So here is a little explaination for those who are a bit confused about what is happening: in this video we can see a PvP battle taking place between two players. The opponent is playing some sort of mage build, but one thing is important to point out: he is not trying hard, because he is wearing something that looks like a witches attire yet does nothing instead of the so called Crown of Dusk headgear which would boost the magic damage by 20% yet look really cringe. But at least he does use one of the more powerfull and effective damage spells in the game, the Dark Bead which has a very short casting time and fires a bunch of projectiles in front of the character in a cone which also travel extremely quick and deal devastating damage in close/mid range. Unfortunately we dont know if his character has the stats or the items which would be necessary to deal damage since he never actually dealt any damage to his opponent which I come to next. The player who recorded the clip is running a very efficient to the degree of min/maxing build with his armor, weapon, rings and stats. From the stats we see an unusually big investment into the endurance stat which increases the amount of stamina as well as increasing the maximum capacity of equipment load. In Dark Souls 1 there are three tiers of mobility of the character depending on the percentage of the maximum equipment load which is being used by the character to wear his armor pieces and weapons/shields: the under 25% allows the character to have the most mobility with the longest rolls which give second most i-frames and very quick recovery, the between 25%-50% mid roll which is shorter, gives two less i-frames than the fast roll while having an almost 35% longer recovery and finally between 50% up to 100% of the equip load the fat roll which travels the shortest distance, gives the least amount of i-frames and has a devastatingly long recovery time, twice that of the fast roll. Now we see the character wearing some absurdly bulky armor while wielding an improbably large club as a weapon, literally the size of his opponent or ever larger, so you might think that he should be fat rolling, yet that is not the case. As I mentioned earlier, his character has an unusually big endurance stat investment which increases the maximum equip load. On top of that one of the rings he is wearing is the Havel's Ring which increases the maximum equipment load further by another 50%. In the end his character end up being able to wear and carry his armor and armaments while staying under 25% equip load in the "fast rolling" interval which becomes important with the second ring he switches to on the fly (literally within a fraction of a second): the Dark Wood Grain Ring which only affects players who are in the fast rolling range of equipment load as our character is. Its effects change the normal animations and movements during the rolls to a set of acrobatic movements (like cartwheels we see and so on) while making the distance traveled during the rolling animation even longer, giving two additional i-frames while reducing the amount of recovery frames by twice that amount. What we end up having is a quite heavy armored and armed character with superior mobility. Now what the video really is about is the ring swap the player performed mid fight. Initially he was wearing a Hornet Ring which increases damage of critical hits like backstabs or ripostes by whole 30% but as soon as his opponent began casting spells and approaching him he within a fraction of a second swapped the Hornet Ring with the Dark Wood Grain Ring to have the extra mobility which he flawlessly utilized by dodging 4 casts of the most oppressive close/mid range spell in the game (the Dark Bead). That alone was impressive enough, but what came next really took the cake. When our player decided to himself go in then his plan was to quickly close the distance to his enemy and behind his back and to go for a backstab. So he quickly swapped the Hornet Ring BACK to have the damage buff should he land his backstab and because the status of the item effects are being updated in short intervals of roughly every 2/3 of a second, he was still being affected by the Dark Wood Grain Ring and therefore still able to perform long rolls despite already wearing the Hornet Ring. So effectively his finger dexterity allowed his to use three rings for a fraction of a second. And as we all can see, he succeeded. Before his opponent could react he rolled behind his back which was only possible with the expiring Dark Wood Grain Ring and he then dealt a critical hit via a backstab with enhanced damage from the effects of the Hornet Ring one-shotting his opponent. GOD DAMN! That was sick! On top of that his opponent suffered 3 points of emotional damage and has been recovering his ego by getting gud ever since.
because the status of the item effects are being updated in short intervals of roughly every 2/3 of a second, he was still being affected by the Dark Wood Grain Ring and therefore still able to perform long rolls despite already wearing the Hornet Ring.
Thank you for the detailed insight, I saw how quickly he changed his ring and was amazed at his speed and your detailed analysis brought me a great understanding and perspective on what was happening better than what I was viewing before. THANK YOU!!
THICC fashion. I had a build that was 135 full smoughs i think with mom mask and large club. Fat character ofc. It used havel’s ring and I would just use the flip ring as kinda my main ring just cuz it looked so ridiculous.😂
Smartest Dark Bead spammer vs. Average Duelist be like
average cheesestab prodigy getting dark beaded by the guy who knows that you can adjust aim for dark bead while casting
0:19 You may not like it but this is what peak performance looks like.
Love it when it does that. Hate it when you don't flip after you put it on though.
Big Momma and Giant Dad need to be a duo-boss fight.
