The Future of Palestine

- The continued viability of a two-state solution has never been more uncertain than it is today. Efforts to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through a U.S.-brokered peace plan has drawn widespread skepticism. Attempts by Palestine to gain international recognition through the UN or among members of the EU has been met with tepid success. The rise of a more hardline Israeli government and continued unrest in Gaza has further complicated Palestinians’ hopes for self-determination. Given this context, is it time for Palestinians to look for new approaches?

If you want to solve the problem, you have to remove the US as a broker and appoint someone else.
Correct. Whenever USA is... There is (are) problem (s) .
@nauxsi yeah like who?
Nobody needs to be a broker here. Only parties to be Israelis and Palestinians.
@@JoeShmo8868 Like no one. before the west interfered jews and Arabs were doing great together but after the west came they hate each other. we should let israel and palestine talk alone without the USA or other country. another thing is that the USA supports the two-state solution while both the people want the same land so the only option is to live together, and as I said it happened already so it could be like that again.

They didn't. They rejected Barak's initial offer (rightly) in 2000, but negotiations continued at Taba, Egypt in 2001 until ISRAEL walked away from those. Apart from the israeli state there has only been colonial occupation of this territory whether by egypt Persia rome or turkey
After ww1 turkey ceded ottoman palestine to britain as settlement and britain declared it the jewish homeland
Palestinians in turn created the kingdom of jordan in 1922 east of the jordan river taking the lions share of ottoman palestine and leaving israel with the scraps from the river to the sea in effect a 2 state solution
Give one reason that the land called West Bank is occupied?
Just one.
June 5th 1967 it was part of Jordan.
There was no Palestinian claim.
June 6th combined Arab armies attacked Israel (there was no occupied territories then!!)
(what did they want to "liberate"?!!!)
They lost the war in six days.
Jordan disowned the land.
The only people in the history that had sovereignty over this land are the Jewish people. (Google it!)
Two thousand years old Jewish: coins, structures and tombs are all over the land.
Any Palestinian ancient tombs?
Of course not.
The word Palestinian is an oxymoron.
The name was imposed on the land by a foreigner, a Roman General.
Check it out and laugh at Palestinian claims.
cohen here is the best reason. Well before Israel's so called existence the land of the lavant was called many names that led to the name of filastin or Palestine . Retunu, djaih , pulustu , prest , pelest all meant the land from the Euphrates river to mt. Sinai all the way to the Jordan valley wich became the region of Palestine, with the indigenous Palestinians that came with that land just like any other people or nation. Even in the beliefs of mythology the old testament says a tribe from Iraq called the israelites migrated to Palestine and where promised the land of Palestine as a piece of real estate . Also just to refresh your memory Jordan was called Palestine. Look at older maps. Your problem is you use google for your proof of info and that is your first mistake . Netanyahu had been caught lying on 2 different occasions publicizing the finding of ancient israeli coins , they where tested and turned out to be fakes and that filthy human being still displayed these fake coins along with fake recenty man made artifacts on so called Israeli archaeology. The most Recently found Dead Sea scrolls where found to be fakes . There is also a museum in israel that claims they have found Solomon's temple but unhrwa along with other organizations dont recognize this temple because it's a fake aswell. Many Palestinian antiquities and artifacts have been found and destroyed and or sold off .. israel in 1948 immediately started a :erasure : program of all of Palestine along with the help of the British . Do your due diligence of studying the geopolitical landscape of Palestine or the lands of the lavant and only than will you understand factual history .

@macdonald tramp on the contrary, the old leaders would not negotiate and build a state, but rather would keep the situation the same so they could forever get European and American money (only lately its Qatari). If they wanted a state, they could have already had one.

Mehdi Hassan is so pissed off when a Palestinian official tells him very clearly that he and the Palestinians don't want to live in one binational state and that they want to live separately in a Muslim Palestinian country with no Jews . Mehdi is a Muslim who grew up in the UK, therefore he assumes from his own perspective that all Muslims just want to live in a modern democratic country. He also knows that if Israel becomes a binational state, she will become economically weaker and the Israeli citizens who built this country will pay the price, which is something that he will be very delighted to see..... Unfortunately for him (and fortunately for me ) eirikat basically throw his fantasy under the buss by saying very clearly : "we don't want one binational state, we want a Palestinian state"...... basically supporting the narrative of the typical right wing in Israel : a Jewish state .

