@@Sacred_Korok69 It probably isn't a Pikachu reference. Keaton is based on kitsunes from Japanese mythology which are foxes with multiple tails and golden fur like the Keaton you encounter in the game.
@@ViviSectia hmm yes. The only reference to pikachu would be the colour of its fur and the black tips on its ears. I just remembered that a long time ago there was a video about hidden nintendo characters and stuff in Zelda games. I know its a kitsune, it just came to my mind ^-^

The moon in Majora's Mask isn't just one of the most iconic visuals in the Zelda game. It's quite possibly one of the most iconic visuals in video game history. Most gamers I know, who see the Termina moon know where it comes from, even without having played the game.
I knew about the moon before playing Majora's Mask(since I didn't play it until I got it from ebay 10 years after it's release) but that was mainly because of Super Smash Bros Melee. Also, since the moon, Tingle, the turtle and the four giants all appeared in the Great Bay stage and all of their trophy descriptions say they originated from Majora's Mask, I correctly assumed that the stage itself was also from Majora's Mask. I thought it was pretty obvious.
The first one is probably a colour palette issue, the outfit colour has that chicks hair colour and Link's skin seems to take on the hair colour of the old lady
Mostly right, but the similarity is just a coincidence. Link is using palette 0 there as a default case because the game has no space to load the new palette to. This palette is used for many things, such as the boomerang or the shield, and is always loaded.
@@somebakedgood It's probably the only place where they need to use the other colour palette as the main one due to wanting to use certain colours for characters
I always just thought Link drew that picture of him fighting a monster as really just more as being a kid with a wild imagination and wondering what was outside the forest.
I'm glad you brought attention to that Star Fox asteroid, it's one of my favorite weird video game mysteries no one ever talks about. I like to imagine there are more of these "moons" out there, roaming the galaxy for millennia and devouring worlds like what would have happened to Termina. Majora's Mask is probably some sort of extraterrestrial being or relic as well, since it seems directly related to these moons (same eyes) and the fact that they contain dimensional portals. I'm sure the game designers didn't consider any of this, but it's still fun to think about.
So here's a crazy idea about the dinosaur drawing. What if, and stay with me here, what if some bored kids in the middle of a forest just decided to draw a swordsman fighting a dinosaur?
I just love how he says "the *simplest* answer", yet his answer is completely nonsensical... This guys videos are fine overall, but my god can he be delusional and/or desperate... Like, come on... it's just a drawing by a kid... I don't even mind crazy theories, but this is just moronic...
@@nonoctoro4933 I have a small theory that it is a place that was occupied by a cult that saw the Skull Kid's new power and decided to worship him. They concealed the place with the powers of the golden skulltulas so that no one without a trained eye or eye of truth couldn't see it (like that guy that gives you the giants wallet) I imagine the curse working like the stone mask...and who knows maybe the cult is those kids you see on the moon at the end of the game. That would explain why the house is abandoned.
I wish someone like Zeltik would do an in-depth video on the Oceanside Spiderhouse. There's so much to it yet it seems most UA-camrs who specialize in Zelda lore have never really looked at it in-depth.
Then once you complete it, the guy from ckocktown takes refuge there. Everytime you speak to him, he just states how long the cycle has left. So, not everyone in Clocktown was in denial.
I really love the idea of Link actually dreaming of his eventual fight with King Dodongo, it definitely makes him more interesting that he had a dream like this and etched it on his tree, probably just thinking it was a cool or scary dream and likely showing it to Saria. One thing I also like in Ocarina of Time though this is likely just my imagination is the fact that Link saves Jabu Jabu after failing to save The Great Deku Tree. In his first dungeon, he tries and fails to stop the parasite from killing The Great Deku Tree, resulting in his death. Once he reaches Zora's Domain though, he deals with a similar situation where a Guardian Deity is at risk from a parasite...only this time he saves them. He was too late to save his own Guardian, but he saved the Zora's. I feel like this is an interesting character arc for him, I could imagine him beating himself up over not saving The Great Deku Tree, so when he goes inside Jabu Jabu to deal with a parasite as well, he likely feared the worse and did his best to save them, this time succeeding. I could see this as being relieving, this time he didn't fail and was just in time to save the day...only to go back to the castle to find Zelda being chased with Ganon in pursuit and then he unknowingly allows Ganon access to the Triforce. The Hero of Time's story is pretty dark, all things considered. His mother dies, he is left in the Lost Woods, destined to leave his life with the Kokori behind, failing to save his guardian and thrust into an adventure he was likely not prepared for though was having nightmares for. He is pretty much manipulated by Ganon into allowing him access to the Triforce and while he does save the day, its in a separate timeline so he is never revered as a hero, and his last remaining true friend leaves him. The last we see of him is in Twilight Princess where the one thing he can actually achieve and be happy for is teaching his descendant, the Hero of Twilight, all his various skills so a part of him could live on. This is also just including the Child Timeline because he is also the only Link that canonically (technically due to the timeline) fails resulting in a third timeline where Ganon wins. The Hero of Winds wins, Hero of Twilight wins, Hero of Legend wins, Hero of Time has the possibility of losing. He either falls in battle, is never remembered for his feats or vanishes from a timeline that needs him most. I think only the Hero of Legend, if that is Link to the Past's Link, can compete with this since he loses his uncle in his first game and has to give up the woman he loves to escape the Wind Fish's dream.
