Chalk was great ,I always felt it was wrote for rik Mayal but they couldn't get him so the actor just did his best rik,the rest of the shows deserve to be forgotten 🤷♂️
Wondered when the Warren Mitchell sitcom was going to come up. Wasn't great but as an Englishman living in Belfast it struck a chord. Nice to see "vampire Bill" from true blood in an early role in the last clip.
About Face was more comedy drama than sitcom, there were some excellent characters in there. I really liked The Big One and How Do You Want Me? Really sad that Charlotte Coleman died so young.
I remember Chalk for sure. It was pretty surreal stuff. How Do You Want Me? I saw maybe one episode, wasn't into it. No idea on the other 8 though but I appreciate the Cordelia Bugeja picture in the thumbnail!
Thanks for these it helps jump start my memory of stuff I'd forgotten about, but also showing stuff I don't recall at all - love seeing actors when they are younger/up & coming in old shows.
He lost a lot of weight (he needed to!). He did appear in Doctor Who (Angels in Manhattan) and was barely recognisable from his WLIIA days. IMDB says these days he's been in a show called NCIS (no, I've no idea what that is, either!) I recall the show he did with Sandi Toksvig mainly for the fridge - in order to open it you had to hit it twice, kick it and say b*st*rd (IIRC)
Surprised that there were only 7 eps of The Big One. Not because it was any good, just that I remember it. That and Chalk. Adequately funny. Kinda sad that Charlotte Coleman popped up in a couple of these forgotten relics. She deserved more.
Great channel.... I remember trying to look up Sitcoms and series from the 80s and 90s just to try and find them forgotten ones but wasn't helpful. I litually never heard of any of these and great to see so much of these oddities
The only one I remember was The Big One, can't remember any details but I liked it at a lot at the time. If I recall correctly Sandi Toksvig & Mike McShane got the gig due to the audiences reaction of their performances together on Who's Line Is It Anyway.
Remember Big One, plus vaguely recall Chalk. The fact the Warren Mitchell sitcom only gets 3 seconds of footage of a plane landing says enough. Only Marks/Gran comedy I liked was The New Statesman
Cordelia Bugeja was also in Respectable, featured in the first forgotten 90s sitcoms. She made the newspapers because she was in about half a dozen adverts all running concurrently.
I only clicked on this cos she was on the thumbnail, and not even a clip of her. I was in love with her on Family Affairs, then she and her whole family were wiped out in a boat explosion.
Your title is pretty accurate. I'm fairly sure I watched tv in the 90s but I've never either watched or even heard of any of these. Maybe I was living in an alternative UK in another dimension or something.
Oh my gosh, I have the whole boxset of How Do You Want Me and I'm on the other side of the pond. Not so great. But I love Peter Serafinowicz. I remember Freddie & Max - we actually got that here.
Haven’t forgotten any of them as it presupposes I was aware of them in the first place. Whatever I was doing in the 90s watching sitcoms wasn’t one of them, I can’t even recall any of the titles let alone the content.
I can't believe you didn't mention the late great Charlotte Coleman (AKA Marmalade Atkins) in your segment about 'How do you want me ?' I had a real crush on her when I was a kid... Ahh happy days.
I can safely say without fear of contraception and I am unanimous in that, that I have absolutely no recollection of any of these shows. Thank gawd for that.
Forgotten? I Never watched these shows in the first place. I was not aware of their existence until I saw this episode. I think it is reasonable to say that 99% of British Sitcoms are not worth watching. That's why I love this channel, it consistently reinforces my hypothesis.
Don't recall any of these, thank God! I must have been doing other things at the time - like getting very drunk in student-filled pubs and playing pool (winner stays on, 20p a frame) and such like. You know, worthwhile activities?
