    The J-15 features the same round-shoulder body shape of Gibson's J-45, aka "The Workhorse", an incredibly popular acoustic that has been one of Gibson's best-selling guitars since it's introduction in 1942. I bought my J-15 in 2017. It really is an outstanding guitar and has opened up nicely, only getting better and better. I am so glad I decided on it. It has become my go to.

      Thanks for the info, I'm thinking of buying one soon. Some luthier forums are skeptical about the walnut fretboard, saying it's prone to wear. Have you noticed anything similar in these last 2 years? Cheers.

      I wonder if this has been a popular/good selling model for Gibson. I love the tone of walnut and just about every j-15 I've played just sounds and feels wonderful!

    Have a Martin D-28 and a Taylor 314ce. Picked up this rig off the wall at GC and couldn't put it down... they had 4 of them in stock, but the voice on the first one I picked up just amazed me. Had absolutely no need for this rig, but I bought it anyway. GAS sucks, but this guitar is just beautiful.

    I just bought one of these recently,and I have to say that I love it,and cannot understand why it was so relatively cheap for the quality and sound,I had the plastic nut and saddle changed for bone,and it's sounding and playing great,I've already got a Custom J-45, and think this J-15 is a match for it.

    I just purchased a J-15. In one word I can sum it up: Amazing. I have owned numerous Martins, Gibsons, Larrivees and a Taylor. This is an absolutely outstanding guitar to play, so comfortable. Fantastic sound. Such long, deep sustain. I think the Gibson guy was drunk the day he book matched the sound board though but other than that it is absolutely a keeper guitar for me.

    i have two martins , a taylor and a j45...i like them all. i just bought a used j15 and i like it a lot. i may have it set up a little better and its a little brighter than my martins of my j45, but its real nice. i like the size of the 45 body and i like the 1.725 nut. not too small, not too big. the price is great. i saw a review on youtube between a 29, 15, and a 35. for me the 29 won but the 15 was close. does a set up effect the play up the neck..a barre e f, g? i feel it needs a little tweak for this section. cheers

    Nice introduction to what looks like a great guitar for the money.
    Small point, but I'd check the provenance of the Grover machine heads, which I was told by the company when I tried to sources spares, are no longer US produced.

    • @rsaathoff

      +Justin Bateman I played this guitar today and man is it easy to play. I've never played a J45, J35 & J15 until today. Just figured I could never afford one. But I saw the J15 price and now i think it may be the guitar I'm saving up for. It played and sounded great but some sloppy finish areas where the neck met the body and some overlap on the back of the bridge.
      Plays very different form a martin but it was extremely easy to play because of the scale length.

    I have one. Don't clean walnut fretboards with oil, not furniture polish or lemon oil, use naptha on a paper towel so you can keep the walnut fretboard bright and new.
    Naptha won't stain the fretboard. Keeps the walnut fretboard like new -by removing sweat stains in its uniquely colored pale wood hue grain

  • @kickpublishing
    @kickpublishing 5 років тому +1

    The only downside of this guitar is that black walnut fingerboard is not strong or dense enough to be the ideal material to hold frets - so when it comes to refretting this will need to be with extreme care and the new frets properly glued in because the tang alone will not be sufficient once the old frets have been removed

    • @tdc_2021

      It’s more like a standard. 12” radius like a J45 (the studios have 16” radius), and body size more comparable to the J45 too.

    This guitar will become a sought after classic. It is quite balanced. That this guitar came about with a reasonable price is kind of unusual given what a great guitar it turned out to be. Too bad it was a short lived guitar.

    Can you still get a guitar like the J160E that John Lennon Played.

    • @JesseDylanMusic
      @JesseDylanMusic 9 років тому +3

      ***** Yes, in fact, you can get many variations on it. The actual guitar he played was the original J-160E, and it had a ladder-braced, laminate top. It did not sound fantastic. However, he loved it, and they mic'd it up, and the way they recorded it sounds wonderful in so many Beatles songs. If you want that sort of sound out of a guitar, though, I'd go with something more like the J-15. Same body shape, solid instead of laminate spruce, x-braced instead of ladder-braced, and walnut back/sides instead of laminate. You could also get a J-160E, rather expensive, that is made with all-solid wood, but due to that solid wood and the x-braced construction, it probably won't sound any more like John's guitar than this J-15. It might also sound like a J-45, which is the same materials as the new J-160E.
      Epiphone also makes the EJ-160E. I played one and frankly thought it sounded terrible.
      Sorry for the mouthful, but I hope I've given you some info to satiate your curiosity.

      +Jesse Watson thanks for the info it's actually a piano I play but would love a guitar but the little Finger in my Left Hand locks and is slow to open I'm Right Handed.

    • @JesseDylanMusic
      @JesseDylanMusic 9 років тому

      ***** Does your little finger affect your piano-playing? Guitar-playing has made my little-finger a bit weird too ha! You could actually play without using your little finger. If you're heard of Django Reinhardt (sp?), he was missing a much more important finger than the little one, which caused him to create some pretty interesting chord voicings! Another option is to simply get a left-handed guitar and learn that way. I think anyone can learn either direction, really, and it is good for us right-handers to use our left for things. :) There are arguments about which hand is more important for guitar-playing. Some actually say the strumming/picking hand is more important (which is why that's what our primary hand does), but others say the opposite. Where there's a will, there's a way! Sorry for leaving you another wall of text :P

      Thanks for the sound advice my little finger doesn't affect my piano playing just a Guitar id love a guitar to play Dear Prudence,Julia Blackbird and Norwegian Wood.must try another Guitar out in a Local Shop.No problem on the Texts write anytime.

    • @JesseDylanMusic
      @JesseDylanMusic 9 років тому

      ***** Good choices in songs! Most of those were actually written and recorded on a Martin D-28. If you listen to the White Album demos (like on Anthology 3), you'll hear a lot of Martin D-28. Neat guitars. But to me, the Gibson sound is what really captures The Beatles. :) You'll have to try both! I'm selling my D-28 to buy a second Gibson. :)

    I tried one of these at GC in worster Ma. and it sounded horrible, out of tune, and the strings were very high off the frets, in my 30 yrs of playing exp, and as a singer songwriter I find G.C. to be very poor in taking care their acoustics as far as tuning and maintaining to appeal to potential buyers and customers , and for me as a musician that's a real problem. also why barely any Martin's except for the cheap ones at GC no MMM No D15 , and unlike zzounds who offers a pay as u go plan , even with not great credit can get good guitars. I really want an hd28 or mmv but zzounds does not offer, GC does, but bc their lender is so picky on credit ZZounds has a new customer :-) way to go Guitar center ur making many happy customers w zzounds

      Sounds like mostly knocking GC, here. I agree GC is negligent about guitar setups for demoing but for one to expect to pickup a guitar and it be in tune . . . come on! Correcting the tuning should take one less than a minute.

    Frankly the playing in the background sounded so awful that any notion I had of buying this instrument left my mind for good. I don't care if walnut grows faster than rosewood I want an instrument that has a great sound and understated good looks...in that order. This thing has neither. Oh Mr. Gibson, how far the mighty have fallen.