The drawing is far more likely to be a reference to Aquamentus, the first boss battle of the very first Legend of Zelda! It's very vague, but it's clearing a dragon rearing up...with FOUR legs. In addition, if you look closer, the shield that the Hero is using in the drawing has a cross shape on it...Just like the shield from the original game. At this point, Aquamentus was the only dragon in the series with one head, four legs, and a western-dragon bodyshape (that being, large and bulky around the main of the body, rather than long and serpentine. Think Dragonite instead of, say, Dragonair.) This is obviously just a drawing Link did when he was young(er), envisioning himself as a hero fighting a dragon...Which would eventually come true, with Volvagia...
the moon thing makes so much sense because that one game theory about how the moon is pointless exists but like if you open a black hole upon impact with the world yore probably gonna end it
Treats like "the same guy who was responsible for designing sprites reused an asset on a later game he art directed... surely not just a coindence right? It must've crossed his mind that he was reusing the same basic concept of an angry moon!" In all seriousness, I loved that tidbit and no one ever seems to mention it even though the MM moon is such an icon of videogames, but I was expecting some more background rather than two minutes of "very similar moon... so weird! I wonder if he even noticed he was using the same moon"
It's not a glitch, it's well known it was used to test Z targeting. they just never erased the data but you still need a cheat device to reactivate it.
Interesting little fact, the whole tunic changing color thing doesn't just effect Link for some reason. In the Minish Cap randomizer, you can choose to have a follower (Certain characters with walking sprites, such as Zelda, Malon, and the postman). When I was doing a rando run a while ago, I happened to enter the cafe with Malon as my follower while I was small, and for some reason, Malon's sprite changed much like Link's does with the charm? Her hair turned blonde and her skin grey and eyes orange. (The followers remain the same size regardless what size Link is, so that's how I saw.) I couldn't find anything in the randomizer notes about it, and had known about the charm glitch a while back. Just thought it was interesting the cafe specifically seems to change other 'Playable' sprites as well in certain circumstances.
Right? It bugs the hell out of me when these content creators reference the classic games but then proceed to show footage from the 3DS remakes - which look terrible, IMO.
Not sure if it was ever mentioned before in these vids, but I've noticed that the Guardians in Breath of the Wild bare a striking resemblance to the transformation Midna takes when she uses the Fused Shadows in Twilight Princess... almost as if the Shiekah who made them were inspired by the strange otherworldly magic of the Twilight World
It is an actual moon look at jupiter it has hundreds of moons like this. As long as it rotates a planet it is a moon. But I understand why you think that way since many think earth's moon is how all moons should be...our moon is super rare and very special.
In the 80s, early 90s, you could buy toy bouncy balls that had grimacing faces like that. I always figured they were inspired by those, as they were so popular.
The owl above the gate telling the time could be an inspiration for the hylian shield in majoras mask, and if the Sheikah have any connection to Termina, like some theorists say, it raises a few questions
Wow nice find about the evil moon! To be honest I don't find that they are remotely connected, IMO when you are an artist there are recuring motives in your works. If you want draw something threatening and overwordly the same kind of figure will spring to your mind. Or maybe the guy wanted to elaborate this concept of a scary moon in 3D cause he knew how effective it was to convey fear and confusion.
To the point of the tree house carving, I think it's much more likely because at the end of the game, Link is sent back in time. With his memories intact... Perhaps it's a wink at that. Maybe he recounts the adventures that he's had.
Something I've noticed is how few people in breath of the wild have blinde hair (not including zelda). Could you maybe do some research/a video on it? It's quite interesting!
About the picture of Link fighting a monster scribble in Kokiri forest, I always throught it was a refence to the cartoon! There's an episode where Link fights a Dragon using his sword and shield :) just search for "The Legend of Zelda Cartoon (1989) - Link Defeats the Dragon"
when link traveled back in time in the end of ocarina of time, he could still have his memories as an adult, so the carving could be link drawing himself fighting dodongo (almost the same thing as the dream theory)
I feel like the drawing doesnt neccesarily have anything to do with the main strory, I think that it might of just been link imagining himself as a hero and playing pretend, I think that this also shows when link does similar gestures with his sword, like when he grabs his belt and points upward, a symbol of lets go get them or onward.
I always learn some crazy cool obscure new things from this channel and I thought I knew a ton about Zelda already! These videos always pay off, no fluff or clickbait.

