Dear Mr Hassan, if you say Iran is not the enemy, can you please explain why the Iranian government writes “Death to America” on their missiles? That statement seems pretty clear to me and is at odds with the argument you put forward with your usual unfounded confidence.
Soviets supplied the vast majority of Saddam's weapons. Thats why Saddams army drove Russian tanks, flew Russian MiGs, fired Russian Scuds at Israel, and used Russian made small arms.
CORRECTION: Iran militias didnt help US and UK defeat ISIS but defeated ISIS on its own helping the militias. Iran took the peace initiative towards US, US hypocritically pulled out, made people bear the brunt of sanctions and matyred the anti ISIS hero Qassem Soleimani. Now the west will have to bear the brunt of actual Iranian hostility.
Iranian militias were covered by American air support in Iraq when they fought against ISIS in 2014. Iranian backed Iraqi militias like Badr organisation use American M4 and M16 rifles.
As long as the Leader Imam Khamenei is alive Iran will never be USA friend and will opposed USA as it's Iran constitution to oppose oppressor and help oppressed like Palestine, Kashmir, Yemen etc.
No other nation is as culturally rich and economically rich as iran at the same time. It has true potential of becoming a superpower. That's why the US is scared of it. If US-iran tensions subside, it will be great for the world and especially for the muslim world who will finally have a progressive leader and not the likes of saudi and erdogan. Also india will be one of the first to make friendship with iran and the partnership will be formidable.
Well said sir, I'm a proud American that is horrified with my governments belligerent antagonism constantly demonizing Iran while trying to goat them into conflict. The money spent just taunting Iran could do so much more good but instead crates tension where it's not natural. Has Iran done bad things? Certainly so has every other country ever. However, It has been very clear for the last 10 years that Iran wants to be more western and allow it's people to prosper by engaging in the world market. When a countries middle class expands its wealth the leaders are not questioned or challenged. While hard liners do exist since before the Shaw the Iranian people have taken on western culture. Iran also has a culture that dates well before many countries. Iran has not invaded another country at least in the last 100 years. And the so called "largest state sponsor of terror" I have to strongly disagree. While we hear this sometimes many times a day the actual historical data just is not there. Even if you were to except the ridiculous notion that Iran only country with tech and sophistication to pull off Saudi oil attack but so stupid to place a mine in the wrong spot and then try to retrive it after another one had gone off and the locations was withing 40 mi of US navy base plus a fleet of US warships in and near the gulf is gibberish and still repeated like its the gospel. Next When Iran did retaliate they also announced their intentions. The US first response was from reporters interviewing the soldiers in the basses where the missiles hit. Make no mistake three separate media groups interviewed 3 different sets of soldiers and they all said that there was a two hour warning. The one soldier stated he was ordered to stay out of the bunker to get drones to safety. You can also watch cell phone footage of soldiers waiting and filming 3 of the missile attacks. It starts with the soldier hoping he has enough battery to last while the group he is with is communicating with someone who had access to radar and was reporting times till impact. The so called embassy attack, the distortion of what took place there is compounded with the absurd reaction if the embassy was really under attack. This happened immediate after not only Soliemanie and the Iraq forces leader were struck but also 25 more people with them and just a week before another massive attack that killed several civilians under the guise that tech smart Iran, Dangerous Iran, super weapons spreader evil Iran was choosing to use outdated, non controllable by GPS or any other means fire crackers . Why would they fire worthless rockets at basses just miles away from the US base meaning there should be satellite footage, If so we'll never know. I could seriously go on for a long time. However, I am humble enough to first state that I do not have a intelligence apparatus and I could conceive a very small reason to to obfuscate the actual evidence . Not for 20 years but if it really is national security then congress should involved and reports with real facts should be given ti the extent that we all see why it is necessary to declare war on a country. Make no mistake an embargo against a country is a deceleration of war. Sanctioning a business or person or an element of a country is close to war but a full embargo is ill advised and foolish. IT creates life long revenge seekers. The hypocrisy is rank, as in Syria we are there to protect the Syrians but as testified to by Jeffry himself, where the native Syrians were is now occupied by Kurds from other countries with a portion of native Kurd's this so happens to fall in line with the oil rich area's now under control and contracted to US companies. It is this action taken with bs reason to pull out of deal that creates haters and destroys all of our international policy. We project democracy and free market while enforcing monetary policies that directly benefit the industry's we highly subsidize . Even with all of this plus a letter from 60 member of congress telling Iran we would back out of the deal as soon as Obama left office and they still gave up sovereignty to gain access to a world economy and I would argue to also try and show off Iran's ability to aid nations in need and advance science to the benefit of mankind. Yes this is a month old and I just rabble longer than needed but kinda of the most important issue of our times to me. IS the DC regime going to force us to pay to start wars with China, Russia and Iran. IS the Us really going to sanction Germany and anyone who then deals with Germany, For as much as we idolize the Roman democratic republic and use it's systems as guide stones it is very remarkable that we do not consider Romes downfall due to overexertion and neglecting the homeland, I truly pray for peace and friendship with all of the worlds people.
