I love sam. You know he can shred, but he chooses the right times to do so. And it leaves you in anticipation the whole time. It really does help to know other types of music so you can have a huge bag to pull from, and he has it!
I didn't quite get the whole master volume thing until I started playing with it on my G5420t but once you've dialed in your tone and volume for each pickup it helps to retain your sound and simply let's you control the loudness factor. Brilliant especially for a hollowbody.
I just got the 2420 in Brooklyn burst. Coming from only owning an acoustic (airline) it's been a nice transition to electric playing. Largish body sounds good unplugged, sounds great plugged in to my cube 40. I'm stoked the experts are saying good things about my ax as well.
Nice. That middle jam slow blues was good. Nice chemistry between you two. Sam's a new person to me, but he has the chops, and the ability to get the jazz sounds well - hats off :)
Same but also think about the brands that don't. The Squier name has a lot of history and that was true even before they started supplying Fender with strings in the 50s. Epiphone also has a lot of history, it was around for 39 years before Gibson. I think most of the other brands use the same name throughout.
@@misterknightowlandco I'm pretty sure we have a few folks who were around in 1957 when CMI (the company that owned Gibson) acquired Epiphone. And up until 1970, many Epiphones were made with the exact same timber, materials and components as well as by the same personnel as their Gibson counterparts.
Hi Pete from 2+ years in the future! I purchased a 5220 yesterday just like the jade one that you were playing. Love this guitar. It’s $549 US and sounds and looks amazing!
That figured top on the G2420 looks amazing! I'd get that over the Brooklyn Burst if I can find one like that. Those are really a bang for your buck guitars!
The Jet 5220 looks, sounds and plays great. I think it is getting to the point where we drop the phrase 'great value for the money' and say something like 'plays and sounds like a guitar 2 [3] times the price'. These guitars are at the stage where they have their own great and individual voicing - as you say, RC bought one (ie, the cheap version because he liked it so much). Would be good to do a back to back comparison with the very unaffordable related Gretsch models (ie. Jet 5220 and Players series Jet). I have been a Tele (USA) and SG (USA)person for most of my life, and recently bought my first Jet (the 5220) and a Yamaha Revstar (502T) for something different and these guitars play and sound awesome - along the lines of guitars costing 2 or 3 times as much, only individually different.
The vid Rabea and Pete did on 4 Gretsch guitars under $1,000 sold me on the 5220... Rabea's guitar in that video blew the more expensive ones out of the water imo... That guitar has something special going on...
The pickups are different between the 2 as well according to Gretsch's website. Black filtertrons on the one with the Bigsby and broadtrons in the other.
Found this quote in a car review from South Africa in 2016 = “ design of the software is just... inspired. The attention to detail and fingernomics (I literally just made that up, but I’m totally chuffed with myself and will be copyrighting it. It's a combination of “finger” and “ergonomics”) is utterly remarkable.” I’m afraid you’re too late 🤪 but maybe He hasn’t copyrighted it yet 🤓. Good word. And what a jam!
Come on Pete, do your research! The G5220 and G5230T actually have different pickups. The Bigsby equipped model has the blacktop Filtertrons rather than the Broadtrons .
@@jimdeeds Yeah - it seems to have that nice jazzy/soul sound. I should say I've previously tried a green double-cut Streamliner with a Bigsby which I liked - to me it seemed like a very convincing Epi Sheraton/RIviera alternative.
I believe Squire uses Laurel for their fingerboards as well. At least on some models. I have a 2015 model Electromatic double cut hollow body I love every bit as much as my more expensive stuff. I've been wanting to add a Jet ever since. These look really freaking nice and sound great. May have found my next one.
I just purchased that G2420 and man its a beauty. Sounds great and easy to play. I would never have guessed this is one of their lower priced guitars. It’s a work of art for sure.
I have a 2018 5230t in red. Its a great guitar. I can get spanky country tones, warm overdrive les paul tones, very clean or dirty it sounds great. Paid 500 us dollars for it amazing value
Yeah, they messed the specs all up in this vid. They seem to be doing it a lot lately. The Jade Gray G5220 has a hard tail, block inlays, and the Blacktop Broad'Tron pickups. The Aleutian Blue G5230T has a Bigsby, thumbnail inlays, and Blacktop Filter'Tron pickups. The Village Amber G2420 has Broad'Tron BT-2S pickups.
Can I say the G5530T(Bigsby) has different pickups to the G5220(non Bigsby). The Bigsby version has Filtertrons whereas the non Bigsby version has Broadtrons.
I could well buy a Jet this year to go with the FSR G5420T I bought last year. It's less a question of do I want one, and more a question of do I want a hard tail or bigsby? Or perhaps the more important question, the very nice Candy Apple Red to match my existing guitar, or maybe the nice blue. God damm it Pete, I've already bought a guitar this week, now I'm going to be thinking about Jet's all week.
I would like to go for g5220 jade grey, other option is sg 2016 faded, gretsch 450 euros made in china, sg made in usa 600 euros what do you guys recommend ?
