Your '63 was the clear winner by far, there is just something magical about that guitar & it has tone to die for! So very well balanced & not too bright either. All the others sounded good too. The 70's was the brightest sounding of the three. The '83 Dan Smith was pretty good too (I may be buying an '82 Smith Strat tonight). The Squier was a nice surprise with those pickups you put in it.
But nothing can touch that '63 of yours - you are so lucky to have a great guitar like that!

Thanks for watching. Yes, the '63 are just sublime. The Squier is very well made and lovely to play, so with decent pickups it really makes for a lovely little guitar. I bought it brand new in 1988. The Dan Smiths are very nice sounding guitars. The neck profile is quite different to other periods, but the feel works for many players. Hopefully you got to pick one up!🎸

Ditto the previous comment, and what a collection! I can relate to much of this comparison, & I can recognise the differences. You’re aware I have an ‘82 AVRI. I’ve also had a Smith 2 knob Strat, but didn’t take to it at all. I bought my Son a 1989 Squier, & later a ‘93 US Standard which he still has. I had a ‘94 US Standard, and a bad 1979 CBS Strat. There have been many more too numerous to mention. Due to space and ultimately funds I currently own a 1989 Squier, a 2021 Strat Pro 2, a 2022 ‘61 Vintage 2, the ‘82 AVRI, a Mex Tele, a Washburn Acoustic, & a Messer Resonator. I think some of us need Strataholics Anonymous😁

There is something about Strats that became an addiction for me! Sounds like you still have some great guitars though. I've sold many guitars over the years that I have loved, but I guess we can only ever really be custodians. It certainly is fun sharing my guitars on the channel, and thanks for telling me about your cool collection 👍🎸

You have a good way of comparing. Its very good to play the same piece on each guitar, so it’s nice to see the differences that way. Well done.

I found that the 70s strat sounded more clear. It was bright but not too bright. There's not a ton of videos comparing the 60s and 70s strats. I'm considering one if the new Vintera II models. I really want to like the 60s but my ears are telling me that the 70s will be more versatile. I mean, I can always tame the highs with the tone knob or roll off the volume for nice cleans. Do you have an opinion? I need versatility. Born in the 70s, I play ALL styles of music, soft rock, classic rock, country and alternative.

The 60's and 70's CBS strats sounded very good (60's is the best in this test). I wasn't too impressed with the 80's strat although the Squire was surprisingly good. I guess Fender just makes a great guitar.