The Iranian government deserves to be demonised! Let’s be fair here, atleast Saudi is trying to change. Is Iran? There’s still a morality police. They beaten women, in prison and torture women who don’t wear the Hijab. They hang homosexuals from Cranes. The deny basic fundamental human rights to religious minorities. Recently they killed a Kurdish girl for not wearing the Hijab. The Iranian people have had enough of their despotic ways! I hope the west one day bull dozers over this regime! The Iranian people deserve dignity and peace, not to be ruled over by a totalitarian despotic theocracy!
Iran is a beautiful country with amazing people and culture. The West should stop playing politics and should work strategically together for the well being of both nations economies and build trust and friendship. Their is no greater prize than peace, harmony & respect.
What are the reasons that the US chooses Iran as an enemy? This is a deeper question than it seems at first. Obviously there are the superficial issues of the humiliation which was inflicted on the US after the Iranian Revolution. [This can be disposed of by the US shrugging its 'big' shoulders.] Then there is the conflict of policy over Israel, the US supporting the state of Israel and Iran being a rejectionist state demanding the dismantling of Israel. [This can be dealt with by negotiations and an even-handed attitude of the US towards Palestinian rights, once relations between US and Iran have generally improved for some time.] However the deepest issue is about US control. The US wants to control the Middle East region either directly by military occupation or indirectly by political and economic influence. The USA wants Iran open to US investment but only on US terms. It wants a government in Iran which either aligns itself with US foreign policy or is weakened and dependent so it cannot oppose US policy. [This will never be acceptable to Iran or Iranians and can only be achieved by destruction of the Iranian state.] Why does Iran choose America as an enemy? Because America dominated and controlled Iran from 1953 - 1978 turning it into a weapon to use against neighbouring states like Iraq (a Soviet client for most of this time) and integrating it into the CENTO system for western military domination of the Middle East. The US supported the Shah who repudiated the Islamic and pro-Shia Arab elements in Iranian culture and society recalling a pre-Islamic Persia, at odds with the culture and deeply held beliefs of the majority of ordinary people. Because of this the Iranian people did not accept his achievements in developing the country as much as they might have done if he seemed to be in tune with the mass of his own people. He was always seen as an alien puppet by the working classes and peasantry. Prior to US domination Iran had been under British domination and the British had been happy to use military force against Iran to install and maintain their control over the internal politics of Iran. Iran experienced economic imperialism in which it received little for its oil while British oil companies got rich. Since the end of WW2 the western determination to dominate and control the region, and their readiness to resort to military force and subversion led by the US/UK has been repeatedly reaffirmed. All this gives Iran little reason to do anything other than to plough its own furrow in rejection of US/UK regional presence and domination, and in rejection of Israel. In this situation a relatively weak country sitting on a wealth of oil and gas may conclude that only possession of a nuclear deterrent will guarantee its national security against superior conventional military forces determined to rattle their sabres in Iran's immediate neighbourhood.
Yes I know, Iran is so weak that they can target and destroy American military bases anywhere in the Middle East and the great power with what you called his "big shoulders" can not do shit about it.
Mahdi Hassan talks about "democracy" in Iran based on three false presumptions: * The western liberal democracy is the best form of government for all countries regardless of their cultural, social, geopolitical, and historical background. He pretends to not know that western liberal democracy does not fit the Iranian historical and cultural profile and is not what the majority of Iranians want. In 1979, more than 98% of Iranians ELECTED the Islamic Republic as the framework of government for Iran. It seems though when democracy does not go the way the US hopes, like in Iran or Lebannon, then their so-called scholars start questioning those country's democracy! * Even if we assume that the western liberal democracy is the best form of government for Iran, we have to remember that the western democracy itself has miserably failed in the west. The American "democracy" is at best an OLIGARCHY that has managed to ruin the middle class, not to mention that it has given rise to a megalomaniac like Trump. Nevertheless, people like Mehdi Hassan have the audacity to sit on their high horse and tell us that Iran should follow the same path of "democracy." * Mehdi Hassan assumes that Iran is not democratic. Iran's government is democratically elected. Iran has an unelected body that evaluates the presidential candidates and that is the best way to make sure that democracy cannot be played against the people. That's precisely why Socrates harshly criticized democracy. Iran has thousands of years of historical governance experience and having a father figure as the head of the government has always been part of the Iranian culture. The supreme leader plays that role in Iran both politically and spiritually.
and perhaps something else worth mentioning, iran has a female vice president, female parliament members, jewish parliament members. these doesn't just appear with a non-democratic system in a very much religious region.
