Very clever using the scraping technique to “age” the painted panels. Totally correct. Adding paint would have gone the wrong direction. I have learned so much watching these videos. Patience. Attention to detail. Sometimes less is more, but sometimes you have to simply do more. Wonderful work! Thank you.
Thank you!
Chili you are the man. Your attention to detail is astounding. Congratulations on an amazing build video!
Thank you!
Excited to finally see it in person, thanks Sam for taking on this project. It’s been great watching it go together in your videos, looks amazing. I wish you the very best in life and hope everything works out for you in your new job.
Thank you! I'm excited for you too. 😁
I must confess that at first i was disappointed that you hadn't used any washes to bring out all the panel lines and greables etc,
but when i started watching your final reveal of the Falcon it suddenly dawned on me, OMG you have copied the original film model down to the very last fine detail, and of cause the original did not have any washes.
For this reason alone i must bow my head in respect and congratulate you on what could be the most realistic and accurate version of the New Hope Millennium Falcon ever built!
You my friend have not only lived up to my expectations, you have surpassed them!!
May the force be with you always.
Thank you! Yeah there's no wash on the studio model at all, so I did the same!
After viewing all your beautiful builds i Really think you should change your YT channel to
ModelChilli Fine Scale Models
lol maybe!
Thank you for not over weathering the ship. I see so many that look like they dropped it in a pool of mud and then didn’t bother to clean it off. Hats off to you, sir!
Thank you!
I really in joyed the whole build series.
Awesome job Sam. Your patience and attention to detail, superb.
Thanks Mel. :)
Bang up job mate! I appreciate your thoroughness and patience, especially with the fact that life tends to get in the way at times.
Wow! Really loved this series of videos. Your level of detail and accuracy is amazing. Thanks for the great videos.
Cheers! And that's for watching. :)
The Falcon looks great!!!
Good luck on the new job!
Thank you!
Fantastic build! I'm always impressed by your skills.
Thank you!
Stunningly beautiful model and a brilliant build.
Thank you!
Great job! Very informative on watching how you do you weathering and painting very inspiring ! Cant wait to give one of Bandi kits ago mysellf ,keep pumping out these awesome vids!
Thank you!
Beautiful job, I really liked watching this build!
Amazing work as always and congrats on the new job working for my other favorite hobby field.
Cheers!
I have to congratulate you on finishing it! It looks amazing! You are a very dedicated individual... you sure get whatever project you're working on complete in a short time. It's disappointing you don't get to keep it, but I'm sure you had a blast making it. Thanks for continuing to make great content sir!
Thank you, I really appreciate it! Yeah I'll miss it, but I wouldn't even know where to put it if I had one myself.
Yeah, it really is rather large. At least you have the smaller TFA Falcon.
Beautiful job, Sam!
Thank you :D
The Bandai AT-AT arrived today. Excited to get started
That looks beautiful. Hope everything works for you and all the best.
Thank you!
Congratulations on the new job!
Thanks!
I'm a little late to the party! I really enjoyed your build and how you explained the process you followed to finish a stunning model. I have this kit in my stash and will definitely refer back to this series when I have the confidence and skill to tackle it.
Thank you! I'm glad these videos are helpful. 🙂
Good job Modelchilli!
The Falcon looks perfect, just like the studio model..
I've really enjoyed this series of videos and am looking forward to your next project.
Best of luck with your new job. :)
Thanks Vaughan. :)
Glad to finally see this project finished! It came out looking incredible!
Also, welcome to the video game industry :) I’m delighted to have you join the ranks!
Thank you!
Superb paint job.
I've seen many efforts of this particular model kit and I can honestly say that your rendition is the closet colour palette to the New Hope version that I've seen.
Most others look more like the Empire Strikes back version with a set of landing gear missing.
great work👍
Thank you! I did work hard to achieve the colours of the studio model.
Hey Chili, for the lack of security on the kit supplied stand, use "rare earth magnet's" Just make sure you leave just a small gap between them as they are so strong if you allow them to make contact they are tough to separate. Beautiful build by the way!!
Congrats man, that's a beautiful job! Bet it's going to be hard to say goodbye to that one.
Thank you!
Wow, amazing work!! Beautiful build. Congratulations on the new job as well.
Thanks :D
best of luck to you on your new endeavor!
Cheers :)
G'day from across the Tasman.
Fantastic build!
Thank you!