I thought I was going to go through the whole episode without knowing any of them then Conjugal rights appeared. Caroline Quentin was a bit out of her league in Johnathan Creek I thought.
She wasn't a likeable person back then. Anyone catch her on Have I Got New For You opposite her then partner Paul Merton? What a nasty b***h she was to him.
Thankfully I don't remember any of these which provides I spent the whole of the 90's either pissed out of my head or gurning my own face off at some all nighter!! Oh and I was a squaddie for whole decade....forgot to mention that bit 😂
Ah, Chalk. That's a show I remember from my teenage years that I couldn't remember the name of. I vaguely remember not massively liking it even though it had a fair amount of hype at the time.
Another fan of The Big One here... or at least, it deserved a second season. I heard that Season 2 scripts were written. Sandi, we need to know what happens!
I didn't forget about any of these, as I never knew them to begin with. I wish I had known at least a couple of them, but absolutely nothing sprung to mind. I'm quite disappointed, really. I guess with most only running for one series, they can't have caught on, or were scheduled when there was something else better on t'other side.
I remember 3 weird BBC ones, one about a town called Flatby (maybe?!) trying to get independence from the UK, one set in a bakery that wasn't funny, and one about doctors with Felicity Montagu and the dad from 2.4 children.
Most of these are rubbish and I never heard of them. I agree with you that Caroline Quentin spoilt every show she was in. I loved Johnathan Creek but she spoilt all the scenes she is in.
I remember that Warren Mitchel sitcom being terrible as a 8 year old... Now that I might actually be old enough to appreciate it, it sounds even worse.
How Do You Want Me? was sadly a serious case of unfulfilled potential as it managed to be pretty forgettable, generic and destined for obscurity despite a fantastic cast that included Dylan Moran, Peter Serafinowicz, Mark Heap, Frank Finlay and the “gone too soon” duo of Charlotte Coleman and Emma Chambers …
I don't remember them!!!. To be honest, I find the 1990's a forgettable decade , for TV , films and music and me personally. It all went down hill from 1989. The golden age was over and the 90's was a new wave that did not appeal to me. Dreadful bomp bomp bomp music, rave, rap, grunge, awful. 1990 I stopped being a teenager . I have blocked a lot out from the 90's. My father died in 1991, my grandfather Bill went into a nursing home the same year. By 1994 I was in a job I hated, a relationship I wasn't happy in and in a rut. The 1990's is not a decade I look back on with find nostalgia like I do for the 1970's and 80's. It's got worse since then, but at least my personal life is far better now but I rarely watch TV these days, and I certainly don't listen to the rubbish they call music today.
You just listed a few things why i think the 90s were the best decade! Rave, grunge, rap ‐ brilliant! It probably helped that the 90s was when i was a teenager
I enjoy these light hearted looks at the past of which I am part but the reference to the late Charlotte Colman's "knockers" had a bit too much glee. She died young and tragically and it felt nasty. Please do your research or don't do anything. I enjoy your shows but please.....
'How do you like me' and 'chalk'. I remember turning both off before one episode. I'm glad I missed the rest of the ones on this list, though, they look terrible.
Caroline Quentin is annoying, no doubt about it. Towards the end of Men Behaving Badly it was almost unwatchable because of her and Deborah's constant shrill whining and nasty little comments.
I don't think anyone would ever forget Black Books! Too funny, brilliant and surreal. 😀🎉
Black Books wasn't mentioned.
Dylan Moran can never better Black Books, ‘Bernard’
Black Books was phenomenal. An absolute who's who of great British actors.
I loved that series
Chalk was great ,I always felt it was wrote for rik Mayal but they couldn't get him so the actor just did his best rik,the rest of the shows deserve to be forgotten 🤷♂️

