  • The Airport is flying along, it looks well ahead of schedule, Multiplex has done a great job so far in the Construction work, It went from a paddock to an airport terminal in around 2 years.
Im sure there's a lot of work to go in commissioning all the Services and of course the flight systems and baggage systems.
    well done to all involved.
    Cheers

Once the airport reaches maximum size in the next couple decades, I wonder if Kingsford Smith is gonna go down a similar route to Ataturk in Istanbul where it exclusively becomes a cargo airport

I think Kingsford Smith will actually have 0 cargo, at the moment they use the cargo gates for overflow international flights so I actually wonder if it'll be more of a Heathrow/Gatwick style team-up and they extend the international terminal over the current cargo area. Most, if not all of the cargo looks to move to Nancy Bird.

There is a large cargo precinct being built on the south end WSI which will operate 24/7

I'd say use land for housing, if I am the owner.

I used to import freight via container and air. The was urgent freight so being only 25k from the airport is convenient. Sydney airport cannot support freight only as we don't import big volumes via air and landed costs results in higher costs. I know the Chinese airlines if in non peak times what they don't fill with passengers they fill with airfreight.

    G'day it's Steven from Sydney
This major infrastructure project makes me proud to be an Aussie.
I watch all these videos on a 65 inch 4K tv and it's cool to see all the details.
One thing I struggle with regarding this all new airport is that the former state government opened Leppington station in February of 2015 with the intention of eventually linking it to the proposed future airport, instead they decided to link the new airport to stations in another direction and away from the city of Sydney, a link to Leppington would lead travellers through Liverpool and towards the city of Sydney, now travellers being forced to travel in the opposite direction, it doesn't make sense, plus this new airport falls within Liverpool municipality, and it was my understanding that Liverpool CBD was the third largest CBD in Sydney, so what is in place to transport travellers towards Sydney via Liverpool?
Also there's no doubt that this new airport will be the most modern and sophisticated of its kind in the world, however based on its current appearance it looks nothing more than a large logistic centre, there's nothing iconic about its design so far which is certainly disappointing, all I can see is paddocks and concrete, and not a hint of anything memorable, iconic or Aussie.

I guess this is what we get for 5 billion

Hi Steve, I too am so proud of this project and I watch all his videos on my big tv! I completely 100% agree with everything you’ve said. But $5 BILLION is a lot of money. I’m sure it could have been at least a more cutting edge shape. If it were Shanghai or Dubai it would look amazing. We needed architecture with the likes of Zaha Hadid! Now that would be breathtaking.

It's kinda strange really. The current airport finally has the road network it always needed just as the Western Sydney airport comes online. Ah well, progress I guess. Just need to get rid of tolls.

oh dear!...it already looks like a very dull design and not very 'exhausted traveller friendly'.. it seems like a long walk to the metro..and where are the drop off n pick up points?

A, this Airport when commissioned will have been built by Tax Payers money ,future improvements will be done with airport profits. For all those critics who feel this is in the middle of nowhere. Where can you fit the next 5 million or more population into greater Sydney over the next 100 years.

SYD's terminals are a disgrace like its for a regional city of half a million, whereas this turned out way nicer than i anticipated. The terminal buildings between this and SYD needs to be swapped around.
