Hi, maybe you're gonna miss the winter at la paz, it is a hot place most of the year and very hot from july to october, arround 100 degrees, but the rest of the year weather is good, from january to march are the coldest months of the year but not much for you, I think would be nice for you.
      Saludos desde la paz!!

My all time favorite saying is “things you own, own you”, the truth of which is 1000%. I am constantly trying to downsize for the sake of more freedom, though the system seems to work against us in this matter.

      D. Mills
We live in a consumer society.
      Our media has been brain-washing
Us into believing that we cannot be
happy unless we own this or that...!
Also, it’s human nature to complete
with those around us, it’s a status
      symbol to own certain things...
These same things also give us a
      false sense of accomplishment or
achievement when in fact, it all just
comes down to Big Business trying
to peddle their “Stuff” off on you and
I while they line their pockets with the
cash earned from our blood, sweat and
      tears...
The person who learns how to do away
with all of the “Stuff” in the World and not
miss any of it, will be the happiest person
      out there...

@@coyne777 Just like in the US, each state in Mexico is unique. La Paz suits me just fine during the winter with 50s at night and 70s during the day for a few weeks a year. If escaping for even warmer winter weather and you can find that in Quintana Roo (Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Isla Mujeres, Tulum, Bacalar). Certainly there are many other locations with beaches as well (Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, Zihuatanejo, Puerto Escondido, Huatulco, for example). . There are reputable real estate agents throughout Mexico to help with the buying process and property management when you are not there. Lots of help with other folks in Expats in Mexico for all the locations with beaches in Mexico ... I can certainly help with things specifically here in La Paz. Consider visiting/renting in several locations for a month or so before buying.

I know that many people are concerned about drug issues in Mexico...
Every Country has its issues when it comes to drugs...
There are safe places where there normally are no issues ever, then there
are areas that everyone knows that you stay away from because there can
be the potential for drug related things taking place at any time of the day...
As with most things in life, it’s always better to give in to the side of caution
    and avoid those places.
Some people will ask, how can I tell if a area is safe or not.
When dealing with drugs, it’s often not difficult to tell but rest assured, usually
all a person needs to do is keep you eyes and ears open...
If you still are uncertain, then I’m a firm believer in asking the locals...
People who live there or do business in an area tend to know everything going
on there and everyone who frequents the area.
If you practice a couple of basic safety steps you should not have any issues.
Stay away from areas that look unsafe and where questionable people seem to
    gather.
Always be aware of your surroundings and what’s going on around you at all times.
All too often, we tend to get wrapped up in our own little Worlds and walk around with
blinders on, unaware of what’s going on around us...
As I mentioned above, you can always ask the local citizens.
Last, when in doubt and all of the above methods have still left you guessing, ask a police
    officer.
They are always more than happy to inform people of areas that are safe and those to stay
    away from...
Do not be afraid to visit places based upon fears of the unknown...

I believe I misspoke in the interview with Robert ... the total monthly cost for me is not $300 USD per month, it is closer to $400 USD per month not counting food. You can rent an Airbnb in the same building I live for 6000 - 8000 pesos per month that are even nicer than my place ... furniture and appliances included. FYI if you are planning on coming in the summer (July-September) be prepared for 100 F temperatures and higher electrical bills. Hope that helps!

Those worried about drugs, it’s just like the US, meth is a huge problem so petty thieves are always on the lookout for your belongings. In La Paz, it’s pretty easy to tell the goos áreas from the not so good, just keep your head in the game and you’ll be safe. If you can’t, stay home.

My bad, about $400 not counting food. Rent 5500, electricity 100 (don't use much AC), water 140, gas 100, internet/phone 389 ... all in pesos so it depends on exchange rates. All in, 6229 for living and 1000 for medical insurance per month. Current exchange rate is about 19 pesos to the dollar so that is $380 and change. Hope that helps.

The interviewer was probably not thinking/remembering how close to sea-level it was. People often move their mouths without thinking first. It was a silly, nonsense question. Now if they were talking about Tucson, AZ. and the foothills and higher areas that surround Tucson, at 2000' in elevation up to 4000', then that is high desert. I'm sure the person just wasn't thinking.
