    It's useful to see your multi-year perspective of the specifications, usability, and visual aspects of generations of iPad keyboards and their interoperabilities.
    The side-by-side photos and videos are very useful, thank you

      Thank you! I like to look back on tech history because it shows us how far we've come... and sometimes how much further we've yet to go.

    Super comprehensive. Thank you. So many other reviews missed the rotating usb hinge

    ESC for the win! 👍and kudos for the Logan's Run reference. Truly a touchstone for it's time (just prior to Star Wars).

      The movie is a little dated, but it has so many memorable moments. Certainly a film from my childhood that I remember fondly.

    Thanks for this video! I’m having some regrets with this keyboard compared to the smart folio keyboard I had before: How do I navigate in Chrome? On all my Macs and on the previous iPad I would be able to navigate backwards and forwards using command + left or right arrow keys.. this however yields no consequence, no reaction with the new one.. Also what is the esc key for? Where does it function? Definitely not like on a Mac desktop or portable computer. Apple should provide a chart for where these keys are supposed to work.

      @@sneakingalleyalligator4510 Back and forward are Command-[ and Command-] respectively. You can hold down the Command key for a few seconds to see a pop-up display of keyboard shortcuts in many applications. Escape key is useful for developers; I’m glad that they added it to the Magic Keyboard. The fabric on my Smart Folio keyboard is starting to split at the edges. I have to see if I can super glue it back together, because it’s just going to get worse over time.

      @@AdamTow It appeared I had somehow entered "Full Keyboard Access" mode. I switched it off and that cmd-arrow key navigation began working again. Also I didn't have to see the intermittent blue frame (extending through the screen edge radi! :D).
      One con with the new keyboard is the weight, but I haven't seen it mentioned much in reviews. It is quite heavy, but it also makes me happy with the 11" choice over the 13", because the 13" definitely would've overlapped a bit with the use cases of my MBP 13" M1. Quality feel however is very nice, and the ability to bring the iPad bundled with a very usable keyboard AND trackpad is great! Looking forward to exploring Lightroom use with the iPad!
      Funny you mention the edge wear on the case, it will be interesting to see how well the new one sticks together, seeing as the load on the edges will increase due to the added weight.

    Very precise and complete review ! I really want to get an 13 inch ipad pro with magic keyboard but my only drawback is the lapability problem . I use a lot my laptop a lot on the lap in regular position .. you seem to manage to use it just fine in your video if you’re not pushing it too much toward the edge of your knees .. is it that annoying and is it that much of an issue ? Also i use my laptop with one feet of one leg resting over the knee of the other leg and the laptop stuck in the midlle .. is the ipad with magic keyboard confortable to use in that position ?
    And what about having the ipad + keyboard rest on your upper half of your body when lying on the bed ? You don’t need a large viewing angle in that position so is it stable with the hinge sitting straight at 90 degree ?
    Thanks in advance for the precisions

      You just need to be mindful of the difference in balance of the new iPad Pro + Magic Keyboard combo. It won’t feel the same as the previous combo, and you just have to be careful not to tip it too far back. You can cross your legs, and it’s fine. Lying in bed, you may want to prop your knees up for more stability. Flat on your stomach, you’ll want the screen angled at 90 or less.

    With the function keys, will there be any functions or shortcuts that can be done via MixEffect?

    • @AdamTow
      @AdamTow  4 місяці тому +2

      I don't think developers have programmatic access to those function keys unfortunately. Maybe this will change in iPadOS 18 this year.

      Okay, but do note that key cap shine is unavoidable over time: hirosarts.com/blog/keycap-shine-and-how-to-prevent-it/
