Every time I see one of your minimal phone videos pop up I'm immediately watching it! 🤣 I'm super interested in the minimal phone because I like the idea of going to a more basic device, but have certain apps and features that are required for my day to day that I can't go without (authentication apps, Spotify, maps, 3rd party messaging apps, etc). So seeing this device and their progress is really interesting!
They're using Google Fi? This might be literally the first dumbphone that Google Fi is compatible with. I am impressed. I will consider this hard. Also, Google Fi has physical SIM cards, and is not eSIM exclusive.
I thought this demo was too short - they showed that there is a working prototype, but I don't know if I'll be able to use this phone day-to-day. I did want to see things that I do in a regular day, and am worried the phone might not work well with: like taking photos with the camera, using google maps for navigation, messaging with scrolling and animated gifs, or typing characters that aren't on the keyboard.
This is true. Navigation on e-ink is tricky, especially if you are driving. Special characters are a must when using mutliple languages. I hope it's easy to switch between languages too. I am concerned about the camera and it's usability. The front camera placement is weird to me but I'll have to see it in action. The demo was very short and I'm sure they don't want to show what is not working or extra buggy. Fingers-crossed there will be longer follow-ups.
The Minimal Phone looks gorgeous! The only thing this needs imo is compatibility with Google Maps, because guiding me to a location I've never been to is definitely something most dumb phones alternatives are lacking.
Good take. You can increase the refresh rate of your Boox Palma by removing animations. That's what I think they did on the Minimal phone. They have reduced all animations to absolute minimum. It is "fast." However, it will compromise with some apps and some visuals that people are used to. We'll have to wait and see how it develops.
Thanks Jose. This makes sense why everything looks so much faster. I am good by to remove the animations on my Palma asap! I am hoping they give a more in depth demo soon.
I've been following their development via reddit since it was just a concept. The device will be shipping with Android 13. All android apps will be able available on the Minimal Phone.
I love this concept, id buy one for me and all my family, but what really upsets me is: WHY HASNT ANYONE GOT IT YET IF SUPPOSEDLY THEYRE SHIPPING THE 3rd BATCH!?!?!? Like literally 0 reviews of anyone trying it out or whatever! Is this even real? PLEASE BE REAL!!! 🙏🙏🙏 id love to buy tons of this phones 😓
Thanks for the detailed analysis! It was great to see further progress, but I agree with everyone saying we want to see more. All in due time I guess... I am glad they are taking the necessary time to optimize the e-ink display. Can't wait to type on it!!! 😂
Don't feel bad I couldn't read and could barely see what was being typed. I think the contrast should be increased. The blacks aren't nearly black enough.
Well blow me down. It was good to watch this video by the Minimal Company and it's got to see an actual physical device being used. I guess the OS in the video will not be the actual version that is released when the phone goes out but i have to say i like what i see and think that this device could be something special. I think it's still too expensive for me to justify buying one but look forward to see future developments and actual reviews when it does finally surface.
Yes it was. Funny how a video appeared after mine...At least I had something to focus on today. I don't think I've every reviewed a video frame-by-frame. My poor eyes 😣
@@LauraMalvoyante it was fate I reckon. I bet your eyes suffered doing that. Hope you can rest them now for the rest of the day. You're video really excellent breakdown 👍
What about the navigation button / the trackpad in the middle under the screen ? In the specs they write it is a trackpad, but I see it working only as a home button.
Good question. A lot of people were asking this in their comments. It doesn't look like it has trackpad capabilities or maybe it is something with too many bugs to show yet.
This device is taking shape. It is good that multiple players in the market of minimalist phones are giving us options. Between Mudita, this, and the Light Phone, we are spoilt for choice.
While I love the concept of this phone and prefer it over the Light phone 3, I just don't see it being executed as well. But the Light phone still has a couple unknowns and the price is prohibitive, so the Minimal may have a chance.
Light still to this day gives me OS updates to this day and im on year 4 using the device to me they are trust worthy and i trust they will fix everything and do long many years of OS support as they always do
Mark my words this phone is going to have so many issues, it is a RUSHED project and they are going to be sending out faulty units, mark my words

It's a device a lot of us are curious about and it's something I can't stop thinking about. I am happy others find this topic interesting as well!
I totally fell for it and ordered it.

Yes, I wondered about that comment. I believe it does NOT have E-Sim. Hoping that I am wrong.
I dig this device so much. I'm not an early adopter, but I do want one. Thanks for the updates.

Finally an E-Ink Phone with decent CPU for modern apps

It will have Google Maps. It will have the Google Play store added soon. The only question will be how will Google maps look on the e-ink display.
@@LauraMalvoyante Yeah, that would be really interesting to see :D

I'm really liking the Onyx model. 8 do wonder what accessories will be available.
Someone mentioned they saw cases offered on the website but I couldn't find it.

I would have bought one if it had 5G. I haven’t had good luck with 4G phones near me (Maryland, USA. )

Idk about being more snappy than the palma, this company likely doesn't have the eink software experience/money of boox.
im just gonna wait for chinese knockoffs, way affordable with same specs
