I'm worried Nate may seek revenge on Lexi for the play & how he was depicted in it and the manner he may choose to avenge himself. Maybe through Cassie, hurting Cassie?
ETA. Though if Nate does find out about Fez's attachment to Lexi and tries to threaten or hurt her (or Cassie) to hurt Lexi or Fez. He better hope Fez is in jail and not getting out or dead, because Fez was threatening to kill him for Rue's and Rue's friends sake. Considering how close/attached Fez seems to be to Lexi, Fez - a Fez who's since lost Ash, so probably darker than before - would kill Nate for sure if he found out he threatened/hurt Lexi (or hurt Cassie to hurt Lexi).

Lexi's play did a lot of good.
It highlighted Rue's humanity and pain. Lexi could have portrayed her as a mean addict who was always popping pills. But Lexi always saw the good in Rue, even when no one else did. She knew Rue was hurting on the inside and that she had the potential to be a good person. It was the moment she saw the play that Rue saw herself as redeemable.
Now, for Maddy it's a bit different. One thing that Maddy is, is strong. She isn't afraid to bite back at anyone who wrongs her. She isn't afraid to stand up for herself. But something that isn't paid a lot of attention is her compassion and vulnerability. Lexi really showed us that in her play, a side to Maddy that she keeps from everyone. It made Maddy realize that she was so much more than Nate's abuse and Cassie's betrayal. Maddy was able to move on because she realized neither of them were worth the grief.
Now for Cassie, we'll never know what the play could have done for her. She interrupted before we could see and we only saw the parts with Rue and the funeral. But I like to think that while she did portray Cassie as self-absorbed, she would have had a sympathetic character. We even see a glimpse of it when Hattie is comforting Marta. But unfortunately, unlike Rue and Maddy, Cassie chose to embrace her negative traits.
(I also think a lot of people forget that Cassie wasn't pissed because of her character. Annoyed, yes, but that isn't the reason she interrupted the play. She was upset that Nate broke up with her. The difference there is key because up to that point- before the carousel scene- her character hadn't even been portrayed negatively. Her actions were solely dependent on Nate and it's disappointing that more people aren't aware of that)

The reasoning behind Cassie's meltdown doesn't matter in evaluating this play. If the show wanted us to see how Lexi had intended to give Cassie a positive conclusion, they could have shown us that - especially since it wouldn't have been a spoiler! It would have even added to the drama for us to know that Cassie would just have to be a little bit more patient to see herself in a loving light in the end.
But they didn't do that. I think the show did a very poor job in justifying this voyeuristic and self-absorbed play. I would have been totally on board if this whole play would have actually been only in her (edit: Lexi's) head. I would have been on board if she had changed not just the other person's names in the story, but also her own.
Remember? Yeah. She was part of the story with her own name, Lexi. This basically destroyed the possibility for everyone watching the play to distance themselves from the people this was based on.
And if the writers know what they're doing, they must have known this. Instead, they brushed over this with this very stupid line: "Sometimes people need to get their feelings hurt." ... And to what end? There is truth to the idea, that sometimes people need to be broken to rebuild themselves in a better way. But we never got to see the rebuilding but, not on paper, not on stage. And this is the part that could have been a huge testiment to Lexi's creativity.
I love the show after all for many reasons - but I think that the writing on this play was deeply messed up. (I didn't even speak of the "ew gay" jokes about Nake. It is not okay to use "gay" as an insult - because you not only target Nate, you always target every gay person as well)

Actually Cassie mental breakdown is important in evaluating the play.
You could see that Nate and Cassie were both hurt by the play throughout epsiode 7, the difference is that Nate didn't get up on stage. He walked out during imissions and left, breaking up with Cassie. If Nate hadn't broke up with Cassie. Cassie would have never gotten up on stage and revealed that Lexie wrote the play based on her perspective.
We as the audience watching the show know that Lexi did that but the people watching the show did not until Cassie went up on stage and revealed it.
Now this part is debatable but I truly believe Lexie intentions were not malicious in the slightest, Cassie asked Lexi if her toxic relationship with Nate would be in the play and Lexi replied no. Also in a later scene she tells the actress Cassie to get back on that horse and own it. If Lexie truly meant to get Cassie's feeling hurt I truly think she would have included those moments.
Was the carousel scene questionable, yes. Was it necessary, no. However that doesn't mean the reason why Lexi put in the play was to hurt her sister. Honestly we will never know why Lexi put that scene in her play because Cassie intruppted the play.

I think based on the play, lexi is still in the beginning stages of self love. Even though we’re being told Lexi is imagining herself as the main character, we can still see that Lexi still sees herself as a part in others story which is reflected in her play where it’s still more about the shallowness of other people a lot more than her own insecurities and struggles. Yes her struggles are there, But they are still a minor part of the play instead of major part.

