Couple of a sports ones. How’s about The Premiership on ITV, their version of Match of the Day? They chose to start it at 7pm initially, when everyone was out or going out and they had Andy Townsend’s tactics truck, which didn’t last long. No wonder BBC eventually got the rights back. Also, when BBC changed Today at Wimbledon to Wimbledon 2day and brought in a studio audience. It didn’t work and they reverted back to the old format after a few days.
Also, gotta mention the Chris Evans’ Top Gear series which was never going to reach the heights of the Clarkson, Hammond and May era.

Probably to appease Des Lynam, as one of his gripes was Match of The Day went out late.
The 7pm slot too was home to shows like Blind Date. During the Premiership's 7pm run, it was damaging ITV's audience shares on Saturday nights and handing an advantage to BBC1.
In the end, they moved it to 10.30pm like MOTD and the Saturday night repeat was moved to Sunday morning (like MOTD).

It did have a sort of charm to it, even though it immediately gave off those "this is going to be rubbish isn't it?" vibes when you saw the premise - not least because it looked like a cut-price _Fawlty Towers_ of course. I was actually a lot more impressed by it than I thought I would be though, because it had the wit to aim higher than 'necessary': it was a good deal more surreal and bigger in scope than one would've expected from the small parochial setting, in other words. I seem to recall the characters actually invaded a small African country in one episode!

The Share and Shaft game show reminded me of another from the early 2000s. I think it was called "Divided" on ITV where things could turn very nasty between the contestants towards the end. Eg: the least competent contestant could screw the other two more able ones for a greater share of the final prize. It was very uncomfortable to watch.
Upon reflection, a lot of TV shows in the early 2000s had a nasty element to them. For example: "The Weakest Link" where contestants get voted off. I think this is when I started to go right off television.

Jeez, Kilroy. Is it share, or is it shaft? The look on his face and the way he clenched his hand, I always expected him to say, "So is it share? Or is it fist?" Truly frightening.

Brighton Belles is one of the rare instances where the British made a bad adaptation of an American show. Usually it's the other way around. Would it be possible for you to do a list of the worst American versions of British tv shows?

I remember curry and chips. Spike could make pretty much anything funny. Not sure about the 'satirical racism defence'. This seems still to be in use (with variants) when 'alternative' comedians wish to make jokes about, for example, disabled people, old people, and so on. It's a bit like having your fingers crossed behind your back and thinking that makes it OK to lie. But poor old Anna Lee. Your clips look dire. I love the books and Imogen Stubbs is a fine actor (although not on this showing). I was actually thinking of getting the Anna Lee vids. Not now.

There was a series I think late 80's / early or late 90's called star turn the host was Giles Brandraeth and a woman called Beverley . A bit like a poundland talent show. If I remember correctly Various acts or turns would do thier act and the audience would give thier verdict but it doesn't matter if you win as the score was divided by 11 then multiplied by 11 and 11 added (god knows why ) and the Beverley woman had trouble adding the scores (a la Anne Aston on the golden shot a very long time ago).
