Mine is 19 she has listened to Warren Zevon her whole life now some of her friends are just discovering him, she looks at them like they're stupid when she finds out they don't know him. Enjoy your daughter these are the best years.
My 6 year old boy sings this in the back seat of the car when it's playing (The Jill Sobule version). First time I heard this I was floored. When a child sings it, you realize it's a mature and wise lullaby. Such a good song.
I use to sing this song to my daughter every night when she was a baby/toddler. She's 9 now, and still requests it sometimes. I can't even begin to express how much that means to me... Thank you Warren! I don't believe in God, but I do believe in Warren Zevon!!
Ah, Warren...YOU " maketh my spirit to shine"! Not long now, and I'll see you again. It's about time....the world's a cold, boring, emptier place with you gone from it.
Stephen King, who arguably is the finest writer of his chosen genre; who isn't exactly known for the brevity of his novels--I cite "IT" and "The Stand"--and therefore might be said to have written SCADS of words, said of this song, "If I could write words like those, I would die a happy man." High praise indeed, coming from The Master of Horror himself. If you'd care for insight into their friendship, and how deeply Warren is missed, read King's dedication of his sequel to "The Shining", "Dr. Sleep". It's an entire paragraph. Is Warren missed? Only like you'd miss your heart if it suddenly vanished ....only that much....Rock the Pillars of Heaven, Mr. Bad Example! I feel Eternity coming nearer every day...
+Brian Grant BRIAN! Thank you for your "Hello"! I can't tell you how much it brightened my day. It's sad, my situation. Oh, not the dying part, truly, for we all do...soon or late. It's that my friends seem to think it is something you can catch, like flu or strep. Nah! It's safe to actually come ,around...but it seems they also fear it's contagious by phone. Lmfao. Actually, I understand. What are they gonna do...discuss Holiday plans with me? I'd love to, but laughing, I guess, is bad form. Wouldn't bother me. Some of em think it's bad taste I have my Halloween stuff out. But it's my favorite holiday. Can't miss it! So I watch WZ on Letterman and get my laffs. ."Squatting Chihuahuas". Priceless! As for you, my friend...KEEP that busy schedule! ENJOY every sandwich! And thanks so much again. You made my day. . Kat Harper, Rabid Zevonite! ;-) to the end.
I believe Stephen King also called "We Can't Make It Here" the best protest song since Bob Dylan. There's a lot I could say about his writing, but I like his taste in music ;)
thank you for this post. you have blessed me this Sunday Morning before church. I am working on a sermon based on this and the Lords Prayer. God Speed Warren Rev. Dave

Wow--what a great job you did with this. Thank you so much for posting this tribute. I just heard the song for the first time this morning, on KFOG's Acoustic Sunrise with , where I often hear my brand-new, never-before-heard favorites....and this is one of them--how could it not? With gratitude and awe for the simple candor and revelation in the song and your recognition of it, Namaste, Pam
Splendid Isolation I don't need no one............what every artist reaches for........I am always humbled in his presentce......and I mean it in my bones; Don't want nuttin to do with you.......
Don't Let Us Get Sick, Warren Zevon. It was off his last album: "Life Will Kill Ya." I saw him live two years before his death. When he died it hit me like a freight train. The link, is to an audio intro of Warren actually discussing the song, it's awesome. Kind of like a ghost, hearing Warren speaking, thank you for sharing that.
"Life Will Kill Ya" was his 10th album, released on 25 January 2000. "My Ride's Here" was his 11th album, released on 7 May 2002. He received his cancer diagnosis some time after the Edmonton Music Festival in Canada, which was held in August 2002. "The Wind" was his 12th and final album, released on 26 August 2003 - he passed on 7 September 2003.
Thank you for the post Mr. Darren Williams i listen to it a lot . I don't feel compelled to comment every time however i want you to know sir it means a lot to me Quite simply May God bless You And Yours!! Take Good Care Of yourself Sir.Yes i do have it on Cd however this way your post i like better THANKS AGAIN
@Darren Williams. I have always described this song as part hymn and part lullaby. As I am not familiar with “Preludes", even though I know they exist , I have some work to do in listening to them. Thank you for this contribution.
This is genius. The tune Warren's playing between the verses isn't the same one he's singing! It's "Bonnie Doon," an ancient Scottish tune, one of the ones I was raised on. Why didn't I think of that?? (I know, I know: because I'm not Warren Zevon.)
"Life'll Kill Ya" wasn't his last album... it was released in 2000, he later released "My Ride's Here" in 2001, and his final album, written and recorded after he knew he was dying, "The Wind" in 2003.
What's funny? Why? ANYWAY -- could I beseech parrothead04578 upload "Nightime in the Switchin' Yard" from the Exciteable Boy album? Someone else did, but they're both 'live' concerts and it's not the same, natch. It's the first cut on the Exciteable Boy album. Thanks very much.......... you WILL be blessed for acts of kindness such as this.
He wasnt "grounded" in the faith. that's not to say he didn't believe in God, but obviously God wasn't always there for him, or at least the lyrics of his songs would lead anyone to think so.
Difficult to imagine Warren gone over 16yrs... thanks for another gem,
meaningful to us here in these covid times...

Oh, Warren, what a beauty you were. Honesty is rare on this planet.
Ah, Warren...YOU " maketh my spirit to shine"! Not long now, and I'll see you again. It's about time....the world's a cold, boring, emptier place with you gone from it.
Thanks eternally for the thousands of hours of music, laughter and reflection. Priceless!
It has been 9 years since we lost Warren. It seems like yesterday. This song is one of the best songs ever written.
Even tough guys pray. Godspeed to Genius. Thanks for all of the vivid stories.
Keep this in your memory gospel ! God bless Warren Zevon........he knew humanity
alright.
It's now a life of chronic pain that I am most grateful for; prepared me for this
@ Mathew . Take care and stay well. I too.
My favorite song. Thank you Warren. ❤❤❤
It's a prayer and a blessing. Few songs accomplish this.
This is the prettiest song I've ever heard as i get older. ❤

So poignant, now, so relevant. Therefore, it has the truth in it. it endures and it is beautiful.
As much as I love "Keep me in your heart", this MIGHT just be a better final goodbyes songs, even if it wasn't intended as one.
I certainly can relate to this song I suffer constantly..sad but true..RIP to W.Z , god bless you!

Rest in peace Warren.
Thank you.
Hope there's at least some humans who can comprehend what Warren Zevon is telling
us.

I recognize the voice of Jody Denburg (sp?)as the interviewer. What a wonderful version :)
I didn't know that but glad to hear it. Thx. :D
i have to put him on the level of tom waits--he knew no boundries.