Absolutely no intervention from countries especially US and Iran. If Israel lost the war, they have to leave and so do the Palestine if they too lost the war.

You are a kinda stupit embarrassing fool, stupit stupit half wit,
Continue war with Israel? Who came to whose neighborhood? Who raised the first rifles to whose head? The Palestinians have no power equal in the arena. The war was declared on them and has never ceased. The Israelis don’t want this “war” to end; because the Israelis gain so MUCH from it continuing without end - they owe their economy and homes and lives and military to the American wage earner and our corporate elitist masters. The fact that the Palestinians are STILL HERE 70 plus years later is a miracle of miracles. And Iranian “backing” is hard;y anything akin to the US giving weapons mass destruction. The Zionists brought European Anti-Semitism and fascism with them when they entered that region. They’ve killed so many Palestinians that they have ENSURED this will last forever. And the US has adopted endless war from these people and the manners in which they maintain a perpetual state of war.
Let it settle the old way. david and goliath way.
who came to whose neighbour? Look at archeological evidence who build Jerusalem and city of David?

In actual collegiate history and archeology, the Babble isn’t even among the required historical texts as degree studies. And the people who have invaded that region from Europe are about as genetically related to the people of ancient times as I am a frigging Eskimo. Funny thing, I am sure, if you test the DNA of the people of Palestine today, you’ll see they ARE carrying the genes of most of the peoples of history of that region as the Arabs waves that swot across absorbed nearly - except most of the Mizrahi Jews that remained - all of them. Ironically, some are probably of Middle Eastern Jewish ancestry too!…Ha! Read Prof. David Lambs book The Arabs - or any of his books on the history of the region. It’ll sober you up between spinning dreidels. And don’t even bring in that sick Jim Crowe idea that there was never anyone living BEFORE JEWS because that is an utter fallacy and lie as the even Hebrews betray that as their own “holy book” admits to overt acts of genocide of their own Semitic speaking cousins - Yeah Hebrew is a dialect of The people that behind those walls of Jericho.

ForEver Palestine
Until the Six Day War in 1967, the term “Palestinian” meant a Jew living anywhere “between the river and the sea”. Successful efforts of Arab propaganda resulted in an Orwellian switch of the definition. Today’s “Palestinians” are simply Arabs who came from anywhere at all and settled on the land that belongs to Israel. This hardly makes them a people.
I don't understand or know enough about Palestine or Israel to say anything really meaningful, the one thing I can never agree with is the killing of children and innocent men and women, no matter what the cause, and what I've seen from the Palestinian videos, is men celebrating when they are successful in killing people in their own homes, I don't like the fact that the Palestinian fighters are hiding amongst the innocent people of Palestine, that puts innocent people in harms way.
I think that the Israeli army telling the people in Palestine where and when they are going to be dropping bombs (to give people a chance to leave the targeted area is a good thing)
But the Jewish people in Israel have to realise they were accepted, and all people were able to live and let live, the fact that religious extremists seem to be at the heart of the problems, on both sides of the argument, shows how intolerant both religions are.
The Palestinian leadership never missed an opportunity to miss an opportunity

