Such a helpful, interesting, and valuable interview - thank you both! Is love to hear more from this channel about finding safe places outside our on the outskirts of SMA proper and also the mature, well educated, and creative perspective is very appreciated!
Big fan of Mr. Scherber. Reading one of his ex-pat books right now, and love his Paul Zacher series as well. As a person hoping to retire to (somewhere in) Mexico very soon, they are a wonderful resource, as well as being quite entertaining. As a painter, I hope some day he will share his own paintings with us!
John, I am reading your book "EXPAT LIFE: At Home in San Miguel de Allende" (for the second time). I am highlighting many parts of your book and will take it on our two months long trip to SMA this summer. Your book will serve as a useful tool for those of us who want to visit San Miguel for an extended stay and learn all we can about the people, culture, and all else this intriguing and fascinating town has to offer. Perhaps you give lectures in San Miguel? We will check when we get in town.
I really love the interviews you do with expat artists, writers, musicians, composers.and gallerist . .... could you include a jazz musician, could you film in a jazz club?...a writer’s group,
It would have been nice if you had put the microphone between you. When I set the volume up to hear John then the interviewer blasted me out. I would love to have seen the property and it's surrounds. I have seen videos of properties in the city and they were beautiful and the city itself is beautiful. A very good interview.
What a delightful man! I'm going to get some of his books. I especially like that he doesn't think collectively by homogenizing other folk's unique experiences. Great video.
@@johnscherber450 Thanks John. I followed the link but didn't find the books. I'd like to buy the book(s) that convey the stories by expat there in SMA that you mentioned.
Can I ask, where does your wife keep her horse? We are moving to Cieneguita in the Spring of 2023, and I am bringing my horse from the US, and have only found one boarding facility that I liked.
Oh no!!! Guanajuato is a much bigger city full of too many people. San Miguel is the place to be for peace, tranquility, and has the perfect atmosphere for Seniors to retire. I just came back from Guanajuato and it's way over crowded.
As someone who has lived in SMA off and on since 1997, I've been alarmed by the precipitous rise of crime there recently. I'm surprised your interview didn't touch upon the subject.
First, the question was not asked. But mainly, in 14 years in this area I have never had a problem. It's not hard to avoid if you stay clear of the drug scene and exercise care when you're out after dark.
There is an entire contingent of people living in San Miguel who have a better lifestyle because prices are lower. Some are living on Social `security.
we are coming in April to scout. Love to chat John

Muchas gracias, we will work on your request. Check out our Ben Pitre interview, also. Both John and Ben live on the outskirts of SMA.
Thank so much , will have to look for some of your works/ books here in the U S .

Thank you
Nice interview. I'm glad he remains active. 5 books in one year is impressive!
Mexico is just lovely! good video.

The video would have really come to life, if we could have seen his property.
Thanks for sharing
He is a very good story teller and orator.
Just said...mexico is the best...☝☝☝

Would you interview those American actors?
How about doing a profile interview with an artist and show his work. Great job!

What is the closets airport? Or best way to fly in relatives for a visit? I’m very interested in this town and hope to visit soon.
Querétaro.
How do you deal with the high fluoride and arsenic in the tap water?
For myself I would distill any water. Is the arsenic from the gold mining? I wonder about sewer treatment.
@@victoriaallen8271 No it's naturally occurring and now in the tap water because the water table has gotten so low.
@@victoriaallen8271 Distilling water takes a lot of energy. Sort of defeats the purpose of being environmentally conscious .
@@SGspecial84 Environmentally conscious, what part of arsenic don't you understand hippie?.
Hi John, How do you deal with missing your kids and grandkids? My only worry when I come south. Thanks!!

He should have given a house tour with this video
Try Guanajuato city even better 😍

Hmm, I'm barely even a millionaire so I can't really relate to this guy.

@Mongoose 1980 Guadalajara is a city...that said, I certainly felt safer there than in LA.
