I’ve purchased so many crafts and paints and glues and the tools needed and I haven’t touched one of them yet. So afraid of failure but watching this video reminded me that even when you “fail” you’re not really failing because you’ve learned something. I needed this video today and I will watch it once a week to keep reminding myself that I CAN do these crafts!🥰
I have just done the same thing. I know I can do it, but I have always been afraid to fail. I am a perfectionist, too, so that doesn't help and I am an over-thinker. I took a painting class in college, and I have always been artistic, but I see everyone of my mistakes, while everyone else is saying that my painting is beautiful. So, I stopped painting, I took that course over 15 years ago, and I hate that I stopped, but it is so hard when you see every imperfection. My daughter is so artistic, and, thankfully, she did not get the perfectionism part of me!!
I had horrible carpal tunnel in my wrist after 25 years of doing hair. My Dr wanted to do surgery but I wanted to try stretching 1st. It actually worked!! Now anytime that feeling starts bothering me I do my stretches and it's gone like magic! I really hope this helps you as much as your teaching has helped me! I love your videos and thank you so much for all the valuable information you share with everyone ❤
Only just come across your channel. I have been doing all sorts of art and craft for ages and sold much refurbished furniture including chalk painted furniture in my shop. You are right about the lot, especially "I cant do that" and over thinking, which I can still do! I landed up teaching classes and passing on the ability to to others to paint furniture. I have so enjoyed this as like you I still need to learn. Thank you.
💕 Thanks Christina! The first time I saw your work, I was in awe of the creativity and said... " wow... wish I could do that..."... and it seemed completely out of my league... after watching all of your UA-cam videos, I've learned so much, understand more and am able to do some projects that I really like... it's true...you do have to be positive and give it a try.. 😍 #youaregenerous!
Hi Cheryl!! So happy to hear that! When I first started I had not idea what I was doing, but staying positive that I could do this is what kept me going! I am still learning every day!!! Thanks again for your support!!!! See you next week!! ❤️🎨🙏
Thanks Christina for this 101 as l suffer from a huge lack of confidence and everyone’s work is so beautiful that mine is not a patch on everyone else’s which is a major barrier when you’re trying to start furniture paint business 😱😱
Hi Susan!! Glad you enjoyed it! We all have to start from somewhere and just taking the first step leads to more confidence! I was you as well and felt the exact same thing! Just take it one step at a time, start small and you can get there! ❤️🙏🎨
THANK YOU, Christina! Not only are you a talented artist and creator, you are an inspiring instructor! I’m just beginning to dabble with chalk paints, so I really appreciate seeing your helpful videos and beautiful projects! More, more, more! 👍🏻
Thank you for sharing your realness!. I'm learning and do so many of these mistakes. Frustration! And TIME. Hubs says "think of this as getting paid to learn...I sell pieces...until you hit your stride"
I’m a newby to your channel and I’m glad I found you. I’ve been “trying” to use chalk paint for too many years. Every time I decide to paint something it ends up with me making so many mistakes I won’t venture out for a very long time. You’re giving me hope. Thanks so much. Toni from Colorado
I’ve just found your channel this week and am in love with it. You’re awesome! I haven’t used chalk paint yet but am fascinated with the effects. I started experimenting with distressing last year and love it more than a perfect paint job (which isn’t in my skill set yet). One tip I have when it comes to evaluating my work is asking myself “If someone else had painted this, would I like it?” It totally stops me from criticising every little bit of the project. I also write a list of goals I want to achieve or try on large projects so it’s not so much about the finished work but the journey, and the courage to try something new along the way. Hello from Australia!
Christine, thank you so much for your guidance, wisdom, experience and support - you are truly one of the Masters. I just started painting furniture in 2020 and I'm still at the stage where I make my own "chalk" paint and I make my own clay, and my projects unfold as a series of "pleasant surprises". I feel like a mad scientist when creativity takes over with all it's infinite possibilities, however I can't help but feel like the end result (eventually) is a beautiful (subjective) "fluke". I know that your videos are helping me take my painting to the next level. giving me confidence in "the process" and allowing me to experience my frenzied painting with a modicum of intention! Thank you again for your knowledge, support, and introducing me to GLAZE, GLAZE, Wonderful GLAZE!!! .
You have hit all nails on the head! Love the information you share with us. Thank you for being so down to earth honest.❤🖌❤ I'm still packed up, and trying to unpack from my move. Painting withdrawals.
Hi Belinda!! You are so welcome! Unpacking can be a challenge! Hang in there, just do small unpacks and have a glass of wine after each box. By the third one, it will be fun to unpack! LOL 😂 ❤️🎨🙏
Hi from Australia, I would like to thank you Christina for an excellent tutorial on mistakes made using chalk paint. I found it so informative and helpful. thank you.
Thank you for your channel. Love watching you. You bring not only good hints and info, but love the way you express yourself and your facial expressions and gestures. Makes me smile
Hey Christina, you are the BEST! I loved how you stressed MISTAKE 9, don't envy other people's work. You are on point. You only get better when you try, try, try! I enjoy watching you every one of your tutorial immensely. Keep going girl.
Thanks Christina...Honestly, out of all your tips, the ones which really spoke to me were #9 and 10. I have the pieces, and the paint, and probably the brushes, but because I have envied all the beautiful pieces I've seen, and because of my over-thinking they sit there idle waiting for me. Because of your inspiration, I'm going to create tomorrow. Thank you Christina!
THANKYOU i christina for the encouragement and inspiration. I know I really overthink everything, not just my projects. Recently I have been telling myself to stop & also ur correct about having someone to support you and that helps more than anything and that was my brother/son, he would always tell people about how beautiful my wreaths are &he would tell me what a gorgeous job I done&then I started DIY ing pieces of furniture that needed an uplift so I couldn't get my colors right and I couldn't & didn't know the difference in the techniques of distressing and still don't & I get discouraged but I'm still trying but & like that chunky blanket and other chunkies of things u do it looks easy and of Course u make & tell us dwn to a teacher teaching us our ABC'S the easiest & the best encourage ment, but still I cant do it yet but I'll keep trying so I can teach my granddaughter. Ty
Hi Judy!!!! So happy to hear you are doing your DIY projects!!! There is no manual on how to do these crafts and the fun part is how you solve to problem to get it to work!! Just keep going, I always say that if you don't like it you can repaint it! It's just paint!!! Thanks for your support to my channel! I hope you like my new video out today! ❤️🎨🙏
THANK YOU, Christina! Not only are you a talented creator and artist, you are an inspiring instructor! I love watching your videos and seeing your projects! 👍🏻
Thank you, Christina - so helpful, from someone who constantly overthinks and therefore procrastinates endlessly! Kind regards from Penny in Liverpool 🇬🇧😊💕
Christina! Such a great Q & A! Thank you for taking the time to address all these things. They've all happened to me. The dots from the overspray when blending drive me so crazy that I won't attempt it any more. Shellac an primer are my best friends, and I'm still a major procrastinator. You're certainly helping with that. Thank you again! 🤗
Thank you Christina you’re amazing your soft voice make me feel calm love everything you do and how you do it with love and how you give us the information with love for us to learn God bless you ♥️💐

