. Looks like a real smooth ride!
Excellent Video!!! Thumbs Up!! Subscribed!!!
looking forward to more - beyond Pomona...
When I travelled to LA in 1988...it was aboard the Chief. I'm pretty positive we were routed this way.
Past so many of the places that I've lived before, all the places I used to play on the train tracks as a kid, interesting to see it from that perspective
If you want to be technical, this is the Texas Eagle. Nice video!
That was a great video. I subscribed and can't wait to see your other videos. It was a smooth ride and a great view. I kept cleaning my computer screen until I realized it was the water spots on the back window of the train. Thanks for posting. Great job.
Very relaxing video. Thanks for posting!
Great video! Great Job! I enjoy 45 minutes of it!
Great video! Thanks for posting!
Very enjoyable! After the 37 minute mark I noticed some of the old SP search light signals as well as remains of the old pole line.
Most enjoyable trip. Thanks!
WOW!! Nice video. Congratulations. Thanks.

Good. I liked a great deal of the video - quite interesting.
That was fun! Now I gotta get my landlegs back again... Thanks!
Great Video! Rode Amtrak's Texas Eagle back in January and this video brings back the feel of the trip, I too shot video but without a tripod. Was my first time riding Amtrak and I enjoyed the ride, thanks for sharing!
That was odd watching familiar sights out the back window of a train! Thanks!
This was pretty cool. Thanks for taking the time to share it with us!
Because of this beautiful i subscribe your channel ! Excelent work ! Congrats !
BEST FREAKIN' UA-cam TRAIN VID........E-V-E-R! Bravo...BRAVO!
Very cool! Rolling right through my regular ralfanning route towards the last 10 minutes.
And what a difference in ride quality between UP's new concrete ties / rail compared to the old rail / wooden ties after 38:28!
Very nice vid indeed! :D
i miss the daytime sunset limited!
Me three
When I heard the car attendant call "Conductor to the 2230 car", figured you were busted :-)
Awesome trip, thank you for recording the trip! :-)
Super video
I liked this. 💙
Great video! I've always wanted go to LA by train! The farthest west I've went by train was to Albuquerque on the Southwest Chief.
Wow, LA looks likes dirty. Keeping it 💯 don’t forget to pack your can of spray paint
Great ride video!
Nice! Well done!
Thank you.
GOOD VIDEO IT FELT LIKE WAS TAKING A RIDE TOO.. AMTRAK WENT THROUGH SOME ROUGH AREAS HUH LOL?
awesome vid love that sunset route ,comes through houston also.

Beautiful southwest scenery, where I'm from in the east all you see is industry in Pennsylvania and New Jersey until you're in the mountains
what a friendly conductor :D
I enjoyed the ride very much. Thank you for sharing it.
Nice one!!
I'll drink to that ! !

As an 🇦🇺, would've liked to see some of the interior of the train, the cafe, seating ect
I wouldn't insult Melbourne, Australia's second largest city, by comparing it to Los Angeles.
Love all the control towers - with absolutely no trafiic to control....
Perfect loft apartments!
Called a split rail. Same function as a derail, but usually works 100% of the time as the cars can occasionally run over a derail and stay on the track.

nice vid thankyou
interesting video!
Maybe this Summer I will take Amtrak's Sunset Limited from New Orleans to Los Angeles on #1 and Return to New Orleans as #2 then #20: The Crescent to Atlanta.
If you did do that you would be stuck in NO overnight. The Sunset Limited has a scheduled arrival time of 940pm. The Crescent departs at 7am.
Concrete ties are sure more quite then wooden ties! i didnt know that! cool!
Not many trains around for a large city... Looks like a secondary road...
I'd like to get an Amtrak rover ticket and ride American trains next year. They are so large to European eyes!
LOL! Yes, there are miles and miles of miles-and-miles on the Sunset Limited. I enjoyed the ride from El Paso to San Antonio.
Loved it. But window needs to be cleaned....Thanks.
The Wino's were on strike.
I wish there was an outside shot of this train.
If you could run it backward and replace the soundtrack with locomotive noises, we could all pretend we're looking out the windshield up front.. ;-D
It really depends on the UP and Metrolink dispatchers. It's a 50/50 chance.
Bring Windex and some paper towels next trip, tough to watch in HD, but loved it anyway.
the rear vestibu.le is thee best place to take pictures
The first 14 minutes was like leaving a third world country. Los Angeles needs to clean up it's act.
Every big city in the States is like that. Ive rode trains out of Phili (which makes L.A. look spotless), New york, Newark, Boston, Providence, etc. They all look like third world countries. But once outside of the cities, the scenery is great. Love the trains.
helmitpeak Even Boston? I'm surprised.
Also, railroad tracks go through the worst parts.
Eddie Banks In fact, that's because rail tracks greatly reduce surrounding property value.
@@ancylostomiasis I can afford a derelict camper trailer on a commercial property lot.
Antelope Valley line...far right!!
Nice video!, Maybe, its just an idea, is it possible too make a train shoot, so that others (from oversea) can see what train you on?
Damn they must of been late since they normally depart LA at like 10:00 pm
you shouuld try taking it from la to chicago longest trip i been on yet aboard the texas eagle
Very enjoyable video, though not the most scenic of areas, esp, with all the graffitti and litter. What is top speed in this stretch? Is it about 55 mph?? Thanks for sharing.

Ok i need that amtrack express train from los Angeles to New Orleans Louisiana
I wish i could go to California But im stuck in the small state of Delaware on the east coast
wow a tripod video... as rare as a Ferrari 250 GTO
Cool. I never realized how much that first part of the line is below grade. At about 16:00 you can see an old track that went up a ramp and probably use to serve businesses back in the day.
Looks like it went to that old factory at one time.
@trainguy799 Haha, wow! That's really something! It confused me as to why there were two detectors right next to each other, they sound like they're scanning different things though.
Well done! Thank you.
Could only be.tter if looking forward from the engine.
At 14:27 behind the oil tank cars is a tower and blue vessel. I have seen similar thing in other vids near tank cars. What are these?
Looks like it rained the day before.
It's not on the lens, if you look closely you can see it's actually on the rear window of the coach.
Dunno if I have commented on this video yet, but I like it! Unfortunately you cannot get daylight shots on this train anymore unless it is severly delayed. Good for marketing, bad for videos? LOL

i see u guys have installed the new LED type signals and done away with the searchlights?
I have some Rear view footage too just in case you're interested. Steady like this.
excuse me but about 7:30 min in is the track there made especially for passenger rail i noticed how instead of wood it looked like concrete
Have there been multiple tracks from 21:25 onwards before the rail line has been renovated? Thanks!
You can see me filming it at Walnut Grove! (21:52) I'm standing at the intersection filming the Sunset go by! Small world! :D
Good point! :)
By the way, is it possible to watch a UA-cam video backwards?..
(I know the QuickTime applications allows it, by holding 'Alt' key and double-clicking)
Nice view of the city at 4:15 though.
