Great topic to cover. Also wire size requirements always should be mentioned. Thanks for the time well spent.
Hey thanks for the idea.
Finally finished setting my system up, reviewed again this video as i need firmware updates on inverter and batteries bought last November. (Had to wait for ground thaw to do panel mounts).
Having same issues you did, only problem is no internet at solar shed. SS tech support told me how to use my phone to connect to inverter to update that but batteries are a problem! Guess i could take laptop out there after downloading updates....
Is it the lifepower4 or LL batteries?
The lifepower4 has the free updater from SS. It will auto update
I did hear on the forums that the LiFePower4 batteries didn't work without doing a firmware update. Thanks for showing how that worked. I ordered two EG4 LL batteries along with the 6000XP on Black Friday. Should be delivered the end of Dec so I'll be referencing your videos for any updates needed. Hopefully they just ship with updated firmware by then.
Hopefully updated already but if not it is pretty easy. You should really like this inverter
@@rodneyhuntagreed. Everything I've seen has been great.
Very useful video Rodney! Thanks very much for sharing.
Hey thanks!
Thanks Rodney! Building my power shed now and will have to go back and watch again later.
Yes, please do a video on performance . Want to see what i can expect with one inverter.
Thanks for this video. My lifepower batteries would not communicate with the 6000xp so doing the firmware for the batteries did the trick! I didn’t need to mess with firmware for inverter. Make sure you update the firmware separately for all batteries.
So you had to do all the batteries?
I did both batteries before turning on the inverter. Thought since I did one why not do them both right? I didn’t try to do just one and turn it all on again.
You should make one of those dolly setups with this inverter for a portable dual 240v system with one battery.
@@stevezark2152 would need a bigger dolly. This one is really too short. Maybe one day I can do a permanent portable build with this. Would like for it to fit in a vehicle so I could lend it out during emergencies.
Oh praise God!!! I think you might have saved my life!!! I will try this out this morning at my customers place. WE CANNOT GET THE AC POWER TO COME ON!! If I can't make this work, I'll have to rip it all out and re-install the old 24V lead acid system!! HE NEEDS AC POWER YESTERDAY!!!
Praise Yah!! My prayers were answered! It turns out to be some kind of communication issue between the LifePower4 batteries and the EG4 6000XP combo charge controller/inverter. The fix is to set the "master" battery DIP switches to 0000 and do a firmware upgrade on it from the 'net and reboot. I now have one of six batteries talking to the 6000XP (6,000W AC out/8,000W solar in) and that seems to be enough to keep it happy.
👍
Thanks for vid, mine is on its way, would love to see more testing with one unit and a battery or 2! Thanks!
Will do
Great video, Rodney!
Thanks Peyton
Awesome tutorial! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Very useful man
Glad it helped
I am pretty sure I would be upset if it wasn't 'plug n play'. Good for you.
I am used to it lol. Most things new will have some growing pains. As long as the hardware functions I can do a firmware update.
Thanks 👍
Welcome 👍
Should i update inverter or batteries first? Do i have to do just the master battery or all?
@@bobcole3852 usually all of them. I couldn’t get just the master to work but it would be worth trying. I would just update both if you can
Do you have all the dip switches on the battery in the down position?
Yes. I had communications working with this test setup. Should have a video out soon with 3 of the 6000xp’s hooked up running my house but having a communication problem when all batteries are hooked up so far.
For the update do the batteries need to be off? I have 2. Do the dip switches all have to be down with it off or can they be on?
I turn them all off except the one that I am updating. Dip switches set down on the one you are updating as well
I've read on some of the other post that you have to use a special Eag4 read/write cable to update the firmware on the batteries. Looks like your using the rj45-usb that came with the battery? I'm getting ready to install my 6000xp and pretty sure I'll have to update the batteries and now not sure if I'll have to get the special read/write cable or can just use the one that came with it??
Any way, thanks for posting this. The walk thru on the download will be very helpful
Hopefully it works for you with no problems! Are you using lifepower4 or LL batteries?
@@rodneyhunt I have two lifepower batteries
What happens when the batteries are fully charged? Does it automatically stop charging or do you have to set it up for that?
It stops automatically. 👍
Man I really appreciate you!! thanks once more again. Enjoy the holidays
You too! 👍
Does the dip switch order matter for the update process
Down on the one you are updating. All communication cables disconnected though. 👍
@rodneyhunt i have 1 4 dip switch ll and 5 LL's with the 6 dip switches. thank you merry Christmas and happy holidays
@@tjmooney4181 I have only updated lifepower4. So not 100% sure on LL’s
So how did you get the update file to run? It says I need a program to run the BNC file. The program is from Russian company and there is no way to download it.
If you are trying to update the lifepower4 batteries then contact signature solar. They will send you a free plug and play updater if you purchased batteries through them. That is the easiest way!
@@rodneyhunt That's no fun, I like doing things the hard way. Also I want it done NOW! Well, I guess I will just do all six one at a time. Signature Solar tech support did send me the instructions on how to do it. You run the upgrade program from the BMS test program.
I have had problems doing it that way as well. So now I tell everyone about the plug and play solution if that doesn’t work out for you.
@@rodneyhunt Nope, couldn't get the update program to run. I will just set the inverter battery setting to lead acid and ordered the update device.
Do I need to do this for each battery separately or just 1?
I would guess just the one battery. I have not setup yet with my other batteries but I would guess as long as the host battery is communicating it can send all other battery info since they are talking to each other
@rodneyhunt great thanks so.much I'm headed to help someone update a lifepower4 battery in rack of 6 that won't charge or discharge
You can always put it on lead acid if you have problems with the update
@@tjmooney4181 Did you get it working?
@rodneyhunt thanks for asking, no we think his number 5 battery is dead so he plans to upgrade to a v2 and use as his master in his battery rack
My bat didnt come with that... Oh my gosh
The cable?
They will send it if you let them know. One cable for each order that has batteries is standard. So they may have missed it
Your battary isnt mounted level. Hopefully its okay but it should be mounted flat. Geez wtf you doing
This was a temporary cart setup for testing. These can absolutely be used standing up or sitting flat though. 👍
Thanks Rodney! Building my power shed now and will have to go back and watch again later.
Yes, please do a video on performance . Want to see what i can expect with one inverter.
Will get a video running some of the house with just one inverter soon! 👍