Looks great!
Thanks!
Yes, I think so too👍✌
You are very talented! Very impressive 😊
Thank you!
Excellent! Simply beautiful. Got a new subscriber!
Thanks :D
Absolutely amazing!
Thanks!
beautiful job you did looks amazing
Thanks!
Damn this looks amazing! I've always wanted a model of the Falcon with this level of detail, but I've never had the tools/patience to paint and weather it properly. I wish I had the money to commission one of these from you, but I don't even want to guess how much it would cost! (but it really would be worth every dime)
You're a cool guy. Very good work.
Cheers!
Congrats to your new job! :-)
Wow.....great work.
Cheers!
Epic build!
Cheers!
The falcon looks fantastic just how It should be!
Cheers!
One thing I forgot to mention was that I sealed in the weathering using Vallejo Model Air Matt Varnish.
looks really good mate love the work you do is it true that ILM used flat white paint over a black undercoat on the filming models? the colour on the falcon looks white more than i grey same as the ILM models
Thanks! I'm not sure how they painted it exactly. The base colour I used was a mix of Vallejo Model Air White Grey and Aged White.
@@modelchili I think it looks beautiful mate !
Did the varnish affect the Tamiya weathering master pigment you used for the streaking?
Nice job and you will find another job soon I will pray for you 👍
Thanks, I did find one! 😁
Wonderful
Absolutely stunning! Amazing job, never seen so much detail this close up, it's a beautiful casting.
Gratz on the new job also, good luck sir
Thank you!
Great job the real deal it looks so much like the new hope version that's just my view.
Thanks!
Looks awesome! And all the best in your new job!\
Thank you!
Question, after applying the decals on the cockpit of the Falcon, why do you have to drill the holes on the gray doors and on the back of the panels? Is it to let the LED's lights in? If so, what kinds of drilling tools did you use in making the Falcon?
Part 7?! Damn it UA-cam why didn't you alert me to parts 1-6? The mysteries of UA-cam I guess.
Oh well at least I can watch them in a marathon viewing.
Ahh UA-cam's algorithms strike again.
Nice job!!
Thanks!
Yes, I also like great work as always👍✌
Been busy recently with other things, so completely missed this vid... But might I say well done, this is one of the cleanest builds i have seen, and the paintjob looks great!
Next time you do a star wars build, you gonna attempt a 1/144 death star attack by bandai? It's an amazing diorama.
Thank you! Hmm it's certainly an option.
How wonderful! I scraping on the painted areas worked great, but I was a little surprised that you looked at the decals when doing it. Since the decals themselves are an attempt at copying the model, then your copy of them would be a copy of a copy. Seems you'd be better off looking directly at photos of the model when scraping. But nonetheless great job! Thanks for the video :)
Great job
Cheers!
Just gathering tips from around the different videos on this build before my Falcon turns up later this month (I hope). Yours are by far the best ones in my opinion. Having said that, did you consider using Liquid Mask or Humbrol Maskol to do the chipping on the coloured panels instead of scraping off the paint? I'm asking because the Liquid Mask looks like a very effective way of doing it but there must be a good reason why you didn't do it? What am I missing?
Cheers! I've just never used Liquid Mask so never really thought about it.
Nice job thanks I'm building the same one now and I'm at the same place as you on it 👍
Thanks!
I just finished mine !!
Fantastic work!!! Do you have a link to those reference photos?
Cheers! They're here: onedrive.live.com/?id=2562E103EE4C3F24%21107&cid=2562E103EE4C3F24
What are some of the challenges that you have in painting the PG Falcon? Did you find it hard to do it? and second the installation of the LED lights and untangling of the wires itself, was it also difficult as well?
The challenges were getting the right colours mainly, everything else was pretty simple once you take it step by step. And the LEDs were a breeze to install.
Amazing!!
Thanks!
I looks exactly like the piece of junk Luke described. Good job!
Thanks!
Awesome thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Love it Sam, so many falcons get battered with weathering that they lose their soul, one of the best I've seen, happy modelling dude, respect, Tim the primered thumb
😁👍
Thanks Tim!
Love the work
Just a question where do you get your model kits in New Zealand cause I’m up in New Plymouth and we don’t have anywhere that sells them
Cheers! This was sent to me by my client, however I have seen it for sale in NZ, on Trade Me and the Pop Stop here in Christchurch.