Thank you for your help, that's the way I feel about it but because of this tutorials and your comments and your help you have given me some hope thank you. 💕
Thank you. I just recently discovered your channel and have watched several of your chalk paint 101 videos now. These are simple but really important tips. Informative, clear and really well explained.
Another great tutorial with excellent advice. I definitely think #10, over thinking, is what keeps me from starting projects. A close cousin, #11, is making the project overly complicated. With all the amazing things out there like decoupage, moulds, transfers, stencils, glazes, waxes, etc.. I forget that sometime a piece just needs a pretty paint color and a top coat.
Hi Bianca! I agree with you!! Sometimes it just needs a light color to make a huge change, my tutorial with the paint wash is a good example of the base wood is beautiful and the color wash just adds that little touch to it! ❤️🎨🙏
Such good practical advice! Love “it’s just paint”!! Do you have a tutorial on waxing ? Tips, common problems, types of wax, brushes, and cleaning?? Thanks so much!
Hi Bruce! Thank for the kind words! Yes I have a few videos on wax. Here is the playlist link: ua-cam.com/play/PLEhh6cPQn7WOIRG-jUCYi-yRXDQtifMct.html ❤️🎨🙏
Excellent Video! I am am experienced painter and have made all of these mistakes. I am sure many light bulbs will go on as painters watch this. Thanks for sharing .
Hi Deb!!! Thank you for the kind feedback!!! If you have any tips please share here will love to hear other "mistakes" for eveyone to learn from! Thank again!!! ❤️🎨🙏
Oh my gosh.....so glad I found you......in just two videos you've helped me so much. Love watching you......your points are succinct and easy to follow.....not a lot of extra conversation going on, you get right to the point, which I appreciate. Thank you for sharing all the helpful information.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you! I’m going to share with my sister who suffers with Analysis Paralysis and has forgotten how to dive in and try it. Mistakes and all I find painting to be very cathartic... and FUN!
Hi Billy! Thank you for your kind words! I love London!! I so wish I was on the Tube right now heading to Piccadilly Circus!!!...Mind the Gap Please!!!! Stay safe!!! ❤️❤️❤️🙏🎨🇬🇧🇨🇦
Ciao Manuela!!! L'hai detto in modo così bello !!! ❤️🎨🙏
Thanks for another great 101Christina. Overthinking is one of my all time mistakes - pieces sit for ages waiting for me to come up with the perfect plan! 🤪. So I’m going to take your advice and just dive in and see what happens. Love your channel - don’t know how you find the time to do so many tutorials. I look forward to Sat mornings, keep up the great work. Thank you.
Thank you so much I absolutely appreciate this video ! You’ are so talented , my fav part of this is “Stop , over thinking !” Funny I’ve got two pieces sitting in my dining room for the last 30 days while I’ve tried to figure out what I want to do , tonight I just dove in !!! So thank you for the the best advice !!!
Good evening Christina, just wanted to tell you thank you for taking the time and explaining your wisdom on the chalk paint I'm new to this and about to start my first project lol I'm excited and nervous at the same time but I just wanted to compliment you on all your creative projects I love them all from the painting to the boho just everything!!!
Love this episode! Done all of them mistakes myself. Still do 😁. #9 is to the point! Been there, done that, got the t shirt , over it now. What one man can do, another can do too! 🙌 Really great episode Christina! Thank you! 🖤🍀
Your info is appreciated. I have also watched lots of videos and have learned a lot. I am thinking now to go buy annie sloan and get started. I have many pieces waiting for me as I redo each room of this house I bought. Hoping to avoid mistakes and not ruin anything. Abit hesitant but I have always been a person with craft projects and painting rooms so should be ok. Tx for the video. Your very patient!
Hi C... love this video especially because a friend messed up her dining room furniture so I started to fix it, had to use a light sanding paper it was caked on with full of heavy brush strokes. I’m going back tomorrow to give another coat and start again on her 2nd piece. I kept my paint brush very light and it seems to work. Thanks 👍❤️❤️❤️👌👌👌💕
Hi Christina! You really inspired me always!! 🥰 Thank you for all your tips, very helpful information!! Wow my mistakes: #9 and #10 on top of the rest 🤦🏼♀️. Thanks a lot 🙏
Thank you so much, your an inspirational artist 🤗 Think you've given me a kick to start my first project after watching hours and hours of UA-cam videos 😆 Wish me luck 😘
Nr. 9 - ooooh yeeeah!
You have to remember it’s only paint. I chalk painted my bedroom furniture and it turned out great. I also added a clock stencil for a great finish. Just do it, what else do so many of us have to do during these difficult times.
Thank you so much for this I am so guilty of procrastinating I have hundreds of dollars of paint in my basement and a ton of things that I want to paint and I doubt myself so much and then I think to myself what are you worrying about if I wasn't going to paint it it would be in the trash anyway so anything that I have now at the beginning of my painting career is really just Practice Things so thank you I feel better.. I keep remembering what you said just have fun
Love love love your videos. 2 questions: a) Can I layer acrylic wash paint over chalk paint? b) Can I add acrylic to chalk paint to create new colour? Thanks
Hello Christina. I loved the video. How much reason do you have to say that we think everythin too much. Me to. I love this hobby. Sometimes I practice and I am happy. I love to see you inmerse yourself in your works and flow with it...I learn a lot with you. You are the best on the Web....
Hi Carmen!! Thank you so much for the kind and thoughtful words!! I is so nice to hear that you are enjoying this hobby and that you are learning from my tutorials!! Thanks so much for your support to my channel it is so greatly appreciated!! ❤️🎨🙏
Hi Christina, I LOVE your channel! You’re so talented AND beautiful! I’m having a really hard time deciding how to change the color of my kitchen cabinets. Would chalk paint work well for the kitchen?
Hi Shelley!! Yes you can! I have made two kitchen videos on my channel take a look at my channel video list and take a look at the videos! I hope you enjoy it! ❤️🎨🙏
Oh man you nailed it with number 9 and ten! Sometimes I can sit down and have a moderate image of what I want to make and once I get into it I have a blast and finish it no matter if it turns out the way I first rhough. Then other times I am my worste enemy. I'm a procrastinator for sure. Like right now I want to diy a lantern. There's tons of lanterns and I went down the rabbit holee of watching one UA-cam video after another to get an idea so I can put my own swing on it,3 days later still haven't put it together!
Thanks for your tips. Their helpful. What type of bristle and size brush is best to use for chalk paint on wood furniture? I'm new to all this so I'm starting with the basics. Thanks.

