6 years ago I accidentally became friends with the rich kids:
I had this girl in my class(I went to a private school) and she was so RICH, but I didn't know I would go to her mansion and play with her brother, we became Best friends: we went on private jets to Italy, to the Bahamas, to bora and all the fancy places.
I met so many rich kids because of her: but I never saw her as an opportunity I saw her as a friend...
next year we are going to New York: to University...

I would add that adding value to people around is key to success in any relationship you're building. Give value, you get value back. Doesn't matter if you're befriending rich, poor or purple. People want value in their lives.

@@trishamaecanoza7415 In general value can manifest in many different forms. Some rich people literally have nothing to offer but being rich. Others offer kindness, intelligence, energy, or beauty. It's really not a one size fit all. She talked about her friend being part of their group and then paying the tab on him for everything. Well that could be because he may have been much more intelligent than them and tutored them for free. Who knows. Barterinng is quite common among the rich. You do me a favour I do you a favour.

This video was super helpful because I go to a popular private university and feel weird befriending the rich kids because I don’t want to seem like an opportunist. Now I realize it doesn’t matter as long as i’m myself and don’t take it that seriously, we’re literally human beings lol.

I’m not rich, but I’ve recently been putting effort into appearing so. Instead of spending my savings on tons of cheap stuff, I’ve been saving and buying a few very nice things, and always buying snacks and drinks for my friends, giving them rides in my car. It feels nicer, and being the generous, classy one makes me the “rich friend”, even if we all have the same same middle-class parents

    • @eldenbook1

But how’s this gonna benefit you? U won’t even know if ur freinds are there for you or for your generousity.
Me personally I have been so generous to my “freinds” but most of them took it for granted.
Make urself happy before making other people happy and don’t be appear too weak, being generous is good but being too giving makes u look stupid.
U don’t wanna learn this the hard way, try testing ur friends.

I grew up as a somewhat "rich kid" (I guess idk what the cutoff for "rich" is here my dad's a doctor, was a member of a country club growing up, went to private grade school and highschool, had my public state college tuition completely covered by my parents' savings, my parents were able to help me put together a down-payment on a house at 25, so idk if that puts me in the "rich" category that we're talking about here or not) but tbh my advice if anyone ever wanted to be friends with me growing up or now is just to treat it like being friends with anyone else. I've always been happy to be friends with anyone as long as they're a chill, down-to-earth person. I never cared what walk of life any of my friends come from, but that's just me 🤷🏼‍♂️

I think there is a gap between the poor and the rich. Cases when the poor become friends of the rich are rare. And there are reasons for this: different views, hobbies and a generally different life. I remember an episode from the movie “Poor Things” where the main character looks at the poor people in the abyss...

I never knew that there was a sort of je ne sais quoi to this, as I naturally have been able to connect with folks of all backgrounds, including the more financially affluent, as a foster kid and orphan. But still, I never knew why the affluent kids and their parents have always sort of taken me in and extended opportunities to me - I always just sorta figured I got lucky to come across spaces and crowds so receptive towards me.

Do you have any advice for those of us on the Spectrum, who often have significant social difficulties and who are quite uncomfortable with meeting lots of new people and with networking?
We often have a rich inner life, see things from a different perspective, have lots of ideas, etc., but that neurological social barrier, and our tendency to mask and self-protect, or appear to be "weird" when we do try to be social, results in most people never finding out that we often do have something interesting to offer. 🤔
Most success philosophy and advice seems to assume the audience is neurotypical, which makes sense because some 95% of the population is that way, but we in the other 5% also dream for wealth and success.

Rather than meeting the rich, meeting the poor is an essential expression of living in solidarity with all of God's creation. By engaging with the poor, we seek not only to serve but also to learn from them, embracing humility and simplicity in our own lives. It's about seeing Christ in the least among us, building a community based on love, compassion, and mutual respect, while rejecting the materialism that often separates people. In doing so, we follow the Gospel call to care for the "least of these," recognizing that true wealth lies in relationships and the dignity of every human being.

If it were me, I would say "lets split the bill". All of us would pay in a amount equal in proportion that covers the total.

One question: Where will the money to hangout with them come from?
I have a lot of rich friends and have gotten several invitations to hangout with them. Yet, side aside expanding networks after getting along, even to get along with them and spend time with them are too expensive. That's when I started to prefer saving my money, which I earned after working hard, to hoping for an opportunity to happen in no estimable time.

That's seems to be one of the problems that these rich kids don't understand. Not everyone just has random money just to spend on expensive hobbies because of allowances or parents shelling out money constantly. Oddly enough, a lot of these rich kids try to act like they have taste and class but they don't have any. I would bet you money that there are so hard working average people destined for wealth who have much better taste than these spoiled rich kids.

For all the viewers here who themselves are rich, this video applies to you as well.
I used to be one of the ‘rich kids’ myself. Nothing extraordinary but not just middle class either. But, for some reason, I was quite antisocial or I guess very selective with whom I preferred to hang out with. In school for whatever reason I found ‘poorer’ kids more entertaining and fun to hang out with. Interestingly this was the case both in the school in my domestic country and also in my boarding school. In ‘luxury resorts’, whenever my parents would take me there, I didn’t communicate or match well with all the other kids there. For some reason, ‘richer’ kids seemed too ‘stuck up’ or ‘posh’ for me, they just annoyed me. They seemed quite selfish. Of course I was like that as well but felt like it wasn’t to the same extent.
I always wondered why that is. My guess is that they were raised by parents who were born rich or higher up themselves, whereas my parents were born dirt poor but got lucky. Also my parents are quite introverted which is unusual amongst rich people, so I didn’t really learn social skills or the importance of having friends like that.
The funniest part is that now that I’m grown and no longer that ‘rich’ because my parents ‘cut off’ their income from me so I can learn how to make my own money (plus difficulties in business due to the political situation in my country), I REGRET not making friends with all these rich kids, and kids that were richer than me. To this day I see their stories and posts on social media where they are still having fun as some of their parents still provide for them, they have access to all the connections in the world, and truly living hedonistic lifestyles. I miss access to all of these pleasures in life, but honestly I also feel quite lonely and miss them. I should have invested way more effort and time into socializing as a kid, even though I wasn’t poor.