@@AlA-yy4fc First, I don't need to get paid to present my views and values. Second, the Islamic Republic of Iran, unlike the Arab countries of the Persian Gulf, is not selling the country to Americans. So, Iran probably doesn't have extra money to pay me. Third, you have no logical argument in response to my point-by-point argument and you're only trolling me. That very much fits the profile of a PAID keyboard warrior... Stay safe in Riyadh. The Saudi Clan even eats its own. Remember Khashoggi?
You were doing fairly ok before you got carried away and started to sound like Iran’s government stooge. Your claim that “Iran’s government is democratically elected” is so absurd that most Iranians today will laugh at that claim. Furthermore whatever happened in 1979 is in the past as at the time people were hoping that a Islamic regime would bring freedom, justice, and prosperity for them! What about today? Ask ordinary Iranians if they still want the current Islamic regime and you know very well what the answer would be but you don’t want to admit it because you are obviously on Iran’s government payroll.
Very valuable comments, Shia and Sunni muslims should come to to an agreement that no one should attack or criticise each other believes. Like muslim does to other minorities in their Countries. If the muslims want to survive their is no other way.
Does Mehdi also interview Iranians, Hamas and Hezbollah? Why not? Why only one side argument in support of muslim world? Why not stand tall and start a dialogue with them first, if you truly want to see a change.
The debate should be 'the Iranian people' are not our enemy - the Iranian Regime is a separate entity; Trump walked away from the agreement because it was a BAD agreement and he wanted to discuss changes; in the long run; Iran huffed and puffed and walked away from the deal. Exactly that.... Chants of Death to America and Israel are not helping Iran; and it does not help as Iran is supporting Hezbullah, Houthi and Hamas and interfering in lands not their own; Lebanon, Syria, Yemen and Gaza. The West is fed up with Iranian interference in countries not their own; and in fact hiding their nuclear weapons which you know, Mehdi they do have and are busy working to produce their missiles to hit, yes even, Europe. Iranian people are not the enemy; as Lebanese and Gazan people are not the enemy - their leaders, their regimes and their vocal and physical threats are.....
Well, Iran, being a deeply religious government, is not necessarily our friend, but they are not our enemy, either. They have no desire to be and there is no need for them to be.
Are we capable of bypassing these unending narrative squabbles and get straight to the question of *"who benefits?"* Its fascinating that we all know, on some level, *who benefits* BUT keep dealing with similar subjects like children. Endless talk without getting to the crux of the issue: *who benefits?* Its as if those who benefit also decided how we will talk about it and we obediently, as children, discuss *their* subject in an "approved way", sanitized and benign.

All I have to say is that Iran has been the most measured and rational party and always on the right side of this argument. The sheer resolve and determination of these wonderful people has always out shon everyone else whilst gaining them more and more friends, sympathisers and well wishers as we speak, all through the history of Persian empire and the great Persian people have been concurred multiple times and in every case not only the concurrent didn’t manage to influence their culture but only and eventually adopted the Persian culture before they were forced out and that is precisely why there are Persian words in almost every language spoken. This is where the first coinage, national flag, national anthem, alcohol, animation, poker, chess, poetry, theatre and it’s endless. Almost every thing we take for granted here and now originated from there. These people have managed to become self sufficient in defence, manufacturing all they need and some of the best, put three satellites in orbit whilst becoming a super power in their own rights, the only country on earth to directly and openly hit US bases in Iraq and from inside Iran devastating the place to the tune of billions of dollars in damage, the drone, the RQ70, arresting the marines when they got a little silly and strayed to Iranian waters, they’ve beaten US in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen all of which are now Iran’s best friends they’re the only country sticking up for the Palestinians and have been fully influenced by Iran whilst turning US in to the billy no mate that she’s now become. In footballing terms ( Iran has already beaten US twice in real football matches) and on scoreboard it’s IRAN 12 USA 0 all of that over 40 years of disgusting bullying tactics and behaviour imposing the most illegal and criminal sanctions. I together with every other correct thinking levelheaded individual take my hat of to Iran and salute them, you’ve literally saved the world by defeating USA without even a war as such!!

All I have to do is see a video with Mehdi Hasan's name and he could be discussing a food recipe with a review and I would watch
😂😂💯
I feel like a bucket of cold water is poured over my face whenever he speaks. Like a cold wakeup call followed by slaps of common sense.
