I bought completely new parts, from I7-9700K to I9-12900K, from DDR4 ram to DDR5 ram, new cooling, from Z370 to Z690, the only 2 components that stayed was the GPU and Storage. Windows had absolutely zero issues.

Same exact thing that I am doing except I’m keeping my processor and ram too beside the storage and gpu but other than installing motherboard drivers and stuff, did you have to do anything else?

This was just a long winded way of saying, "If you're buying a new motherboard that's the same as what you had, you don't need to reinstall Windows. Otherwise, you need to reinstall Windows." Also, that may not even be true, depending on the conditions of setup.

swapped motherboard and wanted to do a fresh install but the bios autoselected my drive with a bootable os on it and it just worked flawlessly
I just swapped a broken x570 asus tuf to msi mpg extreme, and no issues at all, i also got higher scores in cpu benchmark 24k before 26k after (cinebench r23) no problems at all so far
I want to go from my tuf gaming b550 wifi ii to a rog strix b550-f but dont want to go though the hassle of reinstalling stuff please let me know if this would be seamless or not. I am not changing any other chip sets its the same as whats currently on it i want on a new board

Personally, when I switched from an old Intel cpu, mobo and ram to newer AMD stuff, I found my PC to run smoother and my performance to be better after I reinstalled windows. I didn't even delete the personal files I chose the "keep my files" and it worked great

Intel Xeon CPU- E3-1245 V2 and Asus P8Z68-V LX changed to Asus TUF GAMING B550-PLUS and Ryzen 3600. No issues with Windows 10.
I went from a gigabyte z170 Mobo/i7 6700k to MSI z790/12600k. I was able to boot and run everything. But my old setup had TPM2 disabled. When i try to updrade to windows 11 with the new setup PC health check shows i meet all requirements and my bios also shows tpm2 is enabled but something is still not allowing me to update to Windows 11. Any ideas what i should do? Ive tried multiple things and already and have searched UA-cam and google with no luck updating .
make sure the tpm2 is enabled if not you might have to do a clean install using a usb drive but make sure to backup

Did you ever find this out? I'm upgrading from an i5 7700k to an i7 13700k and I fear the same thing. I have to upgrade my mobo too so I'm not sure that will be a deciding factor for me either.

I just build in a B550 gaming plus and a neW CPU but didnt do any things before like backup and stuff and now it doenst boot windows and goes instantly into bios i need help
@@sleyedbasti480 try unpluging all storage drive that not have windows.
basically just plug only the bootable drive then restart the pc.
If you activated windows with a scd key on one mobo, when you swap motherboards do you have to activate it again?
Won't be able to reinsert the old key, but you can transfer it to your new system.

Im upgrading my cpu from ryzen 5 1600 to 5600 with same mobo asrock a320m and boom my pc always shut down when running game/software, i asked this issue to a facebook forum they say i have to reinstall windows everytime you change/upgrade your cpu.

I went from a ryzen 5 5600x to a intel i9 12900k and changed my motherboard case ram and everything but storage and my gpu and now it doesn’t let me sign in on windows help me bro

Sometimes it requires a new key with significant hardware changes, at least that was how it used to be
@@santijeffers it was an issue with the motherboartd, i fixed it by using an external wifi adapter to sign in and then updating the bios and its all fixed now

Well, im going from an i7-3770k and Asus p8z77 mobo to an i5-11500 and ROG Maximus 12 (originally bought a strix z490 but it was defective and nobody had them in stock anymore and i didnt wanna go for MSI) so wish me luck 😂

@user-sr5st9ke5y it was an absolute nightmare that took several months, multiple visits to different computer shops and the final threat of lawsuit against the original retailer of the parts before it would even turn on, its a beauty now though 😂
my 970Z msi i9 mb is trash my boot drive is in cms mode to even get windows loaded had al;ot of issues considering its a 350$ mb, swapping it out for same chipset and type by ASUS brand dark knight 600$ board should go alot smoother :) hope win boots lol if not ill reinstall in UFEI mode same with fortnite if so.
i have a few questions/ways in which i want to ask how to do this. hopefully i can get a response.
im fully upgrading my pc. my old motherboard is msi (im not sure which it is, but its at least 10 years old) and my new motherboard is also msi (mag b550 tomahawk max wifi). my processor in the old pc is intel, but my new processor is amd (ryzen 7 5700x). my windows version is a free upgrade from 8 to 10, so my license is digital/attached to my account.
so my questions for possible actions are:
- if i put the windows media creation tool on a usb & install it that way on my ssd, can i active windows by just signing into my microsoft account?
- if i place my old hard drive with windows into my pc with my new ssd, can i install windows & activate it onto the new ssd then use that as the only storage/boot drive & remove the hard drive afterward?
- if i place my new ssd into my old pc, & install windows onto that, will that work?
whichever option is easiest/the least amount of hassle, i would like to know. i legitimately bought windows 8, but i no longer have the key for it. the last time i installed windows fresh on my current pc, all i needed to do was have my old hard drive connected & it installed on my newer hard drive just fine. after signing into my microsoft account, windows was activated. this is the only way ive ever done it though & im not sure if that would work with a brand new motherboard & different cpu.
Ok I am going to tell you what I think based on my personal experience
I think it would be way easier to manually backup all your files in a portable hard drive and do a clean install of windows 11 on your new pc.
now as of your old pc you have to link your license to your Microsoft account.
now you can search it up in google and Microsoft website for more info on how to do it
then you can deactivate the windows key on your old pc and once you link your Microsoft account on the new pc it should get activated.
I prefer clean install when getting a new pc since you are changing everything from mobo, CPU, and other parts it should get driver issues if you don't do clean install.
again everything I said are based on my experience make sure to do your research before you proceed.

I’m going to clone my nvme in my 5800x gigabyte mobo and install it in a asus mobo with 7900x. Will see what happens

Do you have to reinstall the operating system when you change your platform hardware? No.
But do you want to do it to maximize stability and performance, to minimize buggy broken bloat? Yes.
Actually i didn't think of that. I could just buy a new nvme SSD, pop the others in external drives and keep all my old files etc.
Saying that, I'm only trying to upgrade my CPU from compatible hardware using the X570 chipsets so my music software runs better.

your first mistake was buying a legal copy of windows :(
