I just figured it would be better to be safe than sorry just in case some day you might decide to enclose the deck and add weight to it. I didn’t see what kind of nails or how many you put in each board. Like you said,It should be fine
@@willie6185 I added support underneath the joists that you will see in the next vid if you check it out when we put it up and it will make more sense then. Thanks :)

You didn't pour any footers below the frost line? Won't the deck heave with the freeze/thaw, and sink into the mud when its wet? Also, not being secured to the ground its suseptible to the wind lifting it up.
You could play basketball on our ground here. And this is called a floating deck, it is pretty normal to build them this way, it isn't going to blow away unless there is a full hurricane.
you should plant a little chicken grass in the enclosed with them and maybe extend it a little so you don't have to worry about predators snatching them and eating them, ducks are awesome egg layers also.
We just did this randomly on our way home from camping so couldn't get joist hangers. You will see everything we did in the whole 3 part series. But the long and short of it is we set the rim joists on the 4x4s and then ran another 2x8 under all the other joists from one concrete block to the next to carry the weight of the joists since we didn't have hangers. You can see that in the following videos if you check them out. Hope that made sense.....Also, we attached bracing to the 4x4s later on too. All the best.
Interesting! Can I ask why you decided to do a truss style on the 2x2 rather than drilling into the 2x2 itself? I'm doing a DIY deck build and just curious. Thanks!
Mapleberry Farm oh 4x4’s lol. Yes. I’ve seen most drill the frame straight to the 4x4’s, curious why you chose to do it your way. Does it make it more stable?
@@johnopina3384 If you drill the frame to the 4x4s then it is only screws that would be holding all the weight, if you are going to run up the 4x4s to be used for railing posts then you could notch the 4x4 for more strength.
@@voidisyinyangvoidisyinyang885 There is no need for spacing between deck boards as they will naturally gap. And this is a 3 part build and I think I went over all that in part 3. All the best.
What about joist hangers? They are required for strength as even 3 nails will bend causing the joists to sag. And I've never seen a jurisdiction that doesn't require them.
It will make more sense in the next vid. Having said that, we do not need to follow building codes here, again, having said that, it will make sense in the next video.