If I remember correctly, there is an instance during Jalhalla's boss fight where he lifts the mask slightly to blow a long gust of wind to push link away from him. I saw it in my last playthrough, and I thought it was pretty neat.
I have always thought the carving at the base of Link's treehouse depicted the final fight with Ganon. From a narrative point of view, it seems more likely that if the protagonist is going to have a prophetic dream, it will involve the final boss on which so much hangs rather than the second boss, who only serves as an obstacle in the much larger story.
9:06 is where he FINALLY starts talking about the moon. Dont advertise the video like thats the only thing you're gonna be talking about. Change the thumbnail please I sat through bullshit just to get to you talking about the moon
The Star Fox asteroid: Troll-facing kids before the Troll Tace was even a thing. With that out of the way, it's interesting to learn that the same designer designed both the smiling asteroid and the MM Moon; I never would've found that out otherwise. Nice job!
Maybe the "moon" in *Majora's Mask* is actually an asteroid that got caught in Termina's orbit? This would explain why it's relatively so small & has so little effect on the planet as it looms so close.
I think you're missing something very simple about the doodle on Link's house. Saria was Link's best friend. It's fair to say they would have played together quite a lot. But, Link doesn't really seem to be the type to draw something right on his house advertising to the whole village that he wants to be an adventurer and slay monsters. He probably had been having dreams about his quest for a while, but some of them probably would have been quite harrowing, maybe even nightmarish. Maybe they were playful at first and he talked to Saria about them and they played adventurer together but then as the dreams got more nightmarish then he'd probably become more standoffish about it. So I think he told his latest dream of Dodongo to Saria and she was the one who drew it onto Link's house, and even though Link wouldn't have wanted the whole town to see it, he kept it there because he has the hots for Saria and it reminds him of her. But that may of been the last dream he told her about because they started turning into nightmares. And there's nothing like that on the inside of his house, it's on the outside, so that makes it seem like someone else did it. It must have been Saria.
Interestingly (or not) is that the katakana for Jalhalla's name reads Jai Haara (ジャイ・ハーラ), with an I, not an L in the first word, and a generally different pronunciation with that long A sound in "Haa", with the final L being interchangeable for an R because neither of these exists in Japanese anyway (causing confused pronunciations of foreign words like correction and collection). Contractions of two words are very common in Japanese, so I'd be willing to take a punt on Jai Haara being an adaption of Giant Horror (even though the word horror already exists as ホラー、Horaa, but whatever, when we're making up new words and writing them in katakana, we can basically make anything up). Also, regarding that little drawing on the trunk of Link's house, I always interpreted it as Link vs Ganon, with Ganon represented symbolically as a big monster/dinosaur, rather than it being a literal representation of something. For that reason I'd never even considered that it might be King Dodongo. How cool is that we can look at something like that and interpret it as we choose!
I'm going through another bout of botw2 hype, and I badly want to binge analysis and theory videos, but so many Zelda youtubers covering the sequel are annoyingly fanatical. Thank you, Zeltik, for not only being well-researched and taking pride in your work, but also for being rational and respectful to your audience. I'm glad you still put out interesting videos even in the sequels painful update drought. I don't always agree with your opinions, but I'm always immensely appreciative of the way you express your love for the series without being a turd about it.
Nice. Well at some point I thought that the Moon in Majora´s Mask was a representation of Ganondorfs face. For me it make sence. I mean, MM was a sad and a dark game that happends after Link had to live a life of courage. In his journey he sacrificed a lot of things travelling in time (friends, childhood/innocence, fears, inner peace). Knowing that Termina its a parallel world of Hyrule, that moon represents Links darkest fear (Ganondorf), the thing that makes him run against time to save people he barely know. But what you said about that reference of Star Fox faced-asteroid, it make sence too (lol).
It’s possible the drawing on his home is Link remembering when he fought Beast Ganon at the end of the game and drew it before he went to Termina after getting sent back in time.
I think that the carving on link’s tree could be the hero of the sky confronting the imprisoned. As shown on the carving, the warrior has wings like an angel, so maybe that symbolizes skyloft.
I've always thought of the tree drawing and premonition dreams as Link being stuck in a never ending loophole of time. The dinosaur looking creature is actually Ganon.
Fun fact: The etymology of Majora's name is a portmanteau of Takaya Imamura's name, with his favorite movie "jumanji". Also, the moon's facial similarities to that asteroid is indeed a curious ponder. Star Fox affiliation/allusions in Zelda have a pretty modest track record, especially in Ocarina of Time with arwing model assets buried in the game's code, which was used as a template for the flight motions for Volvagia. Moreover, the original designer involved with the development of Ocarina of Time from the initial planning stages was reassigned from the Zelda 64 project to work on starfox. There is also the possibility that the Bremen Mask, Bunny Hood, Keaton Mask, and Don Gero's mask was meant to allude to the starfox team. Though that may be a longshot, as Aonuma had actually been questioned if those masks were indeed a reference to starfox and he remained pretty neutral on the idea.