Chalk was produced by the Dr. Who show runner, how sad !
I have the same opinion of Caroline Quentin as you !!
Those sitcoms were forgotten for a reason, so bad. Maybe you should do an episode on a sole sitcom, like the Brittas Empire, or Are You Being Served?
Love the videos btw ! But how did u get a warning from Charlotte Coleman on you tube? She died on 2001
I was thinking that or maybe I've missed a joke somewhere in the video..
@@vinceely2906 I know 😀 was just being facetious
I remember Chalk for sure. It was pretty surreal stuff. How Do You Want Me? I saw maybe one episode, wasn't into it. No idea on the other 8 though but I appreciate the Cordelia Bugeja picture in the thumbnail!
Best channel on you tube. And I spend a lot of time on here. Thanks man
Wow, thanks!
Thanks for these it helps jump start my memory of stuff I'd forgotten about, but also showing stuff I don't recall at all - love seeing actors when they are younger/up & coming in old shows.
Sandi Toxic starred in a sitcom? Dear lord.
Yes. Another perfect 10. Managed to miss even hearing of any of these.
RIP Charlotte Coleman.
Happy this channel got recommended to me! Great content
Brilliant
MIke McShane - there's a blast from the past. I wonder what he's up to now?

And she's still in ads today! Funny she never had many TV roles, she was pretty good in Respectable.
I don't like Caroline Quentin either.
If I remember, the original barbed comment was made by a user named "C.Quentin69".
Does anyone?
In real life she’s actually quite sweet, but her acting personae tend to be somewhat excruciating.
@@ronwhite8503 no we all dislike her
I didn't mind chalk.
How Do You Want Me was actually pretty good, mostly due to the fantastic cast, Frank Finlay & Peter Serafinowicz were excellent.
Well done (I love your work) I don't remember any of them! these are the first ones where I 100% have missed.
Excellent call!!!
Many thanks!
Your title is pretty accurate. I'm fairly sure I watched tv in the 90s but I've never either watched or even heard of any of these. Maybe I was living in an alternative UK in another dimension or something.
So pleased that I have never heard of any of them yet alone watched them!
I thought the Lumley one looked like it had possibilities.

Neither could I. The 90's are a forgettable decade for me.
Likewise. And I'm a 90s kid who watched too many sitcoms.
Can't say I've ever heard of any of them!
I can safely say without fear of contraception and I am unanimous in that, that I have absolutely no recollection of any of these shows.
Thank gawd for that.
I have been waiting for Conjugal Rites to appear. It was written by New Zealand playwright Roger Hall
I was waiting for that BBC1 one with an old Jewish ghost woman who lives with a classic sitcom family, but it never arose.
I think he's done that one already.
Yup. Never heard of any of those!
Forgotten? I Never watched these shows in the first place. I was not aware of their existence until I saw this episode.
I think it is reasonable to say that 99% of British Sitcoms are not worth watching. That's why I love this channel, it consistently reinforces my hypothesis.
Would love to see a video of 90s fly on the wall shows you probably forgot about - e.g Airport, The Cruise, Driving School
Good idea 👍

Curious, I loved Mulberry, but it didn['t last long. No clue if it is a well known show over here in Britain.
I think I'd give In Exile a watch.
Chalk seems like an alright one to check out
Good job. With the exception of a vague memory of conjugal rights I don't remember any of those.
Didn’t know one of them

I didn't remember the show at all, but that theme tune brought back some memories from somewhere. Funny how that works.
The Anne Bancroft one might have succeeded in the US.
I was waiting for In exile to appear. I remember watching this on Channel 4.

In Chalk, Slatt was actually the deputy.
I liked The Big One, if only for the strange thing Sandi's character had to do to get the fridge open!
Another fan of The Big One here... or at least, it deserved a second season. I heard that Season 2 scripts were written. Sandi, we need to know what happens!

I thought The Big One was hilarious and was disappointed they didn't make another series.😊
I'll admit it, it's just worrying that I don't remember
How do you want me had an amazing cast
I must have been out a lot when these were on, I don’t remember any of them! Not that I missed much, by all accounts…
The only ones I have heard of are 'About Face' and 'Conjugal Rights'.
The one with Dylan whatshisname looks good
I honestly cannot remember any of these shows. But why can I remember the "forgotten" shows from the 70s and 80s when I was much younger?

Wow whose idea was making a sitcom set in northern Ireland during the troubles called' so you think you've got troubles'. Alan partridge?
Who is the younger woman in the thumbnail and what series is she from?
What a about the sitcom WATCHING and 2.4 children.
How Do You Want Me? had quite the cast, can only assume the writing was the issue with thast one...
Yes I forgot them all a first
These atrocities are a crime against comedy.
Charlotte " Marmalade Atkins" Coleman died years ago, so her estate will protect her history!
Considering the abilities of the actors involved that's some parade of turkeys. Almost impressively turgid, like anti-comedy.