ModelChili Scale Models thanks for the reply you should do some more custom clone troopers I loved the comander gree video
superb
Thanks!
Just wondering the studio scale model was made with a Cummins Powered decal on one of the mandibles, does the Bandai kit represent that?
Well there's no way for me to check now. You could go over the photos I have on FB to see if it's there: facebook.com/pg/ModelChili/photos/?tab=album&album_id=881739995352238
Admire your patience !!!
Thanks!
Cool millennium falcon
Cheers!
One thing I've always wondered about the exhaust, even on the models used in the movies. It's the direction of the exhaust marks. Wouldn't air flow passing over the haul make the marks move more in a straight light back, instead of flaring out to the sides? I don't know, just asking. Can anyone clarify if there are directional vents on the exhaust that would cause the marks to stray left and right instead of straight back.
Well think about it this way: there's no airflow in space. If an exhaust vent blows waste in a certain direction it'll stick to that direction no matter the direction the ship travels in. Having said that, the vents do blow straight back, it just looks like they don't.
So for the weathering powder, did you put a matte clear coat down first and then apply the powder or did you just apply the powder then apply a clear coat after.
I always apply the Tamiya weathering master over a gloss coat, it makes it much easier to clean up and modify. It would stick to a dull coat like glue. I applied a flat coat over the weathering once it was done.
@@modelchili Understood. Thanks for the advice. I'm just starting in the whole weathering my models thing so the advice is much appreciated. Especially since I have the 1/144 scale Millennium Falcon kit that I plan to paint and attempt to weather.
I have a query, the thinner does not lift the base paint? Or have you laid varnish? with which you dilute the varnish? in the minute 14:37
The clear coat is Tamiya Clear Coat from a can, which is a lacquer not affected by acrylic thinner. That's how I protect the paint underneath.
Mint that mate
Thanks!
WOW! Very well done! Thank you for sharing.
Thanks!
I wonder why u not doing any panel lining?
The original filming model didn't have any panel lining, so I decided to replicate that.
You’d think a Japanese company would make very shake proof stands...
I like it. Great weathering!!
Thanks!
How did you obtain the detailed images used for reference?
I used google. Here ye go: onedrive.live.com/?id=2562E103EE4C3F24%21107&cid=2562E103EE4C3F24
My brother n law is from Christchurch awesome!!!!!!
Cool!
Wish I had your patience
Some blue tack on the stand should help
Hmm might do, I'd be worried about it affecting the paint though.
... great build but there appears to be no consistency to the smoke plumes directions...
Magnifique travail mon ami
Excellente explication
Magnificent work my friend
Excellent explanation
Good Technik of painting 👍
Thank you!
This looks amazing! Did you see the new Bandai R2 with rocket boosters, am electro-prod, oil applicator arm, and spacecraft linkage and controle arms? If you get it and build Artoo or make your own astromech, or even a random astromech then I'd love to see what you do! R4-I9 looks really cool too!
Thanks! Yes I have, would love to build them.
Nice. But I dont think you pre-shaded enough. Looks too white.
Thatz pretty descent gertrude
I want to build this but I know NOTHING about painting - I wonder if I could pay someone else to paint it nicely for me? :)
Sure, you can pay me!
Jesus, that thing is huge...
Nanyjji Fotografie And this is 1:72 scale. You can buy a 1:43 Falcon model kit. Only $1,500.
Slap some paint on there boii.. grind some dirt in those cracks...cry havoc and release those inhibitions..have at er. Lol
Hmm maybe not lol
ModelChili Scale Models.. still an awesome job
The small vents behind the 6 big vents are just the rear engine deck of a panther
Yep!
Is that the finish product, it still looks too plasticky by the way.
Well it is made of plastic!
Thing o beauty..... It's better than The Last Jedi.
Thanks! 😂
I really wish these videos were in order. I went frompart 2 to this. Could not find part 3...None of them past part 2 are labeled as part 3, part, 4...I'm turning this off. I want to see the finished product, but I want to see how you got there. I'm just NOT going to search for part 3, 4, etc..especially without labels.
Add spam is making me mad too in the middle of the search.
I give up dude. You must not care which order your videos run or if people get frustrated and leave your channel, so if you don't care, I don't care.
Here ya go mate: ua-cam.com/video/RTYAxmiFm9E/v-deo.html
The other parts you saw were the second Falcon I did after this.
Fanfuckingtastic.
Thanks!