I know its a kitsune, it just came to my mind ^-^
blew my mind
@@ViviSectia the person you sell the keaton mask to in the NA OoT says it's a very popular mask and most people recognize the character when you wear it so between it's coloration and popularity, it can be seen as a reference to pikachu as Pokemon's mascot and most recognizable and popular character.
You could say that the Moon is a link between worlds.
This is the single most amazing comment you could’ve possibly written, thank you dude
This comment needs the CSI opening theme
Bu dum ch
@super sonic this made my day
I think the drawing is actually the very first boss in the Zelda series, Aquamentus. The Link like warrior has a cross on it's shield too.
I always thought it was a Godzilla reference lol
If that’s the case, you’re forgetting that aquamentus has a forehead horn and wings on its back. I believe the King Dodongo theory more.
I believe also that it is also the first boss, just in Timeline chronology. I think it could be the imprisoned for SS
@@DylanC444 Bruh, King Dodongo also has a horn on his forehead
Madison C No, his is on the top of his head, not forehead.
The moon in Majora's Mask isn't just one of the most iconic visuals in the Zelda game. It's quite possibly one of the most iconic visuals in video game history. Most gamers I know, who see the Termina moon know where it comes from, even without having played the game.
Though they're probably thinking of the original, not this remake one with large features >.
I remember being a kid, having barely played Nintendo games and not even a Zelda game, and still knowing that moon was from Majora's Mask
The first one is probably a colour palette issue, the outfit colour has that chicks hair colour and Link's skin seems to take on the hair colour of the old lady
Mostly right, but the similarity is just a coincidence. Link is using palette 0 there as a default case because the game has no space to load the new palette to. This palette is used for many things, such as the boomerang or the shield, and is always loaded.
i was facepalming so hard when this dude said "we'll never know for sure"
The weird part is that it only happens in that area.
@@somebakedgood It's probably the only place where they need to use the other colour palette as the main one due to wanting to use certain colours for characters
The OoT carving could be even more simple. Link and Saria played a game where Link fought a big monster and they decided to draw a cool picture of it.
It kinda looks like Godzilla
Skull Kid drew it.
Probs link drew it after a dream about fighting beast form ganaon
Link likes drawing shit like we also saw in Majoras mask ending
That actually sounds like some really cool cosmic horror-"I am become Moon, Devourer of Worlds"
So here's a crazy idea about the dinosaur drawing. What if, and stay with me here, what if some bored kids in the middle of a forest just decided to draw a swordsman fighting a dinosaur?
Uncle J that’s what I was thinking
Nonsense! Surely the dinosaur depicted is a dodongo without looking anything like a dodongo!
I just love how he says "the *simplest* answer", yet his answer is completely nonsensical...
This guys videos are fine overall, but my god can he be delusional and/or desperate... Like, come on... it's just a drawing by a kid...
I don't even mind crazy theories, but this is just moronic...
Jalhalla having a face is the most strange thing wtf
The first one with the orange eyes is actually Link becoming a Sith Lord
Have you heard the tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise?
No...
@@plazmatek4958 I thought not. It's not a story the jedi would tell you. It is an old Sith legend.
A SITH LAWD?
When it’s been 25 seconds and Zeltik has already said “colossal” you know it’s gonna be a good video
Those evil faced asteroids also appeared in the Lv. 3 Asteroid field, where they home in on the Arwing.
Woah, Cool
Oh dear god that’s like ten times the trouble if Majora just allowed the entire Lv 3 Asteroid Field into Termina