Gracias Cristina por tus consejos y por tus vídeos. Me encantan tus trabajos.
Ciao Manuela!!! L'hai detto in modo così bello !!! ❤️🎨🙏

Your very patient!
excellent way to describe how to do things
Hi Mary! Glad it was helpful! ❤️🎨🙏
Many Thanks....best wishes from Germany
Hi C... love this video especially because a friend messed up her dining room furniture so I started to fix it, had to use a light sanding paper it was caked on with full of heavy brush strokes. I’m going back tomorrow to give another coat and start again on her 2nd piece. I kept my paint brush very light and it seems to work. Thanks 👍❤️❤️❤️👌👌👌💕

Nr. 9 - ooooh yeeeah!
Great tips! Thank you!
Hi Dawn!! We all have doubts! Just take a small project to start with and go from there! Don't overwhelm yourself!! Just have fun!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🎨🙏
Love love love your videos. 2 questions: a) Can I layer acrylic wash paint over chalk paint? b) Can I add acrylic to chalk paint to create new colour? Thanks
Thanks 👍 a lot 😀 nice and very useful tips.
Binge watching your videos. 👍❤️
Thankyou for your wonderful advice … on to my first piece of furniture …eeeeekkkkkk
I love your videos!

@@TheReclaimedHeirloom ok! Thank you!
Hay, thanks for sharing your “mistakes” Greetings 😉
Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment and support 🤗💙💙🎨
#8. Best advice ever!

Thanks for your tips. Their helpful. What type of bristle and size brush is best to use for chalk paint on wood furniture? I'm new to all this so I'm starting with the basics. Thanks.
