Funny not funny how "expat" and "immigrant" terms work, most of the USA people believe they're "expats" but they don't want to call themselves "immigrants, aliens, invaders, wet backs" like some other groups like Mexicans, Venezuelans, Cubans, Salvadorans etc living in USA are called like that on a daily basis Your ancestors from the "Mayflower" were immigrants and so are you now as well, nothing wrong with that, just don't romanticize your necessities , struggles, and lack of resources to live a decent live in your hometown calling yourselves "expats" That auto perception doesn't mean that the same rule will not apply the for everyone despite that are the same conditions lived through different characters/races/ethnicities/citizenships Just so you know, the whole country is not gonna change the language, the system for you (yes it's Kms, liters, meters, kilos, Celsius etc) as many complaint and discuss about that Don't try to change the celebrations for the Saints and Virgins in the rural areas you'll lose that battle, there will be fireworks all day and night for days in some places And BTW, don't come thinking that you can have a private pool where there's no water even to drink let alone a pool for a selfish lifestyle Be humble, be nice, treat others like you like to be treated every time Learn Spanish, the day when you have a big emergency will come and see if everyone will be ble (or/and willing) to understand you in English Specially when you have been 10 years or so already in the country and you think you're "expat" and 0 Español

Hi Victoria, Enjoyed your presentation. I’m planning to move to Mexico in about a month. Still undecided as to best place to land. Your description is very compelling. I’m a retired photographer seeking a tranquil life style. Sounds like Patzcuaro might be the right place. Do you offer only short term accommodations? Thank you, James Aquino

Rewatching our video 3 years after it was recorded, I want to emphasize: We didn't choose first to retire and then chose to move to Puerto Vallarta. It's the other way around: we were working remotely in Puerto Vallarta and realized then that 1/ we loved it there and 2/ we could retire right away if we moved to Mexico. Update: As a couple we actually spend $20K per year to live in Puerto Vallarta (not 30k as announced). But our travel expenses are much higher than announced in the video because we travel more often and around the world. At home we spend very little in clothing (shorts and Tshirts is all we need, pretty much), we avoid touristy restaurants, we do our housekeeping/landscaping/house maintenance mostly ourselves, we still don't own a car, our utilities are very low (we have solar panels, we don't use much propane as our water heater is off half of the year & we dry our laundry outside), our medical expenses are still very low. We're still very active and very happy that we moved there.

"Veracruz has the best food in Mexico". Our first time in Veracruz, we spent several days in La Antigua (which I loved). I had a seafood cocktail, at a little riverside restaurant, that remains among the best things I've ever eaten. I love Xalapa, plan visit again in early 2025, hoping to spend extended time in the near future.

Is it possible to live in PV using a EV scooter. I can walk short distances but long distances for shopping, strolling on the Malecon, going to cafe's restaurants, can a small EV scooter do the job? I need to be near the beach (EV scooter distance). Perhaps there are areas where this could work. I looking short term rental for 3 months. I'm 80 years old (young-old as they say). Thanks.

brilluant, I'm thinking of expatting from Canada, i qualify for permanent res, but I dont want to pay that 30% Mexican withholding tax on foreign dividend income - currently I pay 12%. So if someone can clarify that for me, lots of expats living in PV and dont file with Mexico, just their counrtry of origin. This is what i want to do

Great advice. And here we are...serendipitously landed here in our little RV and already thinking we may have found a forever home... It reminds us of Oregon but also San Diego but in better times. And yes, I've noticed that not as much English is spoken here as in many other places we've been. I"m comfortable with that and we are learning... Check out her hotel and apartments online...they look AMAZING.

Patzcuaro is my most favorite place in all of Mexico. 3 times we stayed for a month during Easter and it was just wonderful. Our last visit was the month of April 2020 at the height of Covid and although it was very sad that we couldn't mingle, go to the marcado, or our favorite restaurants....it was probably the best place to be with this kind and caring people. We lived at the top of hill above Dr Coz and our Colonia was very tight knit and wonderful to be in. The Bodega, the vegetables ladies, everyone took extreme common sense care for the community health. Our rental was at the top of a ridge top with constant stunningly beautiful views and lighting

I spent some time in Ensenada last year, to try to determine if I wanted to get a place there. Rents were higher than expected, and the security issue was a deal killer for us. Trucks full of army and police, in full riot gear, parading up and down the main drag all day long. And the police were quite hostile. Spoke to one, and he said the homicides are way up, and you always have to be careful and watchful. Not for us.
