@@johnflorio3576 Sure he cut the Eastern Catholic Churches loose because they were too much trouble for him as they rebelled against having to have freestanding altars.
So it's no loss to him to renounce universal jurisdiction which btw comes at a price in that he committed apostasy and heresy by renouncing one of the most foundational dogmas of the Roman Church: Papal Supremacy.
From this day on, the Catholic Church is no more(33-2024 RIP). However, the remnants of the Catholic Faith(which is the Catholic Church esp. now) continue to thrive in sedevacantist traditionalist independent Catholic parishes around the globe that are not affiliated with Francis.

@@Montfortracing Nope, the liturgical reform was an impoverishment of the liturgy, taking away many parts of its beautiful heritage. And Pope Francis has a clear history of refusing to condemn heresy openly, he allows the ex president that approved abortion in his nation to friendly visit the vatican, he created the whole Amoris Leatitia bogaloo by not being clear from the start that the couple should have a commitement to absolute continence. He created the current problem with Fiducia by not saying with all words that the couple needs to intend to stop their romantic relationship and immoral sexual acts. And let us not forget his letter to Cdl Fernandez saying the DDF shouldn't be condemnative.
Good comment. The return of this title is a very good sign. God bless.
@@Montfortracing No, the liturgical reform was an improverishment of the liturgy, not an enrichment. The liturgical patrimony of the Roman Rite was thrown into the dustbin of eclesiatical history. Canon, offertory, prayers at the foot of the altar, last gospel, gradual, many parts of the Roman Rite were simply thrown away and replaced, or at best sidelined
@@Montfortracing And His Holiness is deliberately ambiguous, he refuses to use condemnative language and that becomes clear above all in his letter to Cdl Fernandez about the DDF, and more explicitly so in Fernandez answer to that. Many scandals happened because he refuses to simply speak harshly against the enemies of the Church, in Amoris he wasn't clear in the document itself a commitement to absolute continence was necessary for the couples to receive the sacranents. In Fiducia he didn't explicitly command an end to the romantic relationships. There is a clear aversion to an intellectually clear and rigid theology in this Pontificate, and it has damaged millions of souls.
It should be Patriarch of Rome.
Rome is one of the five patriarchates.
Patriarch of Rome is equal to the Patriarch of the West, because the Bishop of Rome is the only patriarch in the Western hemisphere, at least for the ancient Christians.

And here lies the fundamental, well, most fundamental, reason unity cannot happen right now. The Bishop of Rome has no theological superiority over the other Bishops. Practical power? Sure. The only way the Catholic and Orthodox churches can reunite is if the Pope’s fully and completely cease claiming authority as the highest patriarch or primus inter pares of all the bishops and patriarchs of Christendom.
These steps, of claiming to be the Bishop of Rome and Patriarch of the West, are promising. The Orthodox Church, however, will never sublimate itself to Rome’s authority. The Bishop of Rome would be one of the many bishops and patriarchs of the Church, all of whom would have a voice in the ecumenical councils.
I think we need another Ecumenical Council, bringing in the Catholic and Orthodox and Syrian and other branches to finalize the remerger of our denominations.
that's actually a VERY good idea. we gotta do another ecumenical council, make a massive christian alliance between the denominations. amazing! :]
Sick of all the politics,,I just go to church that too not very regularly😂
@@Damian_69_ yea!
An Ecumenical Council would be great. If only the Orthodox would accept another one though, because in all the previous ones they had been defeated and then turned to schismastic heretics. Gotta wonder why the Orthodox keep making "pan-Orthodox synods" instead of staying true to their word and seeking a proper council.
That's impossible as it would be in direct contradiction to church dogmas:
143. Christ appointed the Apostle Peter to be the first of all the Apostles and to be the visible head of the whole Church, by appointing him immediately and personally to the primacy of jurisdiction.
144. According to Christ’s ordinance, Peter is to have successors in his Primacy over the whole Church and for all time.
145. The successors of Peter in the Primacy are the bishops of Rome.
146. The Pope possesses full and supreme power of jurisdiction over the whole Church, not merely in matters of faith and morals, but also in Church discipline and in the government of the Church.

@@drjanitor3747 God forgive our fighting and prejudices. But I don’t see what’s schismatic about doing what Jesus asked of us. The schismatic Catholik are not worthy of any title
That would be contradicting church dogmas as the pope holds supreme power of jurisdiction, explicitly including the government of the church which appointing patriarchies would fall under (besides this simply being a reintroduction of the use of the title, not forming a new patriarchy)
143. Christ appointed the Apostle Peter to be the first of all the Apostles and to be the visible head of the whole Church, by appointing him immediately and personally to the primacy of jurisdiction.

I have felt for years that he was ging this way, reducing the supremacy of the See of Peter and that will be a good thing. Peter's seat was traditional the tie-breaker and last word, not the monarchy that western Catholics (and I am one, proudly LatinRite) madde it into. The Pope can still be the first among equals without assuming all the extras that we have added through the years,. In this I think the Eastern Church has some true points. He is doing this not so uch to appease the Easterners as to set affairs right FIRST in the church of his birth, then the Orthodox might pay attention. They need the Western churches evangelical zeal and organised and extensive social action for the gospel, we need the deep spiritaul development, reverence and readiness for martyrdom that they have developed since the break. God bring us home together.
We got very reactionary in the 19th cent after the French Revolution and the napoleonic wars. St John Henry Newman saw this and wrote about it. I hope you’re right and this is at last the corrective

Bishop Barron did a lecture on that book which u can find on UA-cam which explains it in more detail
Okay, but Papal Infallibility has been infallibly defined. If we give that up, we're giving up 2000 years of Catholic understanding about how the Chair of Peter works. In other words, we're converting to Orthodoxy. I am not in favor of that.
@@gunsgalore7571 there’s a middle ground between becoming schismatic and denying the definition of Papal Infallibility and maintaining the same insularity of the 18th/19th cent church reeling from the loss of the Papal States. That middle ground in practice is the conciliarity of VII and the regular episcopal synods held since and the synodality of Francis. These are slowly returning to the idea of Rome as court of last appeal or the key facilitator of a wider process of doctrinal and canon law discernment as was the case through the Middle Ages
A positive step for coming unity

It's one of the Supreme Pontiff's many titles that appear in Annuario Pontificio. This title was deleted from that publication beginning in 2006 upon instructions of then Pope Benedict XVI. If the Latin Church wants to be back in communion with the Church, the pope would have to repeal hundreds of years of heresies and would need to be willing to come back as the See of Least Honor placing it below all of the current Patriarchs-not just the the others that existed when they broke communion with the Church that Jesus founded.
Uhh...pretty sure none of the Patriarchs of the Orthodox Church agreed to this so I'm not sure what the point is here.
This is awful. People need laws and justice. Not church rule
Only because he thinks it will weaken the universality of the Church.
If Pope of the Catholic church is Patriarch of the West, who is the Patriarch of the East?
East has Constantinople, Coptic and Antiochian Patriarchs as old Patriarchates. Many others also were formed in the later centuries.
Bartholomew I of Constantinople is the leader of Eastern Orthodox Church, but they/we also have Antioch, Jerusalem & Alexandria/Oriental Orthodox.
East, West, wasn't this some division over a thousand years back? My history isn't that good
By title, Antioch is the Patriarch of all of the East. However in the East, Constantinople is the Ecumenical Patriarch