Of course Iran is not our enemy just like China is not our enemy
Asian countries are so rich of culture and wonderful places and human history just like so many other countries.
The enemies are the people in power that misuse their power and try to separate us.
We need a redistribution of wealth not another war.
The people don't want wars
People want to travel the world and meet different people and see other cultures. We want peace
One of the most trusted person is Mehdi hasan. Great personality.
Long live beutiful people's of Iran and great supreme leader .😘🇮🇳💞🇮🇷
Thank you:) Love and respect from Iran.
Good work sir.
As usual Mehdi murders the opposition with facts

@Popeye The U.S. is the colonist, not Iran. You can see American military bases everywhere on the map.
@Popeye Hehe. Joke of the year. You are brainwashed by the western media. Arguing with brainwashed people is nothing but waste of time and energy:)
Dear Mr Hassan, if you say Iran is not the enemy, can you please explain why the Iranian government writes “Death to America” on their missiles? That statement seems pretty clear to me and is at odds with the argument you put forward with your usual unfounded confidence.
@@محمدخلیلی-خ2س if Iran wishes to perpetuate conflict then please don’t argue that it seeks peace, that is my point to Mr Hassan.
What he said is facts
Thank You 🙏
It’s clear this guy is a Shia defending Iran
As long as the Leader Imam Khamenei is alive Iran will never be USA friend and will opposed USA as it's Iran constitution to oppose oppressor and help oppressed like Palestine, Kashmir, Yemen etc.
Yeah. The U.S. is Iran's rank 1 enemy. It has proven it by its sinister deeds against Iran and Iranains.
Where's the full version?
No other nation is as culturally rich and economically rich as iran at the same time. It has true potential of becoming a superpower. That's why the US is scared of it.
If US-iran tensions subside, it will be great for the world and especially for the muslim world who will finally have a progressive leader and not the likes of saudi and erdogan. Also india will be one of the first to make friendship with iran and the partnership will be formidable.
Truth speak louder 😍
Good Ahmed Hassan, your opening statement helped to appreciate Islam and Iran to the free world.
IS the Us really going to sanction Germany and anyone who then deals with Germany, For as much as we idolize the Roman democratic republic and use it's systems as guide stones it is very remarkable that we do not consider Romes downfall due to overexertion and neglecting the homeland, I truly pray for peace and friendship with all of the worlds people.
since when we want to be more WESTERN??? our history our culture our will !
God bless Iran

Outstanding....
I love Mehdi. God bless you brother #Oxford #Legend
Not normally a fan of mehdi but he has some good points here.
Very true
Mahdi Hassan talks about "democracy" in Iran based on three false presumptions:
* The western liberal democracy is the best form of government for all countries regardless of their cultural, social, geopolitical, and historical background.
Nevertheless, people like Mehdi Hassan have the audacity to sit on their high horse and tell us that Iran should follow the same path of "democracy."
* Mehdi Hassan assumes that Iran is not democratic.
@Brain Washington
Very well and succinctly expressed. Thank you.
Wish we had more educated people like you
@@AlA-yy4fc First, I don't need to get paid to present my views and values.
GREAT RESPECT TO MEHDI HASSAN

Does Mehdi also interview Iranians, Hamas and Hezbollah? Why not? Why only one side argument in support of muslim world? Why not stand tall and start a dialogue with them first, if you truly want to see a change.
Mr Mehdi Hasan you sir are very well educated I thank you sir for educating the sheep that are a sleep
I vote for the motion!
Iran is not enemy of the West!
If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart.
Are we capable of bypassing these unending narrative squabbles and get straight to the question of *"who benefits?"*
Its fascinating that we all know, on some level, *who benefits* BUT keep dealing with similar subjects like children. Endless talk without getting to the crux of the issue: *who benefits?*
Its as if those who benefit also decided how we will talk about it and we obediently, as children, discuss *their* subject in an "approved way", sanitized and benign.

Not a Muslim, but love this rationalist, Mehdi Hassan.
I've never had the Iranians pull me over at gunpoint for a broken tailgate..........
Now we know why
Always, always a pleasure to hear Mehdi Hasan speaks. Intelligent points, as always. Luv to hear him speak👍
Always loved and admired Mehdi's wisdom as journalist and excellent speaking skill. He is full of true facts and informations. I think when Mehdi starts speaking on a particular topic and if there are opponents it naturally seems that the opponent's face and eyebrows start to turn black and squeeze getting into an awkward situation cornering by Mehdi's facts and analysed vast amounts of information.
Who taught this man how to speak!
