Homes shouldn't be permitted to be built in such areas, this is on the city for allowing the homes to be built there. Just because it has a great view doesn't make it suitable for large mansions.
Geologists told them that back in the 40s and 50s. But developers waved $$$ and people looked the other way, hoping nothing happens until after they retire.
Aaaaaah, says someone who can't afford to build a mansion on the seaside cliff! Don't worry you aren't alone. Im sure if I had the money to build there I would too, and I would "forget" how many times I shook my head at the craziness of some of these builds. But for many of these folks its possibly just one of their several homes, so they can afford the loss/insurance payout.
at what point do we want government telling us where we can and cannot build..it is your money and your loss...just like gambling or dabbling in the stock markets...
Which they have been having a lot since the beginning of January. Dana point is pretty close to San Diego which has been getting earthquakes and lots of rain. Last occurring one was 4.7 I believe 🤔
I wouldn't still call them multi-million dollar homes, with the land directly under them vanishing. There's nothing under the foundation. Who would buy them and who would live in them?

Yet she said non of the home is in danger of sliding down the cliff.

Less than a band-aid solution. Water propagates underground and landslides/earth movement/earthquakes happens all the time. It's why we have mountains. Just placing plastic in spots won't stop what eventually will happen.
No immediate threat within the hour.. wow scary and sad for all the homeowners. Dana point is not far from San Diego and they had about 12 earthquakes within a three hour time frame. We’ve actually been having a lot of earthquakes out here in Southern California 😳 how is there no immediate threat. A chance I wouldn’t take.
Really. SO the land is sand. lol You need to take a geology class. I guess if the waves started to wash away a mountain.. The mountain was made of sand. lol. what about the land 500 feet farther in? or a mile? all sand.
I don't want to see anyone lose their home, but.......Just because you are wealthy doesn't mean you are immune from mother nature. No one should be permitted to build in areas where this occurs. This phenomena is not new, the cliffs naturally erode. It is what happens when waves crash against the shore.
if you or anyone that has taken a geology class 101( like literally ) you'd all learn by now NEVER to have a house on a hillside unless it's bedrock. you also never have a home near a river or stream. these are just basic principles of building/geology. houses on cliffs along coast and you're really asking for it because salt breaks down everything and anything. in 150-600 years, do you really think those houses will withstand the test of time(nature)? didn't think so.
Matthew 7:24-27 "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."
They're going to check how they can stabilize The Cliff it's Mother Nature the Earth is spinning constantly the cliff is going to erode don't build houses on cliffs
I love how he calls it "soil". It is NOT "soil". It is 100% sand!! If you build your home upon a sand cliff, then this is the eventual outcome. Full stop.
Absolutely nothing to worry about. A little saturated sandy soil, earth quake zone, foot steps from the beach, fire/flood prone, exposed to the elements. For sale.
That barrier wall may be able to stop an isolated bolder or tiny landslide, but it could not stop a large landslide. The force of soil and rock descending from that height would obliterate the wall.
Debris nets only keep the rocks and soil that fall close to the slope, it doesn't stabilize nor keep all debris off the road or tracks below. Retaining walls are only as good as their foundation. There's only sand there. Even if you made a wall to the top of the bluff, it wouldn't stop the cliff from collapsing.
He's fine because he gets his insurance from a Federal program that subsidizes coastal homeowners with NO UPPER LIMITS. Yes, you are paying this millionaire's insurance.
@@ceciliauribe812 Yes, it is called the National Flood Insurance Program, which sounds senseable, as the titles always do. NO common sense when building a home on a cliff!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

The reason there is a cliff is rapid erosion. Weather affects when actual landslides propagate.
Oh yeah, after inspecting it over the internet I do concur that this building is safe!
you build on any cliff near ocean the cliffside will eventually go away and house will to . Its not a quesiton of if its a question of when