You and her proved that you were not able to lead the Palestinian people to freedom so when you will step down and give others a chance to find other path
I have no reason to doubt that Arab families has lived in the area you call Palestine for a thousand years. A thousand years is a very respectable chunk of time. The Hebrews families has lived there five times that long, but even that is not the point. If Arabs can use prolonged residence to support territorial claims, then, as a fair person you no doubt are, you should agree that Jews must have the same right. Would you be ready and willing to support similarly based Jewish territorial claims against Egypt? Iraq? Saudi Arabia? Lebanon? Jordan? Yemen? Ethiopia? Iran? All of Europe? Unless your only concern is the destruction of Israel, you must.
If however you are saying that a thousand-year-long history in the area entitles your family to remain there, I will agree with you wholeheartedly. Each one .of us has a right to live wherever we choose - as long as we do not engage, either directly or indirectly, in attempts to exterminate our neighbors.
NobleCrow10
Your logic is a farce and you know that. Those Arab families have been continuously there for the last 1000 years as you said. And so were 10% of the population of British mandated Palestine who were Jews. The rest of the Israeli population was brought and planted from the outside. This is utter nonsense to think anyone in the world can stand and claim at any point of time that because their ancestors during a pre-historical time lived in such and such countries therefore they are entitled to occupy the lands of those countries.
@@anaesthesia1549 , The leaders of the mythical, so called “Palestinian People” have unanimously and unambiguously announced their opposition to the Trump Peace Plan: they are concerned about the stability in the region. Mahmud Abbas, with an uncharacteristic frankness caused undoubtedly by the sense of extreme urgency, expressed it by saying that the plan “will open the gates of hell”. He was most probably right. The American peace plan would open the gates of hell and the largest and most successful in history terrorist organization, cynically named “The Palestinian People”, would be promptly escorted through. This is precisely what Hamas and PLO rulers are afraid of. That's why they are so worried about the stability in the region.
But what is the stability in that region if not a synonym for the status quo, a status quo which includes, among a trainload of other extremely unpleasant things, the never-ending war of all Arabs against Israel, their enthusiastic support of terrorism, ruthless oppression of every human freedom everywhere within their reach and aggressive export of the most militant variety of Islam into the civilized world - in a single word, Islamic Jihad?
Why would we want to preserve such stability?
And why does the United States need to maintain such an expensive army if it is never going to use it to defend itself and its allies?

An article in the recent New York Times describes a quintessential innocent civilian - a 10-year-old boy from Tulkarim named Abdul - shot to death by an Israeli soldier. The article, among other things, tells us that Abdul was described by his friends as the smartest kid in his class and that his dream was to become a martyr. Unfortunately for everyone, Abdul wasn't smart enough to abstain from throwing stones at Israeli soldiers, which was exactly how he became a martyr. Fortunately for us, this was not the kind of martyrdom Abdul had in mind: he did not die killing infidels. I can't help asking an ultimately cynical question: how many Israeli or American children would I be willing to sacrifice to allow him to grow up and fulfill his dream? Would four yeshiva students be enough to pay for Abdul's 77 eternal virgins, or should it be something on the scale of September 11?
Saeb Erekat got the most applause by talking about pronouncing democracy for all Arab nations - Remind us when did the PA/PLO last hold democratic leadership elections? If you are so sure that “Palestine, the country, goes back through most of recorded history”, I expect you to be able to answer a few basic questions about that country of Palestine:
• When was it founded and by whom?
• What were its borders?
• What was its capital?
• What were its major cities?
• What constituted the basis of its economy?
• What was its form of government?
• Can you name at least one Palestinian leader before Arafat?
• Was Palestine ever recognized by a country whose existence, at that time or now, leaves no room for interpretation?
• What was the language of the country of Palestine?
• What was the prevalent religion of the country of Palestine?
• What was the name of its currency? Choose any date in history and tell what was the approximate exchange rate of the Palestinian monetary unit against the US dollar, German mark, GB pound, Japanese yen, or Chinese yuan on that date.
• Have they left any artifacts behind?
• Do you know of a library where one could find a work of Palestinian literature produced before 1967?
• And, finally, since there is no such country today, what caused its demise and when did it occur?
You are lamenting the “low sinking” of “once proud” nation. Please tell me, when exactly was that “nation” proud and what was it so proud of?
NobleCrow10
You people are expert in making irrelevant noise and try to bury the real issues under that noise. The real issue is that at the time when Palestine was under British Mandate Jews were only 10% of the local population. Majority of Israelis today comprise of Russian and East European foreigners. How did it happen? It happened by occupation and colonisation of Palestine and displacing the indigenous population with foreigners. How do I know? The very pioneers of Zionism said that. They were crystal clear they were going to colonise Palestine and converting it from an Arab country to a Jewish majority country. They also predicted that native Palestinians will resist to the end. Look at these historic quotes from the Iron Wall written by Za'ev Jabotinski in 1923:
"The native populations, civilised or uncivilised, have always stubbornly resisted the colonists, irrespective of whether thvey were civilised or savage."
"Every native population, civilised or not, regards its lands as its national home, of which it is the sole master, and it wants to retain that mastery always; it will refuse to admit not only new masters but, even new partners or collaborators."
" Every native population in the world resists colonists as long as it has the slightest hope of being able to rid itself of the danger of being colonised." - en.jabotinsky.org/media/9747/the-iron-wall.pdf
"There can be no voluntary agreement between ourselves and the Palestine Arabs. Not now, nor in the prospective future. I say this with such conviction, not because I want to hurt the moderate Zionists. I do not believe that they will be hurt. Except for those who were born blind, they realised long ago that it is utterly impossible to obtain the voluntary consent of the Palestine Arabs for converting "Palestine" from an Arab country into a country with a Jewish majority." - en.jabotinsky.org/media/9747/the-iron-wall.pdf
Similarly, the father of Zionism Theodore Herzel wrote in his diary:
"When we occupy the land, we shall bring immediate benefits to the state that receives us. We must expropriate gently the private property on the estates assigned to us. We shall try to spirit the penniless population across the border by procuring employment for it in the transit countries, while denying it any employment in our country. The property owners will come over to our side. Both the process of expropriation and the removal of the poor must be carried out discretely and circumspectly ... " - The Complete Diaries of Theodor Herzl', vol. 1 (New York: Herzl Press and Thomas Yoseloff, 1960), pp. 88, 90.
The bottom line: Israelis today are nothing but land thieves.

