- Don't let us get sick
Don't let us get old
Don't let us get stupid, all right?
Just make us be brave
And make us play nice
And let us be together tonight
The sky was on fire
When I walked to the mill
To take up the slack in the line
I thought of my friends
And the troubles they've had
To keep me from thinking of mine
Don't let us get sick
Don't let us get old
Don't let us get stupid, all right?
Just make us be brave
And make us play nice
And let us be together tonight
The moon has a face
And it smiles on the lake
And causes the ripples in Time
I'm lucky to be here
With someone I like
Who maketh my spirit to shine
Don't let us get sick
Don't let us get old
Don't let us get stupid, all right?
Just make us be brave
And make us play nice
And let us be together tonight
One of the greatest artists in our time. Rest in peace, Zevon.
He wrote it like it is. He wrote songs from his heart. He is still understated in this world.
The world is grim; and beautiful at the same time. Faith= Hope.
Where there is pessimism, worry, pressure, bitterness, uncertainty … let us be filled with “hope and redemption”
Truly, a beautiful song
Rest in peace, Warren Zevon (1947-2003)
Beautifully said.
He belongs in the Rock and Roll HOF!!❤
brings me to tears every single time. thanks for the upload.
Great artist and great song 💯
The lyrics are an unobtainable prayer.
In the unlikely event that anyone ever asks me to say the blessing before a meal, the chorus of this song is what I will say.
What a lovely complement to the hostess of the meal🙂
warren was so far ahead of his time.
This song could not possibly be more relevant than it is right now in 2020.
I miss you Mr. Zevon.
Thank you so much for this Gospel song
No thank you big enough for you Warren. Complete COVID inspirational-comfort found here
Well he kept on going good ole boy
Beautiful- a song that will make you cry.
Miss him!!
Love how you can watch his work change through his career and find peace in certain ideology.
Wow, this was amazing as a live performance.
Normally live performances sound much worse than studio versions, but this was almost as good, shows true raw talent
Probably the only tune of Warren's I've heard where he's not "singing" it .. It's like he is just being 100% himself and talking to someone accompanied by music .. not sure how else to describe it .. Some would call that an "intimate" tune I guess ..
If there is a song for our Coronavirus times, this be it.
No shit!!!
I now end my radio show with this song since COVID
Chiney Commy caused Corona.
A friend sang this for me a few years ago, I let it slip away, until I heard a guy at a guitar store pickin it out last week. I tracked it down today. I'll be singing it from now on. The melody bears a strong resemblance to the traditional whaling song "Farewell to Tarwaithe" which is where Dylan got the melody for "the Times They are a-Changing." Folk process in action.
Oh, thanks for that! I was stumped on what it reminded me of.
God damnit I wish I could have seen him live.
Dear ❤Warren 🎹 I’ll Never NOT Miss You ✨😢✨
Amazing performance!
Beautiful song 🎵 ❤
Both timeless and at the perfect time now❤
Loved this, and I get your sentiments.
I'm very impressed by the pause before "alright" in the chorus. The pause means he's talking to God, in a way. Like - sometimes you have let us get stupid, so please not now - alright?
God doesn't exist. Don't bring that shit here
@@jasehurley4795 He brought it up, not me. But thanks for the insult.
@@jasehurley4795 u may want to change your mind.
Played on The Good Wife, found it here
There is another version of this song that is equal if not better and that would be Jackson Browne singing one of his best friends songs
It’s a Warren Zevon original. Jackson was only doing it as a tribute.
@tangoedupinbooze Yes indeed, Beautiful.
WHEN and WHERE was this performance, please .. ?
I have no idea. Someone sent it to me many years ago with no specifics. It's such a beautiful song.
Apparently recorded 1/00 (or possibly early 2/00), based on his birthday mentioned before he begins his song. @@cdburdick
Hi Sir. I have a favor to ask; can you please upload this entire concert concert to UA-cam (if you have it). I believe that I was the first to upload this show to UA-cam many years ago, but about a month ago, I had a hard drive failure, and lost ALL of my Zevon material. I have posted MUCH Zevon content to UA-cam over the years under various screen names, including LeChuck Threepwood and Clark Ramirez. I have been able to redownload nearly everything I lost though, with the exception of this concert, and Rottweiler Blues live on the Sound FX music program. Anyway, if you can upload this full concert to UA-cam so that I can download it, that would be amazing. Thanks for your time and consideration my friend.
I'm sorry, I don't have this concert. I got this from someone else on UA-cam and edited it to get the appropriate start and stop points. I am so sorry about what happened to your hard drive. I really wish I could help out another Zevon fan, but I am at the mercy of others when it comes to videos. Best of luck in recreating your collection. - Cathy
@@cdburdick Thanks so much Cathy. All the best to you and yours during these trying times.
Hi, sorry to bother you, I was wondering if you ever found the lost footage of this show? Have you tried asking people in groups on Facebook? Zevon's widow runs one called Warren Zevon's library. I may ask about it on there.
Was this when he was already sick.
No, he had not yet been diagnosed when this video was released.
I suspect he was already ill, but perhaps did not know it.
This would have been in January/early February of 2000, and he passed in September of 2003 10 months after his terminal diagnosis
when was this recorded?
Honestly, I don't know. Sorry.