The Oceanside Spiderhouse is a mysterious and interesting place to visit in the game. It's like a haunted house
Skull Kid's ancient home perhaps? There are portraits of him without the mask on.
@@darkcloak100
But, why would they have portraits with his face if you claim Majora’s mask’s power is what made them revere him?
Out of context, I love how the “simplest answer” involves a massive dinosaur, prophetic dreams, and a child’s drawing.

Think Dragonite instead of, say, Dragonair.)
This is obviously just a drawing Link did when he was young(er), envisioning himself as a hero fighting a dragon...Which would eventually come true, with Volvagia...
Majora's Mask has always been my favorite of the series. Such a chilling tone
You’re videos are acc the only UA-cam videos I look forward to these days, thanks for such frequent and well put together vids bro
Yea
I bet that why there’s an orange variant Young Link in Smash Bros Ultimate
There’s an orange version of Young Link’s tunic in Hyrule Warriors Legends, too
When another you gets a pallet swap for a game you're in, but you don't 😔
Shame we can't dye those legacy outfits in BoTW
the moon thing makes so much sense because that one game theory about how the moon is pointless exists but like if you open a black hole upon impact with the world yore probably gonna end it
The shield in the drawing looks like the one from the first Zelda game
In another zelda video, the mask on the mayor's chair is the moon with a happy face meaning the moon was always alive and was not evil.

