    Great video, I have been doing this for years. The best and easiest (although smelliest) is w a old soldering pen. Instead of making two, make three holes spread out on equal distance as if a triangle shape. Remember to seal the inner wheel holes w 5 min epoxy.
    It does help a lot on dust, water and to prevent tire ballooning.

    You should vent tires with a 1/8” pieice of brass tubing sharping the end of the tube with a xzacto knife the put it in a drill perfect holes

    Glue and cover the breather holes on the plastic wheels with tape, no sand will get inside of the tyre as long as they are glued properly all the way round. As with any rc, after each days running you are supposed to check the bead and add more tyre glue if they start to pull away. No sand can enter the tyre if the breather holes are sealed and the bead is sealed with glue all the way round the rim.

    Cutting the holes in a diamond shape makes more sense, but useing a Dremel is way easier. I used Gorilla tape for the 2 holes on the inside of the rims.

      Johnny I demo'd the official Traxxas way to do this BUT the best tip someone has posted was 'Use a round soldering iron', which is one of those Doh! Why didn't I think of that ideas, but as a fellow dremel lover I appreciate you posting the dremel solution!

    New owner who read the yellow sheet and now I have eight eighth inch holes in the tires. But I took an 1/8th inch brass tube that I sharpened on the inside with the combination on a Dremel and an Xacto knife. I then roughened up the outside to help clear the hole that I drill in the tire. I glued a brass rod on the other end to support the tube when tightened in the drill collet. This is the best way to do it with mounted tires. Scissors suck

      I now use a soldering iron! Gives neat round hole! Fast easy and no edges to worry over

  • @Rifson.wav1

    This works perfect, but don't use scissors. Just make a tiny round hole somewhere on the tire. Proline uses this technic for al there tires.

    And if you already cover up the 2 breather holes? Will it still collect sand?

    • @DriftomaniacsRC
      @DriftomaniacsRC  6 років тому +1

      Now someone on the FB page mentioned that, they also mentioned that sand seems to get in regardless of those holes being filled in. I'm wondering on full throttle if they balloon in sand? Gaps in glue then letting sand in. A question for traxxas. I just highlighted what they recommend.

    Should be in the center/middle of the tire. As the while pushing the debris inside will push out. Off center like this more to aside will not remove all debris. As the tire will now only be able to push out debris to the sides and in center debirs will form and not be able to get to hole. So must be dead center of tire width.

      that's one of those 'Doh!' why didn't I think of that tips! Post much appreciated. A soldering iron will put a round hole in the tire, which should give the tire better strength than the recommend traxxas 'cuts'. Top tip I have a soldering iron and am still thinking DOH!

    I noticed something the other day when I took my tires off and they had the sand for sure. The front tires have foam and the rears do not. I don’t know how that affects this but thought I’d share.

    Just watched the TRAXXAS support how to vent the UDR tyres, you have got it all wrong, go watch it all who may watch this.

    • @DriftomaniacsRC
      @DriftomaniacsRC  5 років тому +2

      The video they brought about a month AFTER I shot this one? which by the way this video follows EXACTLY the way the traxxas leaflet shows that's included with the UDR!!!!! Also no offence but if you already know how to do this why on earth are you watching a video on it????? Oh and by the way as another user suggested the best way to do this is very simple....use a soldering iron to make a small round hole in the tire. I'm just lost as to why you'd want to watch other videos on it if you know the best way anyway..... Of note is my tires are sand free and show no issues around the holes I cut in them. Guess my bad instructional video just works....

  • @udishtelman687
    @udishtelman687 6 років тому

    Wouldn't it be better just to glue the breather holes?

    • @DriftomaniacsRC
      @DriftomaniacsRC  6 років тому

      I'd write to traxxas and suggest it, note it's the mod they suggest to do! I think the issue is that in sand the wheels probably spin up and sand can gain entry if the tires balloon. Guessing that's the issue

  • @highridinf250
    @highridinf250 4 роки тому

    All I did was cover up the vent holes in the rim

    • @DriftomaniacsRC
      @DriftomaniacsRC  4 роки тому

      all this video did was show how traxxas recommend doing it. Best way seems to be to use a soldering iron, fast easy and neat round holes that don't tear, also the whole idea is the holes are in the outside of the rim so the air gets expelled as the tires rotate, however with the holes on the inside you won't be easing the problem anywhere near as much. If that were the case then doesn't it occur to anyone traxxas would supply the rims with holes in them. They advised venting the outside of the tire for a reason......

  • @thatdrewguy2007
    @thatdrewguy2007 6 років тому +1

    Tire venting is not new. But for the love of god please do not use scissors to do it! Use a small brass tube in a drill chuck for a smooth clean hole, an put holes at 180 degrees apart around the tire. Be careful not to ruin the inner foam. It’s easy to do with a regular drill bit.

    • @DriftomaniacsRC
      @DriftomaniacsRC  6 років тому +2

      It's traxxas instruction sheet not mine!!!! It may not be new to you but I guess it is to most people getting a UDR otherwise traxxas wouldn't have mentioned it. I've not seen this sheet on any of the other cars and I've unboxed nearly every one from new. That's why I highlighted it.! I suggest writing to traxxas over the use of scissors, I don't work for them! Note I mention about the danger of usign a drill bit hence the dremel, which has a different tip on it compared to a drill. I'm thinking a 1/8 piece of rod/tube heated over a naked flame would work best. Alas I have an electric hob!

    • @zubuxstein
      @zubuxstein 5 років тому

      use a old soldering iron, way easier, just make sure there is enough ventilation.

  • @withallduerespect8034

    Why didn't they do this if it's that important?

    • @DriftomaniacsRC
      @DriftomaniacsRC  6 років тому +1

      Ask Traxxas! IIt's their recommendation! The way the paper insert is put in (It's ine battery compartment so you can't put batteries in without reading/seeing it!) it occurs to me this may have been an after thought/later mod/recommendation. That's why I highlighted it e.g. has everyone seen it. It occurred to me earlier shipments might not have had it in. Guessing they've had a few claims for fried out motors and esc's.

    • @ToGrimmToWin
      @ToGrimmToWin 5 років тому

      Driftomaniacs I don’t think that’s why. Several people got water in the tires and without drain holes water collected in the tire and explode them easy.

    Use a clamp of some sort to pinch the tyre..

    • @DriftomaniacsRC
      @DriftomaniacsRC  6 років тому

      yes it's like a two person job as that tire needs a really hard squeeze e.g. not a natural movement to do

  • @rcsendandblast1579
    @rcsendandblast1579 5 років тому

    Why not just use a old metal antenna tube in a drill sharpen the circle end and cut a Perfect hole with no flappies that will be caught and rip the tire when it catches on something.
    It's much better to cut round holes not this style
    Since I've put the proper draining holes in my tires they haven't worn out at all.
    And that's surprising seems how the stock tires were Dead in 2 days.

    • @DriftomaniacsRC
      @DriftomaniacsRC  5 років тому +2

      Micheal this was a demonstration of the method traxxas recommend, not the best method, not my idea or yours, just the one they recommend in the instruction. Hence the title 'Traxxas UDR Tire modification' not 'Driftomaniacs UDR tire modification'. Please don't shoot the messenger. Also by far and the best way anyone has suggested so far? Get a soldering iron, it makes a neat round, sealed hole in a second. That said this is on the original tires with no issues and they don't fill with sand!
