I was wondering if one of the secrets shown was going to be how Skull Kid reacts to being spied on through the telescope changes depending on which day you do it, showing his mental state change as the mask possesses him. It's one of my favorites.
The change to the dialog between Tatl and Tael is actually triggered before you beat the game. If you play the Song of Time after arriving inside the Moon, you can restart the cycle. The trigger seems to be witnessing the first dialog rather than beating the game.
I was going to say that. Basically time travel is the factor that will trigger it. So players don’t have to necessarily beat the game just to get a different response from Tatl. So you’re right man.
@@HelpTheWretched The whole game has hidden racist stuff. The dekus won't sell to you unless you're a certain race, people won't let you play games or go places of you're a certain race, etc.
The child Link mask was probably going to be something Skullkid stole when he turned Link into a Deku -- like you have to get it back to change back, and putting it on is how you reverse the transformations.
That is probably right. I had a different take. At the end of OoT, Link wanders in the lost woods and whoever gets lost here turns into a stalchild right. So the whole story of MM is Links own dream or imagination and in the end he needs to face the reality of what he himself had become. Hiding behind masks and helping people was Links way of avoidance. When he traded al his masks fierce deity Link came which represents his anger and frustration. When this came out he mortaly wounded himself and turned into the hero's shade, the one we see in Twillight Princess.
Or maybe Skullkid intended to frame Link for his misdeeds and originally you would’ve had to gain the trust of mutiple citizens before you could help them.
Another interesting piece of lore about Ikana Valley : It is mentioned that in Ikana, only the Dead may walk the paths of Ikana. Indeed, most NPCs who are alive in the Ikana region are attacked by the undead repeatedly. Those who are alive but dont seem to get attacked, indeed never "walk". They dance.
My theory is that originally, after cursing Link into the shape of a Deku Scrub, Skull Kid would gain a mask of Link's face. That mask was going to be the key to reverting back to your original form rather than the Song of Healing. Which is why it is a Skull Kid object in the game's files. Maybe the whole ordeal would be a reference to ancient evil spirits who would steal people's souls by turning them into grotesque masks and plaster the walls of their lairs with their victims horrified faces. If you've ever watched Avatar: The Last Airbender there is an episode in which the main protagonist, Aang, meets with one such creature and he must absolutely refrain from outwardly expressing any feeling in his face or have it stolen by the entity.
Here's a couple I remember discovering as a kid: 1. The thief bird that works for the curiosity shop, flying around the entrance to milk road, can in fact be killed. His health is one of the highest of all non-boss enemies, however he'll drop a Giant (200) Rupee every time. 2. If you shoot the bag of bombs on Sakon's back during his theft from the Bomb Shop lady with a fire arrow, it will explode and he will vanish. The sidequest will fail, but that's not all; Sakon is actually dead. If you search for him in Ikana or wait for him at his hideout during the Lover's Mask sidequest, he never appears. 3. If you return to the Woodfall Temple after getting the Goron Mask, wearing it while on top of one of the floating man-eating plants will trigger it and cause Link to tear his way out and turn it into a safe platform (rather than doing nothing as a Deku or chewing him up and spitting him out as a human).
There's an alternative scene of the Clock Tower opening at the start of the Carnival that only triggers during the first cycle of the game if you are in Termina Field right outside the Astral Observatory where you collect the Moon Tear. It never triggers again after the first cycle.

There's more to the dialog changes in do-overs of the Oath to Order sequence. She'll insist that Link go alone so she can stay with Tael, but then Tael will choose to go instead, wanting to try to learn from Link's courage and saying that if he wasn't such a coward he might have been able to stop the Skull Kid. Tatl comes to realize from Tael's speech that she enabled the Skull Kid just as much as he did, and opts to go after all, taking the opportunity to make a comment comparing Tael's recent stubbornness to Link's own, and calling them the same kind of stupid. I doubt it's anything more than a playful jab though. Revisits to the cutscene will instead have Tatl encouraging Link to follow the path she knows he's already going to follow, and openly states her admiration of Link's ability to always move forward without question or hesitation.