I always thought that oracles side quest was a reference to the fact the 3rd oracles game on gbc never got made...
i think the carving on the tree is actually foreshadowing link's battle with Ganon's pig form
Scrolled for a few min for this comment. To me it always seemed so obvious.
I highly doubt it was foreshadowing a small boss.
or aquamentus from the first zelda
Skull Kid drew it; not Link. I think it depicts the Ancient Hero fighting The Imprisoned.
I basically have a little smirk on my face when the notification pic reads 'Zeltik'. I know every single time i'm in for yet another treat!
A Zeltik video? Oh man this gonna be good👌
There’s a glitch in oot where you can have arwings flying around. It’s a glitch, but it could be like Zelda and star fox are connected in a way.
It's not a glitch, it's well known it was used to test Z targeting.
they just never erased the data but you still need a cheat device to reactivate it.
null void ok thx I don’t actually have an n64. I just learned about it off of the internet.
"The Moon in Majora's Mask is one of the single most iconic visuals in the Zelda series"
*Showing the much less impactating version of it*
Right? It bugs the hell out of me when these content creators reference the classic games but then proceed to show footage from the 3DS remakes - which look terrible, IMO.
Not sure if it was ever mentioned before in these vids, but I've noticed that the Guardians in Breath of the Wild bare a striking resemblance to the transformation Midna takes when she uses the Fused Shadows in Twilight Princess... almost as if the Shiekah who made them were inspired by the strange otherworldly magic of the Twilight World
The MM moon being that asteroid from Star Fox explains why it's way too small to be an actual moon
Yep. If it was an actual moon, it would be as big as the entire map of Termina instead of just being the same size as Clock Town
Majora summoned an asteroid from another solar system - he's Sephiroth!
It is an actual moon look at jupiter it has hundreds of moons like this. As long as it rotates a planet it is a moon. But I understand why you think that way since many think earth's moon is how all moons should be...our moon is super rare and very special.
I just want to say, i love your voice, Zeltik. I enjoy listening to your videos more than some other zelda theory youtubers. Just wanted to say that.
Revail is Falco's ancestor confirmed
In the 80s, early 90s, you could buy toy bouncy balls that had grimacing faces like that. I always figured they were inspired by those, as they were so popular.
4:40 Jfc Jalhalla looks terrifying. They should’ve made that more prominent in the game
Dude i am so addicted to your content, it's not healthy
The poe fight in itself is a reference to boollossus from Luigi's Mansion.
I've always assumed the drawing outside Link's house was simply a premonition of Link fighting Ganon. lol
These Zelda secret videos are absolutely amazing. Incredibly interesting.
To the point of the tree house carving, I think it's much more likely because at the end of the game, Link is sent back in time. With his memories intact... Perhaps it's a wink at that. Maybe he recounts the adventures that he's had.

**instant flashback to me being too terrified to do anything**
when link traveled back in time in the end of ocarina of time, he could still have his memories as an adult, so the carving could be link drawing himself fighting dodongo (almost the same thing as the dream theory)
The lonely tree inside the moon in Majora's Mask always reminds me of the tree from Dr. Mario that the viruses sit on at the end of the game.
I was under the impression that you were saying the king of Poe’s was the moon from Majoras mask and it kinda blew my mind.
Can I just remind everyone how incredibly catchy that minish cap hyrule town theme is
Hang on, those footprints on death mountain DO appear to be dodongo prints, but could I mention that they also resemble the Goron crest?

No, he will be in the big leagues when he is sponsored by RAID SHADOW LEGENDS
My problem with squarespace is that they claim it's website building without the hassle, but the hassle is half the fun of building a website lmao
The tree drawing is definitely link vs ganon before we knew what he would look like.

If I remember correctly, there is an instance during Jalhalla's boss fight where he lifts the mask slightly to blow a long gust of wind to push link away from him. I saw it in my last playthrough, and I thought it was pretty neat.
I hope i'm not the only one who watched a ton of Zelda content while only owning and playing 3 games... Am I?

Well, I’ve only completed 3 and played 6, right now trying to beat OoT 3D and Skyward Sword(motion controls tho, ugh)
I must congratulate you zeltik. I watched one of your older videos and you have progressed so much. Excellent expert-level videos!

Nice job!
9:02 I just think he wanted fight a dinosaur tbh
Your brother's got talent. I like the outro theme.
I adore this mini series
Maybe the "moon" in *Majora's Mask* is actually an asteroid that got caught in Termina's orbit? This would explain why it's relatively so small & has so little effect on the planet as it looms so close.
I love your Zelda content and fun theories. Please never stop.
Or it could be Aquamentus the very first boss in the Zelda series. You never know
Skull Kid drew it.
Hans Ollo that’s what I was thinking too.
I think that the carving on link’s tree could be the hero of the sky confronting the imprisoned. As shown on the carving, the warrior has wings like an angel, so maybe that symbolizes skyloft.
8:38 i thought it was a mario and bowser ester egg but thats an interesting theory that makes sense too.
Thank you, now I know who to thank for the nightmares that grinning moon gave me in my childhood
I've always thought of the tree drawing and premonition dreams as Link being stuck in a never ending loophole of time. The dinosaur looking creature is actually Ganon.
Can we change this from a mini series to a series. I enjoy this so much
Fun fact: The etymology of Majora's name is a portmanteau of Takaya Imamura's name, with his favorite movie "jumanji".
