“Jean-Luc, I heard you. Don’t push it away.” God, it was so tender, intimate and sweet the way she said that. Being understood and not having to explain it further. I think I’d melt if a woman said something like that to me.
Same here; all things considered, they seemed to fit perfectly together.... still, with Star Trek Picard Season 3 finally giving limelight to Beverly later, even if it's slim, the possibility of them becoming a genuine couple is still there. n.n
@@randomrazr What has that got to do with anything? You can have a kid and still not be a couple. Actually, having offspring is usually the end of relationship. There's nothing more to "achieve" just wait for death.
Not so much to be a captain, but since she was married to his best friend. Of course, a captain typically has to maintain some distance from the crew, but still.
I loved this scene entirely. The dialogue fits so well here. Picard stating he thought it was hormone, passion, lust desire... but explaining it in his own proper way. And as for Crusher, if you ever told someone your feelings knowing they were not likely to be reciprocated... well; that is how the person reacts. Awe and care, surprise, sorrow and a confusing joy, pride and sadness at the sametime
Near the end of this episode, Picard did ask Crusher if she would like to date and they shouldn’t be afraid now they both know how they each felt for one another. Crusher declined him because they’re now afraid it may jeopardize their friendship if the relationship doesn’t go well.
Also, how would the relationship not go well when they already ARE LOVERS who just haven’t explored one another in a new sensual (meaning physical-touch, kiss, exclusive bringing bliss to each other) kind of way? Only thing different is they realize and admit. 💚
I always felt like this was the writers wimping out. They had already set up an intimacy between the two over multiple episodes with them discussing things over breakfast or tea... times when Picard wasn't the captain and was just "Jean Luc."
@@stuntmonkey00 part of it is that you can blame on the fact that I think TNG was about to make the transition to the movies and they wanted Picard to be somewhat like James Bond in that he would have different lady friends throughout the planned movie series. That would partially explain Insurrection.
"Jean-Luc, I heard you. Don't push it away. When I said, 'Jack and I,' I felt this sudden wave of...something. I didn't know you felt that way." "Didn't you?" "I-I guess I always knew that there was...an attraction between us right, from the start, but I never knew how strongly you felt...Why didn't you ever tell me you were in love with me?"
I think Insurrection would have been greatly improved if this was revisited - but I'm not sure how it would fit into the story (it needed to be rewritten anyways).
So this debunks any theories that somehow Wesley was Jean Luc’s son. They were never physically intimate! But in fairness he was a father figure for Wesley. A shame Wesley never became more than an ensign. Being the metaphorical son of Jean Luc would still have carried some heavy weight in the federation’s eyes.
Picard and Crusher marry in the future and found a lot of comfort and laughter together because of their friendship. Happened in one of the paperbacks, don’t recall title though...

Beverly Crusher was, if anything, OVERqualified for the position of CMO on the Federation flagship. She could have been a ship's CAPTAIN .... if she wanted to. She could have been the head of Starfleet Medical .... if she wanted to. Picard. Riker. Data. Crusher. hell .... LaForge, too ....... they were beyond the best at their skill sets. Deanna Troi, along with the ship's counselor (not an easy feat in itself, on the Federation flagship), was also supposed to be a contact liaison when the ship encountered new species (which was the INITIAL purpose of the Enterprise-D). and Worf ... for all the bad beats he took ... was great at protecting his ship.
Probably moot to tell you this now after a year, but here goes anyway: This episode is one of those that focuses in character exposition and development. From the beginning, we as the viewers noticed some kind of unspoken bond between Picard and Crusher. In a previous episode, we learn part of the story, being that Crusher's husband was a friend of Picard that died years ago, and because of that Picard brought her to the Enterprise and is the reason he has been so supportive to Weasley and so implicated in his education. In this episode, we learn that it was a little deeper than just Crusher being "His friend's wife" and also a reason why at the beginning was somewhat nervous around her while others he appreciated having her close. With time, that feeling stopped being so problematic and ended up disappearing, accepting her as just a friend. Still, that doesn't mean he stopped feeling guilty about having loved her while the husband was still alive. Crusher finally knowing this and him finally being able to explain it probably answers some of her questions about Picard that were a mystery until then, he has lifted some weight from his shoulders and both of them have bonded some more in the mutual understanding they shared. This does not bring anything to the general plot of the show, but it helps the audience to empathize more and better with the characters.

how could he even begin to know what’s “likely “ in someone’s heart? You know they say, closed mouth never gets fed.
