Are you paraphrasing? Fantana says "I'm rolling with some friends of mine - OJ Simpson, Phil Spector, and Robert Blake - we go cruising nightclubs to pick up chicks. Call ourselves 'The Ladykillers'"
I taught for many years. Had to-no, CARED to-memorize 60 student names each semester inside of a week. I discovered it's actually not that hard: you simply have to be present and focus on the unique individual in front of you when they say their name, then repeat it back to yourself in your head. It sticks in the same way you remember your sister or friend's name because you associate the name with the unique, distinct person. The problem is, when we meet people, we're often too caught up in ourselves-"what do they think of me? what am I going to say next?"-so we don't listen and sort of objectify new people in moment. When you remember someone's name, they feel acknowledged, thus more likely to want to engage with you. You also appear to them to be more confident and emotionally intelligent.
I'm a bartender and I'm horrible with names and I have a bad habit of always asking and shaking their hands but forgetting frequently 🤦 I'm gonna try this today, thank you 🙏
Norman the Doorman! Man I would have failed this so hard in college. You sit next to a person for a whole semester, goof off, talk, and then realize you don't know their name and it's too late to ask. Gotta ride it out to the end of the semester and then you never see them again.
THIS! I had multiple classes with a guy in my major talked and sat next to each other many times, didn’t know his name he was saved in my phone as his gamer tag
Until years later you run into each other in the grocery store and talk about the old professor or some weirdo but neither of you want to ask what the other person's name is 😂.
Hader is one of the SNL greats now. He’s just so unbelievably, naturally, and perfectly funny. Best voices, incredible faces he makes, he really *becomes* whatever insane character he’s playing, and you can tell he loves doing most of the roles he does. I’m sure there’s been at least a couple where he may have not loved the character, but he put in the work anyway. That’s what makes him so fantastic. I could not stop getting giddy when he was in It Part Two. And when he was in despair, I was in despair. He’s an astonishing comedian, but he’s just as good at acting in more serious moments like that 🥺❤️🫶🏻
One of the best sketches ever. It’s hilarious because it’s true to our natures, and is excellent social commentary about how we view those “beneath us”.
That was definitely his best game show host sketches, and one of his best in general (along with Herb Welch and the veteran with PTSD in muppet class).
There comes a point-of-no-return with certain people. When you often have only heard their name once, or twice, but it's been so long that you CAN'T ask them without offending them. So, you just have to play it cool and hope that you overhear it at some point. Often, the chance never comes.
I usually bite the bullet the third or fourth time meeting them and just ask their name apologetically but effusively. pay it off as me being d'oh. then at some point after that I know them well enough to add them on Facebook or save their name & number to my phone, and that way I have their name saved somewhere (and if with a profile pic, also a static unchanging visual thing I can tie to them even if it's not a picture of their face) then again I wonder sometimes if I should try and start to socialise differently as I approach my 30s, as I often catch myself behaving with a kinda "scatterbrained young uni student" vibe plus working from an old scarcity mindset from back when I had no friends as a kid. easier to remember stuff about your friends when you're a) busy with studies and b) barely have any, lmao
I'm a barista and there's a few regulars like this. I know so much about them, they've been coming every day for months. I know their order as soon as they walk in. Couldnt tell you their name

Idk if ya'll heard of it,but this guy did s show called barry or berry. Think its his directorial debut , but the show is pretty damn good. Hes really good as the unassuming bad ass hit man with a twist of dark humor.
Best one was when John was on and said: "Do I have to look at her as I say it?" Bill says: "Riiiiight in the eyes!!" For-TEN-MILLION dollars, whats that name?" 🤣🤣🤣
This is absolutely one of my favorites!! It's just SO dark when you really think about it. Just think about that time when you should've known, but just couldn't remember, and how shitty you felt inside 😈👹👹😈

When Timberlake guessed that his former bandmate had the name "Chartie," kills me every time. Hader: "He was in the band NSYNC with you for 6 years. You think his name is.....Chartie?"
Hader as the sadistic game show host is always great.