My personal theory as to why Skull Kid has a Link mask in his file is that he would wear it while tormenting the various places around Termina, and making people believe that it was Link causing all the damage, and not Skull Kid
That or that is how you would turn back to normal. Think about it, he stole your form much like he stole the Deku Butler's son so maybe when you defeat him the first time you get that mask and you're able to turn back into Link, maybe that's how you'd turn back after wearing another mask, replacing it with the Link mask.
popped up right as soon as I dug up my old collectors edition to play majoras mask again, (waiting to find a N64 copy in good shape) can you believe that! haha looking forward to the video Zeltik, love your work.
I think I only knew of three of these. Dampe was my favorite, scaring him in the morning just to see if he did the entire loop, and he did. He would run away, doing his route, only to run back to where you scared him originally. Btw the other two was the transformation masks with the dogs(works for all dogs if I remember right), and Tael(?) having a different script at the end.
The fact that Link and Tatl remember saving the world and still do it again anyway is really dark. Seems to suggest the time loop keeps restarting even if they succeed. Doesn't really make sense and I'm guessing we should just consider it an easter egg or something, but man, that's grimmer than Groundhog Day
My theory about the Link mask: Skull Kid was going to use the mask to impersonate Link, doing those terrible things within the game to cast the blame onto Link.
What if the original purpose of the link mask was so skull kid could frame link and make everyone think link was causing trouble, and that this scrapped idea is what inspires shadow mario in sunshine?
Did you know? In BotW, you can one-shot Stal enemies if you can successfully crit them with a headshot. It’s a good way to save on weapon durability at the cost of a few arrows
I usually just throw bombs. One to break them apart, swap to the second one to blow up the heads. Saves on arrows and weapons. Bombs are way too OP in BotW.
The part about going to the final boss again doesn't only appear if you *beat* the final boss, I found out i needed all masks for the fierce diety mask and used the song of time to escape the moon. Once I had every mask I went back and had that changef dialogue.
Thank you for that last one! Oh my gosh it's nice to see this! It makes a lot of sense as she does travel though time with you too and is the only other one who remembers things. She comments on it a lot actually. Also I was wondering and completely caught off guard with the wind waker one. lol Nice to know that was what was going on. I thought my game glitched but realized latter it might be a feature.
You make the best and very well written, videos ever! I’m serious, the greatest. Zelda videos make more sense with the way you explain everything. Enjoy all of them truly great job!
Hey Zeltik! I love LoZ and your vids, I though that ranking more of your favorite zelda related things would be a fun new series. Ranking consoles, games, characters and things like that. Keep up the good work!!!
I thought the Link mask was a remnant of a scrapped concept where there would be a mask that turns Link into adult Link (this of course was later replaced by the Fierce Deity Mask).
#7 You don't actually have to have beaten the game before; This just has to be the second time you've watched that cutscene on your save file (Like if you decided to SoT out once on the moon). And it's not just the exchange with Tael that's different; the entire SCENE after you summon the giants has different dialogue; Tatl's reaction to the moon waking up is different, and so is her reaction to Link resolving to enter the moon to finish Majora once and for all.
Since this is my favorite Zelda game, and the first I've completed 100% (actually, 99% [I so hate that pot-breaking game in Great Bay...]), I should have realized I already knew almost all of these. The only one I didn't know about was the dolphin sketch.
3:59 So, if I'm interpreting this right, the original narrative had Skull Kid rampaging around Clock Town pretending to be Link. I guess they ended up using that idea for Super Mario Sunshine.
Majora's Mask will remain my favourite Zelda game of all time. First, it is so elusive. I remember I got it on N64 and I couldn't play it because I needed an expansion pack. Second, it's SO DAMN CREEPY. I find the whole prospect of Majora so creepy and disturbing. Thirdly, it made me cry so many times
What is Termina is like the Metaverse from Persona 5. A world created from how the people of Hyrule see their world. Maybe Cremia uses Malons adult character model because it represents how she had to take care of herself growing up. And maybe the aliens represent Ganon attacking and taking over. And maybe the brothers who try to mess up their business represents how Ingo took over Lon Lon. Romani Ranch is just how Malon sees Lon Lon during Ganons attack but in a physical form
Pretty sure the child link mask was just a placeholder for majoras mask during development and/or possibly an anchor point because skull kid's face is so unusual (which could explain why it's still linked to skull kid in the code). Most likely a combination of the two: It was used as a placeholder during early development and once the majoras mask model was finished, the just anchored it to the link mask because they already had the animations working and it was significantly faster than trying to replicate the animations on the new model.
