Imagine an attack where only the actual sharp bit of the bodypart in motion has a hitbox.
Either max evade window or they simply have hit boxes turned off for the weapon reel videos. It’s their game you know they can turn damage off
@@EdSoCeRiAl I don't believe this demonstration is modified like that, nor is that because of an Evasion skill. The hitbox on that move simply works as shown. Only the tip of the tail covered in ice will hit you during that attack, but the rest of the tail doesn't, which is why evading inward is actually a great way to avoid that attack and punish with some easy hits of your own.
"Unga bunga" those were the last words he said before pushing me out of the way of an oncoming tigrex charge. I still dont know what he means to this day

They really did the optimal thing and canceled Zero Sum Discharge early. Only true Switch Axe mains understand it.

I am more suprised to see him ED into claw to quick amp with proper placement right after regain of ground. It's a tad sad to see the claw still failing to clutch onto the body part you actually are hitting e_e

Switchaxe main here. I understood it and counter with MAXIMUM ZERO SUM TIL I DIE BAYBEEEEE.
Fun fact: the switch axe he/she wielded, mighty gear iii, is the only (branch of) switch axe with the unique dragon phial in the game, hence the unusual red colour when amped. Other colours include orange for power phial, yellow for paralysis phial, green for elemental phial and blue for exhaust phial

Fahkurmam it always bothered me that games will teach you to use a bunch of fun mechanics. Then take it all away for the end game in the name of a “challenge”.
It’s one thing if some immunities actually make sense, but blanket bans on certain strategies really ruins a game.
I miss games which actually let you be powerful when you’ve earned it at the end game.

Actually fell in love with that weapon during Iceborne.
I was a DB main until I met Shreiking Legiana and no one was willing to help me with it. I genuinely had to learn how to use Switch axe just to beat that b*stard. I haven't used Dual blades since. Switch axe is love, switch axe is life.

I am a DB main and, true, for DB Shrieking Legiana is difficult. But if not for speedrun there’s actually a very comfortable (not efficient by any mean) to beat it: DB is a fast weapon, and use the speed to remove the ice coat by quickly attacking different parts of Legiana. Without ice coat Shrieking is actually weaker than regular Legiana (or equally strong, depends on different playstyle).
With elementary equipments (e.g. Nargacuga sets and any weapon), you should be able to beat it with about 15 minutes, and with full damage fire element build this should take less than 10 minutes. DB can do a lot more than people think it can, try pick it up one day if you feel like dual-wielding again XD

@@Eric-dt7bt If it was just the Shreiker, I would have been fine with DB but base Legiana bloody starts popping up everywhere as well where ever Shrieker goes. Even the Dung pods are useless as he comes back after a minute.

Maybe? Granted some of the weapon vids like these have questionable points in them. I usually hunt at range so have also never been super close to Velkhana to know how that hitbox works in super close range.

the hitbox on that tail is just the spike, his positioning was just right for him not to get hit by it.
Nothing wrong about it, think of it as a piercing attack, the hitbox is only the tip of the tail which goes over the hunter there.
Watch at 0.25 playback speed and you can see the character actually gets jerked a bit. Mind where the feet are in position to the gap between the ice floes.

No, the hitbox only lasts for a short time while the ice is being formed.
By far the Best Weapon.

Charge blade is hands down the best weapon in the game. The fact that it has a shield alone already makes it better than switch axe

Some say you become the swag when you use the swag axe.
that move was really impressive can someone explain how they did it? when they hit the head and mounted.
When you have over half of your swaxe gauge built up and start the discharge, you can build up the other half in the animation and then press left trigger to clutch onto the monster mid-animation. From there just press y+b and you'll do the zero sum discharge attached to the monster.
Out of all these short clip gameplay, the insect glaive yet still looked the coolest

@@7_Siete well to each their own. I main GreatSword, HuntingHorn and Bow. Couldn't really include switchaxe because the axe part reminds me of the ugliest GSwords. But I always love to have a switch axe main in my party so I can hear that shooting sound with the boom at the end.
I’m not a “main” kind of player, but if I had to choose, it would probably be the Switch Axe.

I have never used the weapon this way before.
Probably the best part of swaxe, you get to do whatever mix of combos and form that you want.
@Roach Dogg Jr nah man, I mean the flinch shot then retreat and also I never have used the clutch claw while using the element discharge. I never knew about the latter.
@@dad5draco the flinch shot is used to turn in axe mode or evade by shooting yourself far backwards during a wild swing to counter with a morph attack. I'm surprised they didn't show that here. The slinger burst there served no purpose

Not going to lie wild swing slinger shot evade has some awesome frames. I hope you swag axe users don't depend on sword mode alone. Power axe stagger is close to amazing. You have a lot more evasion that realized.

Best weapon in the game. Safi jiva switch axe can dish out damage like no ones business
The slinger ammo movement kinda useless, I almost never use it, most of the time just for flinch shot.
I think it's very useful to cancel wild swings with that backwards slinger burst slide. It lets you dodge out of one of your strongest and most high-commitment moves.
It's a good evasion and reposition tool for DB
Its good when the ammo is good, you can swing, use the slinger to stagger the monster and then go for a morph wild swing which is one of the stringest SA attks
Slinger thorn Bust on the face... The Best.. It builds up incredible stun damage.
It's worth it with thorn or dragon pods

Considering their extensive handheld history and the current gallery of games available on Switch it’s both surprising and disappointing that MHW isn’t on Switch yet.
