      @@reaganl.5113 have it shipped out here by the gallon, but even with all the needlegunning & welding/patching, wirebrushing, Corroseal & POR15 it’ll be too rotted out from inside to keep saving much longer (mega bummer, because it’s the perfect rural Alaskan vehicle otherwise). Would’ve been great if Toyota replaced the 4Runner frames when they did the Tacomas, but that’s how it worked out. Will be a sad day when it lets go.

    I started buying Toyotas back in the early 2000s! I’ve always done my own mechanic work ! I don’t trust a flat rate mechanic anymore… If I could find somebody like you I would be lucky I’ll pay shop rate to a conscientious individual like you and be happy to do so. Just finished my 30,000 mile maintenance on my 2019 RAV4 hybrid XSE ! I buy all OEM for my Toyota maintenance whenever possible! Big big thank you my friend big thumbs up!

    My guess was on 1) Water Pump pulley, 2) Alternator bearing or the belt was loose and last the Tensioner. Thanks for the video.

    It would of been easier to hear you if the engine was off. 😊👍🏻

    • @LAactor

      I heard some weird things with the engine too. But if the engine is off, the oil pump would not be running. And then the oil would not leak as much as you saw.

    I think the freebie would be easy. Most people never try. But a broom handle from the other side easily pushes out the bumper at least to a better shape. Maybe not perfect but much better than concaved in.
    Some light say bring in some heat from a Hobo Freight heat gun on low to assist. Depends on how much work you want to invest. Don't hold the heat in one spot too long, it can bubble the paint.

      Yes but he turned it off later. It was required to be running so the oil pump could build the required pressure to see the oil drip for the video. Without the oil pump running, the drip would not come out as shown.

  • @billsimpson604

    If you are as cheap as me, you can remove the idler pulley, and if there is no looseness in the bearings indicating significant wear, you can drip a little thick oil into the bearing. Sit it flat and rotate the pulley as you drip a LITTLE oil, such that it works its way inside to get to the steel balls inside the pulley assembly, as you slowly rotate the pulley. Just find the gap closest to the center shaft and get a little oil on it. After you have rotated the pulley to get the oil distributed on all the bearings inside there, take a rag and get the excess oil off the pulley after it is standing vertical for a few minutes. You don't want much excess oil to fly out as the pulley spins. Install the pulley and run the engine for 5 seconds. Then stop it, and wipe off any excess oil on the pulley. Do that a few times. Unless the balls are worn a lot, once you get oil inside there, the bearing will probably run fine for months, or even years. The thicker the oil you get inside, the longer it will stay in there and lubricate the bearings. I bought a new idler pulley for the old Expedition, but after putting some 30 weight oil for use in the lawnmower on the bearing, it rotated so smoothly that I reinstalled the oil pulley. That was a couple of years ago and it is still rotating just fine. I stuck the new pulley in the console. You can test all those pulleys by releasing the belt tension and rotating them by hand. If they don't spin smoothly or make any roaring noise when you spin them, they need to be lubricated or replaced. If you can feel more than a tiny bit of wiggle in the bearing, it should be replaced, since the balls and race inside are significantly worn, probably from running dry. They can have a little play on the shaft, but not 1/8 of an inch. If you see cracks on the inside of the belt, it needs to be replaced. NEVER put your fingers between any pulley and the belt, while you are holding tension on the wrench you are using to release the tension on the belt. If the wrench slips, your fingers could get smashed between the belt and pulley. That would be BAD. Those belts are TIGHT. It is always a good idea, before doing any work on a vehicle to ask yourself, 'now what can possibly go wrong doing this?' Better safe than sorry, especially if working alone.

      Why not install a new NACHI bearing instead? Its like $7 and good for another 100K miles.

      @@janpur1417 I'm retired, so I decided to experiment and see how long the old one I oiled will last. I only put about 1,000 miles on the 2000 Ford SUV a year, and check under the hood a lot.

  • @janpur1417
    @janpur1417 2 роки тому +1

    Don't ever use aftermarket idler and tensioner pulleys. I bought a Hayden Idler for my 2uzfe and was faulty (play) right out of the box. For the tensioner, press in a NACHI bearing, nothing else (tried NSK and it failed). I think the bearing number is 6203 but check your old bearing. You cannot find a replacement bearing for the idler as the factory bearing is more thicker than whats available in the market.

      Hi Moe, have you searched videos for the tube type of tool that's placed on the radiator cap in place of the closed one and the air pump test? That's how you would detect it. You can also check if there is a milkshake in your coolant and/or oil from the two separate fluids coming together if the passages in the head has failed and oil is coming into the water jackets