I was wondering if one of the secrets shown was going to be how Skull Kid reacts to being spied on through the telescope changes depending on which day you do it, showing his mental state change as the mask possesses him. It's one of my favorites.

Oohhhh that could be true..that would be very interesting and maybe link would have to prove he is Innocent...
Reminds me of Super Mario Sunshine
the runescape music at the beginning!!!
Gotta admit, I didn't know some of these and I played this game quite a few times back in 2000. Good job.
I never played the 3DS version, I never noticed in other videos until seeing the closeup shot in this one how ripped they made Zora Link look, lol
Yeah, and they made him look happier too. N64 Zora looks very grim and serious.
I'm reading right now Oliver Lemierre's History of Zelda series, and now on part about Majora's Mask, and then I get this treasure. Thank you!
I didn't know about the Link mask and the guay thing. Great video, I absolutely adore this game and its secrets
Earliest I have ever been also do the zeldatubers have a schedule when they all upload at the same time because if so THAT IS AWESOME
Well it’s exactly noon PST, they’re probably all scheduled for primetime
wat
Same
It is literally midnight for me...
Amazing video!! I love Majoras mask!
Majora's Mask is the middle child of zelda it always gets forgoten but if you know it it's really cool and good.
I thought my game glitched but realized latter it might be a feature.
looking forward to that "speculation time" with BOTW2 we had with BOTW
Please , PLEASE, PLEASE Nintendo, remake Majoras Mask for the Switch! I loved this game so much.
zeltik back at it again with another banger vid
Freaking LOVVVVE majora's mask, you ROCK Zeltik. Love your content
Honestly the only uploader I look forward to seeing a video from.
Nice choice of music, Especially the OSRS music.
You make the best and very well written, videos ever! I’m serious, the greatest. Zelda videos make more sense with the way you explain everything. Enjoy all of them truly great job!
Does anyone else get irrationally happy when they see a new Zeltik video?
I appreciate the runescape music very much. A man of culture!!
3:40 Oh, a majora's mask video, it would be lovely to watch it at 3 am
Can't believe I'm three hours late for this, gotta get those notifications on
Very Interesting. I enjoyed the video.
Amazing video, I really didn't know these
Are you testing my knowledge on MM? *cracks knuckles* let's see...
*_omae wa, mou shindeiru_*
This game is a corner stone of my childhood. I love OOT.. but Majora's Mask has my heart
Hey Zeltik! I love LoZ and your vids, I though that ranking more of your favorite zelda related things would be a fun new series. Ranking consoles, games, characters and things like that. Keep up the good work!!!
God I Love youre Intro Zeltik im so hyped for BoTW 2 i can't wait 😱
I thought the Link mask was a remnant of a scrapped concept where there would be a mask that turns Link into adult Link (this of course was later replaced by the Fierce Deity Mask).
I think this "Young Link" mask is separate from the "Adult Link" mask that became the Fierce Deity Mask.
Majora's Mask is my favourite Zelda, I've completed it multiple times. I'm glad i knew all of these already😎
Great video, as usual.
YES IM FINALLY ON TIME WITH A ZELTIK VIDEO
I love that someone else knows Runescape!
Wow I ACTUALLY didn't know about this stuff in game. Great job
Since this is my favorite Zelda game, and the first I've completed 100% (actually, 99% [I so hate that pot-breaking game in Great Bay...]), I should have realized I already knew almost all of these. The only one I didn't know about was the dolphin sketch.
Gotta love the RS music. Great video.
I wonder if Skull Kid wearing a Link mask meant that he was gonna try and steal Link's life/identity...?
3:59 So, if I'm interpreting this right, the original narrative had Skull Kid rampaging around Clock Town pretending to be Link.
I guess they ended up using that idea for Super Mario Sunshine.
The Link Mask existing in the game files is more terrifying than any creepypasta Ben. Good lord, I never knew that.
Playing the game for the first time now. Perfect timing for the video
I’m a huge fan of majoras mask and I like to think I know most things about this game and I found myself learning one new thing about this game
The dolphin reference was my favorite trivia from this video because I love Wind Waker so much.
Been watching for two years, never been this early
Most likely a combination of the two:
It was used as a placeholder during early development and once the majoras mask model was finished, the just anchored it to the link mask because they already had the animations working and it was significantly faster than trying to replicate the animations on the new model.