@JURGEN MARTIN Moller , It is crucial for us to understand that, no matter what they say to us, Arab governments simply cannot outlaw terrorism - just like the US government would be powerless to outlaw software engineering. It would be absurdly futile for us to expect Arabs to suddenly start fighting terrorism in earnest. For them, terrorism is the only viable strategy for jihad in today's world. And jihad, being one of the five pillars of Islam, inevitably constitutes one of the most important ingredients of the every day life in hopelessly backward Islamic societies like the Arab countries and Iran.

I hope with all my heart that, come the new moon, our Commander-in-Chief will give the order, and the fall of Iran, Syria and PA will become the beginning of the cataclysmic change in the entire Arab and Islamic world. The stability of the region, of course will go to hell - along with the societies where total corruption and murderous intolerance have always been the defining principles of social life, along with the eternal Arab war against Israel that they can never win and Israel is never allowed to finish, along with their Chucky-like puppet Abbas, along with every stagnant, obsolete theocracy that still exists on earth. When the end of the war is in sight, the Europeans will be certain to once again demonstrate their ancient wisdom: they will be there, demanding, in the most appropriate form, their portion of the newly baked Arab-American pie. Hopefully, Trump will be wise to give them exactly what they deserve - not a barrel more, not a barrel less.
they are in need for a carlton-ritz treat.....hang them upsite down on a woden rack, let them swing a bit...and the millions of dollars will drop out of their pockets !!!

Mehdi's problem is that he interrupts too often the guest's response after he would have asked the question. But, overall, he's a good journalist.

Erakat is delusional. Step aside & let people like Hanan lead the Palestinians cause.
She is facing many radicals in the palestinian government that are hanging on the chair for more money , she tried so hard to reform it but what palestinians need is a remake of their current government FULLY from scartch
@Jerry Ventura Hanan's family were rich since forever , her father, grandfather were the wealthiest at that time ... all the countries has corruption , and Palestinians problem ain't corruption coz its low, not saying it doesn't exist , its there
Jerry Ventura Hanan came from very rich family
They lost me at Arabs being democratic is Qatar a democratic state?
These people are living in a bubble , they don't realize they have no cards to play .
Why didn't the Arabs accept the U.N. 1947 partition , is it really believeable that in 1967 the Arab proclamation of Genocide will
result in the status quo ante bellum ? The P.A. will have at most a truncated state, not a bi-national state !

Israel will always prosper and Palestine will always be the victim
If you want to use the word "victim" - Arabs are victims of their own stupidity and stubbornness. They could have their own state in 1948, but they rejected, idiots.
Its al about having a super power behind you! if you don't have one, then make one. That's gonna give you what you want. In order to see a success for Soft Power (diplomacy or int'l law), you need to have hard power behind you!
