The Bed Tilt Method of Accessing Your Fuel Tank

- In this episode, I show you how to use the bed tilt method to access the fuel tank and/or in-tank fuel pump on your Chevy Silverado or GMC Sierra. This is quite a bit easier than dropping the fuel tank like I did a couple of episodes ago. This is the way I'll be doing it the next time I have to install a Walbro 450 or Walbro 525 in-tank fuel pump in a Chevy truck.
Also I started a brand new Facebook group to go along with the channel, you can find it here: / 649494135791408
I have a new instagram handle for the channel as well, here's the link: / lowbuckls
And the website I'll be publishing technical content on is LowbuckLS.com - Авто та транспорт
10:20 that strap hanging there is the ground strap/wire. For everyone out there, don't make my mistake. I had my pump go bad in freezing weather. On top of which I was traveling to a dif state. So I did all the work in AutoZone parking lot laying in the snow and freezing weather. So before putting truck bed back on and reinstalling, of course I'd test it. But didn't work and I went thru about 4 brand new pumps, including having to rewire a couple. It was super bowl Sunday and I was late, I was fkn pissed- of all days it had to be. Finally a guy passing by asked me "if I had the ground connected" to the bed frame or panel by gas nozzle. Nope. Totally didn't realize I needed it connected. I thought it was for electrical surge protector. Started right up. Just a simple wire coming from an area I didn't think important caused me so much grief. So don't forget about it and be sure to connect the ground wire. In Silverado the wire that comes by the gas inlet tube.
😮😊
It's so nice to be able to get this done in a timely fashion without asking someone to help you lift the bed.
Thankyou. I am 68 and this will be a bunch easier than dropping the tank.
Brilliant! I'm going to try this on my ford.
Super bloody cool Thanks so much
Great vid thank you!
Liffting the bed is a good method especially if there is full tank of gas the issue with this is the retainer that hold the fuel pump in the tank it's very difficult to compress the new gasket seal because you can't get enough down ward pressue on the retainer to get it in postion.
Great stuff!
Thx a lot
Ty for sharing
Don,t know if I,d jack up the box by lifting on the wheel well though . This can be a weak spot ,as well as corrosion wise ? Maybe install , all ,the bed bolts too .
How long do you think with this method would it take to replace the pump from start to finish
thanks for fb group you made i ask to join to
It's great to see the group taking off so well . Cal tracks work great. Just make sure you weld the axle tubes to the pumpkin. I found out the hard way. Lol
Phil Betthauser thanks for the tip, I wouldn’t have thought of that, probably good to weld the tubes even before I get the Caltracs. Thanks for being a part of the group too!
@@LowbuckLS I spun the pumpkin on the axle tubes on a 10 bolt in a f body. It did a bit of damage lol.
I look forward to seeing the group grow 👍
Phil Betthauser yeah I can see how that could make a mess I’ll probably be welding those up soon
What’s the sensor to the left of the filler neck?
Much easier 👍
Cherry picker works well also.
i HAVE THE NEW BODY STYLE SILVERADO SO I WILL TRY THAT IF IT IS NOT TOO RUSTY. I LIVE IN NOIRTHERN MNESOTA
What are those to connectors you disconnected on the rear of the truck
Power to tail lights.
Change the rear brakeline while you’re in there
i have 2000 chevy 1500 4.8 vortex with 4l60e trans too my first gear works 2nd want shift so im gonna be rebuilding it asap
I help me so much
I need help with this
What year was this done on?
The truck is a 2000 model year
Did this to my truck also, 2 welded nuts spun in circles ,so I used 2 - 6 inch long drills 1/8 inch & 1/4 drilled next to the bolt washer on a 30 degree angle, toward center of bolt inside of frame, then I stuck a 1/4 bolt through frame and was able to remove bolt without nut spinning, reverse this procedure to install and nut plate is re - useable. "Spark free procedure"
Thanks for the follow on instagram! Thanks