Honestly I never liked this show, but something so vain as gosip or just because it was popular kept me interested to see how they were doing with all of the unnecesary drama they were involved in. Lexi's character popped off like sore thumb the minute I found out about her, because she was extremely boring and normal. That is exactly why I fell in love with her the minute I saw her in this enhanced reality of craziness. Her play and her story was utterly brilliant, maybe the one thing I give this show credit. I was expecting people to be as intrigued as I was with her, but everyone kept talking about Cassie or Rue or Maddie and that is fine and all; but they seemed to ignored her completely from convos. Once I saw what she did with her play, I expected she would have exploded in popularity and for others to analize her more. Your video and maybe 2 or 3 more is the only thing I could find and honestly I love this one a lot, because it sums her up almost completely and why she was so endearing. I never villainize her and now I have the context of what happened and honestly she really is relatable to most of us who went through similar things like her in high school.
    Excellent video!

Lexi's musical work was incredible! Although many people criticize her and others admire her, we must recognize that she was the one who best coped with all her problems. Unlike Cassie, Lexi from the same dysfunctional family did not do lamentably wrong actions which, more than damaging her integrity as a person, harmed other people as happened between Cassie and Maddy. Her musical was her point of view and let's not forget she was the only one to beat Nate Jacobs!

    • @ingabyczkiewicz3731

They came from the same family but let’s not forget that Lexi was spared being sexualized by family members from a young age which can completely destroy your self worth and make you so dependent on male validation that you are willing to do many things you’re not okay with. Cassie wasn’t even an adult yet everyone is so quick to blame her for that instead of adults in her life who were never there to protect her or at least tried to help her with that issue. Also no one even talks about those men who made her feel like her only value is her body/appeal to heir desires and the ones who kept her in this state of need for their validation, taking advantage of it while slutshaming her at the same time (therefore making it even worse). Perhaps Maddy was the only one who kind of understood this dynamic so perhaps she was a better observer than Lexi (her view of her sister seems really shallow to me)

    • @VyctoriaBrooks
      @VyctoriaBrooks Місяць тому

@@ingabyczkiewicz3731 Cassie being sexualized by men, while incredibly disgusting, is part of life.
From what we understand, her need for male validation stems from her issues with her father. Her being sexualized gave her the behaviors rhags she could fix her daddy issues through men.
So to say that Cassie is who she is because of the sexualization takes away her choice and autonomy. Which is something she often tried to do as she consistently complained about the timeline of her and Nate, or blaming Fez for whag he did just to be with Nate even though she knew Nate was abusive and crazy (I.e. Maddy) and still sided with him.
So no, while its wrong and we should talk about this issue seperately, Cassie’s issues are attributed to her dad, giving both her and her sister self-esteem issues. They both handled it differently but their issue is still the same. Lets not give Cassie a different motivation for her issues when her entire episode we dedicated to showcasing thag it comes from her dad. And she let these men use her. We see this in Daniel, when she is in a relationship and decides to emotionally and then cheat. Are we blaming Daniel for flirtrint with her? No we should blame them for how he treated her (a little dick ) but Cassie chose to do what she does and she uses men back.

lexi is my favourite character. I love how she represents the ideal of reason in the show being the only person in the main cast, which truly has a quite and awkward nature. She is not sexual or crazy. She keeps to herself, is smart and struggles with self confidence due to her awkward nature. I really loved how they expanded on her storyline in the second season by bringing Fezco in as a love interest. He might be a drug dealer and seen as ruthless or unethical by outsiders, but in the flashbacks and in the first season one could see that he is quite knowledgeable, but due to his difficult circumstances, he wasn't able to follow that path. Needing to provide for his family after his grandma became ill. Their relationship is in my opinion the purist one in the whole series, even more than Rue and Jules. Having respect for each other, listening to one another, being uplifting and the cutest thing ever sharing niche interests and having loving discussions about them. I couldn't bare myself to watch the last episode as I don't want to see Lexi being crushed by whatever reason why Fezco was hindered in coming to your play. And omg I forgot them having phone calls and Lexi asking him for advice was also soo pure.

I honestly still don’t get it. Why would she humiliate Nate like that, although she doesn’t know how awful he was to Maddy or Jules, yet knows how fucked up his dad is ? Why would she expose her sister at her lowest (I don’t really like Cassie’s character but come on now, she had absolutely no reason to but that carousel scene in there) ? Why wouldn’t she ask about anyone before making a public play about them ? Why would she treat the people who worked in the play so bad ? And why did she think a play about herself would be so interesting to people ? I mean I think it’s kinda iconic to write a play about yourself and your life, but she was so serious about it.

But I must say: Cassie’s fanbase is annoying and exhibits extreme cognitive dissonance & hypocrisy. It’s interesting how they delve into analyzing their favorite character’s traumas but hesitate to extend the same understanding to her sister, who shares similar experiences. Cassie gets grace for all her piss poor decisions but not Lexi? Really? She’s far from innocent and deliberately hurts people. Not to mention she was hardly a good sister to Lexi. Every single video about Lexi they flood the comments about how awful Lexi is. Out of everyone in the show she easily has the least flaws out of everyone. If anything Cassie is an awful person. She makes her own decisions but when their bad she never owns up to them, she always tries to deflect the blame. The play is what Cassie needed to actually look at herself from an outsider perspective and maybe she’ll reflect from that and actually become a good character
