They probably could have crossed the tracks another 2 or 3 times before they would have been in any real danger of being hit by that train. But not really a very good idea to be taking those sorts of chances with trains either because of the amount of time that it takes for the train to stop.
Nothing to see here, except some very nice videography; the framing of Mt. Hood at the beginning, panning out to the perspective of the curve leading your eye as the train approached and passed, and ending nicely with the centered - and distant - Mt. Hood. Nice.

Being a ancient railway geek, I always view preserved steam loco vids so naturally I clicked on yours when I saw the loco. Awesome scenery, impressive locomotive even liked the whistle (bit more baritone than usual for a U.S. steam whistle). Luckily the jay-walkers didn't have I-pod speakers in their ears. ^^^@Napili54 .. I used to travel by over-night ferry from Wellington to Christchurch, New Zealand and then catch the Southerner Train (Silver Streak) Look-a-like at the Christchurch Train Station and Head on Down the Line 5-600 Miles south it was a Blast and very Scenic and invigorating Trip .. .
I feel like I was on that train for some reason as when I was in preschool I actually rode behind 4449 and Amtrak 156 (may 156 rip if not restored) where my dad and I rode from king street station (I think) to a bnsf yard somewhere in the area. Fun fact before the trip I actually sampled the Amtrak cascades talgo series six cars on the way to the starting point of the 4449 trip!
When I worked for the ATSF had the idiots that crossed the tracks been employees they would have been fired. Their unwise decision to cross the tracks was foolharty and they're fortunate not to have been injured. Their crossing was close enough for me.
It reminds me of Mt Rainer. A gorgeous back drop and setting. That train seem really huge, beautiful, and beastly at once. Do they still make trains that big? Certainly not as artistic. The way that thing came into sight around the bend was enough to make someone freeze in their tracks (and stumble on the tracks).

@@ErvansTrains We live by the tracks. We have to cross at a blind crossing, and it is a double track. There is no warning signal. We recently improved the county road, at our own expense on the south approach, but our neighbor, who owns the property beside the north approach will not allow us to cut the bank back on his property. He does not believe that the crossing is dangerous. He never has to cross it. We, on the other hand, have no alternative. Believe it or not, we still get along with the neighbor.

It's just plain stupid. If one them got a foot stuck in the rail then they'd be DEAD.

It is always better to be safe than sorry. It was drilled into our heads about train tracks. You can cross them but don't play around in doing so.

This is a great train, but that horn gives me the chills. Like a train letting you know it has bad intention. A real SOB bad ass train. lol J/K :-D
