I thought it was interesting he always called himself Prince of all Saiyans, with his fathers death he should be King of the Saiyans, either that or the loss of his people would mean he isn't really royalty anymore, yet he calls himself Prince. A perfect example of his superiority AND inferiority complex, he thinks he's superior to people because he is royalty but secretly feels inferior to his father whom he can't imagine taking the role of King from.

Just a little add-on for the video: Vegeta's relationship with Trunks is an excellent showing of Vegeta's psyche. At first Vegeta refused to accept Trunks as his son at all, not dismissing him only when he had some info to share. After *SPOILERS FOR ANYONE CURRENTLY WATCHING THROUGH THE CELL SAGA FOR THE FIRST TIME* Cell killed Trunks, something sparked in him. I think that Vegeta didn't want a family because he didn't want to lose everything again. He only truly recognized what he lost after it was gone. After an experience like that, it influenced him to cherish his family at all costs, willing to even put aside his pride to protect them.
that scene is so great and it's became even better after you contrast that with Goku throw Gohan to cell to prove Gohan is stronger. at that point i'm not sure if Gohan dies Goku will sparks rage as strong as Krilin dies (like both senior Picollo and Frieza arc).
It doesn't take a genius to realize that Vegeta is very insecure. He wants to be the best so that way he knows he is the best and that others know that he is the best.

Well I mean. It SHOULDN'T have been humiliating if you think about it. Goku trained for 15 years before Raditz killed him. To TIE Vegeta and Nappa it took half a dozen people, plus a surprise intervention by a guy with a sword, PLUS wishing someone back to life who had spent months in the afterlife being trained by a god. And Vegeta was what, 30? That's a compliment if you ask me. Dude had to get trained by a god AND WISHED BACK TO LIFE to only beat you through tricks, not through his own strength.

He's realized that Goku has a talent for discovering new abilities that Vegeta's structured mind will never have, and that they as a team can push eachother upward apparently infinitely. Goku uh... While everybody would always have a place in their hearts for the obvious main hero of most stories, when I first watched Vegeta sacrifice himself to put a stop to Majin Buu, I started rooting for him the loudest. He's struggled and overcome. He's fallen and got right back up. He's been surpassed, and yet, has also surpassed as well. It should come to no surprise that such characters earn the deepest respects. And Vegeta? I think he set the standard for such a character development arc. He's more than just the Prince of Sayians; he's become a roll model.
Very well said. I agree 100%. Even as a kid before i knew anything about character development or growth, i always found it unfair how Vegeta would always be relegated to 2nd fiddle. I was honestly always rooting for him to become stronger than Goku for good back then lol. Though I'm glad to see his focus has shifted more on protecting those he loves (not just family but even companions from a different universe entirely as shown with Cabba) rather than just becoming stronger for his pride.
When you're a child, you idolize Goku because he's so strong and powerful. When you grow up, you realize Vegeta had the better character development, was a better father, and generally more appealing character.

I'll be honest. I never really got into DB or DBZ... I watched the original with kid-goku but DBZ bored me with all the posturing and grandstanding testosterone... But this video explains a lot about why I liked Vegeta over Goku... See if DBZ had been about Vegeta I may have actually comfortable been able to watch it!
Worth going back to watch the DB series. I'm currently re-watching it 'again' and its a charming fun story that although a little slow in the first two seasons where they are establishing who everyone is and the world building. Yet from season three on we get the pleasure of watching Goku grow into the person we see in DBZ. S3 alone has so many emotional / character building moments and going back I personally find a new respect for super. I always felt DBS was more 'Dragon Ball' than 'Z' (one of the biggest criticisms the show gets is that it isn't DBZ) and watching this again reinforced that to some extent.
Kirsty Shadowdancer Watch DBZ. In the Namek saga Vegeta is pretty much focused on as the lesser bad ass (Frieza and his henchmen being the bigger badass). Then watch Buu saga, that's where vegeta has probably the most character development the show has shown.
You should cover more anime stuff. Lots of more Dragon Ball and maybe some Boku no Hero Jojo and Yuyu Hakusho. Those shows are great. Also I do have some remastery tricks for the dragonbox colors
Now THIS was a lot of fun. I’d love to see more anime and character analysis like this. It really brings out the depth that many viewers have forgotten about because of how “normal” it is for certain characters to act certain ways. I’d love to see you sink your teeth into some of the messed up psychologies of the One Piece cast. With all the trauma they’ve been through there’s no doubt you can get a lot of Milage from the crew

I really prefere Vegeta over Goku. I also believe that he deserves to be one the same level as Goku (or even higher) as, unlike Goku, he achived everything until the Golden Frieza Saga on his own without a master (or taking a sip from the Ultra Divine Water like Goku did).
rivalries in general tend to be better when the two rivals are on the same level, it gets boring to see goku repeatedly reach a new level with vegeta lagging behind

And yea, you should do more anime related videos like this one, they have a nice texture and are pleasant to watch.

Yes more of these. It gives me such a boost better my own characteristics and push myself further, mentally and definitely physically. I want to try and achieve his body type.
I really prefere Vegeta over Goku. I also believe that he deserves to be one the same level as Goku (or even higher) as, unlike Goku, he achived everything until the Golden Frieza Saga on his own without a master (or taking a sip from the Ultra Divine Water like Goku did).
Marc Magma he is one the same level even above but Goku gets power buffs like crazy
rivalries in general tend to be better when the two rivals are on the same level, it gets boring to see goku repeatedly reach a new level with vegeta lagging behind
The Sacred Water was just tap water the Ultra Divine Water almost killed Goku.
