Your teaching is simple, honest and very clear. It encompasses all the issues that I run into when I crochet. I thank you for this instruction and this potholder pattern which I am happy to be working on now.
I have been making a variation of this "Magic Square" potholder for many years. Three small differences: 1. Start with 40 stitches using a J hook makes an 8" square potholder. I have a large hand and I crochet tighter. 2. Crochet in back loops only gives a ridge that is pretty and improves the grip. 3. The sewing tail is plenty long enough if it is twice as long as the diagonal of the potholder.
My Mom made these, and I'm only recently realizing there is no pot holder you can buy that's as thick and protective as these double-thick cotton ones are. I wish I'd been interested in learning to make these when she was still with us. I've purchased a few from people who made them for me to give as gifts (I cannot part with the last few of the unused ones my Mom made). Now, I think I might actually use the yarn left over from the ones I had made by a friend and give it a try making one from the scraps. Your video is done so well, giving little pointers along the way, just as if I were sitting with my Mom or Grandma as I did as a child. ❤️ Thank you so much for sharing!
The yarn you’re using is exactly what I’ve been looking for to make Indian corn 🌽! I’ve been buying my yarn Peaches & cream from Walmart , they used to have a nice selection of the variegated colors but not anymore , I especially like the thickness! The new “ cakes “ as they call them aren’t good , the yarn is very thin , doesn’t meet the standards of the other yarn ! I love variegated colors , have lots of scraps , do the same as you make scrappy dishcloths or potholders, I mean my dishes aren’t going to mind , neither will my pots , as long as I don’t get burnt ! Another project is making some chicken heads crochet , you add a magnet & put on your refrigerator they’re about 21/2 x 21/2 squares I add the beak, wattle, head & eyes
Hi miss Tanya, I have been looking for this potholder pattern for a very long time. My aunt, who is no longer with living, made me several of these potholders. I just love them. She made hers out of scrap yarn of whatever she had. I have lots of scrape yarn that I want to make some potholders. So happy I found you. Thanks again.
I’ve wanted to try this for a while but was afraid of cotton yard. Anyway, I chained 40 and was off and running. Completed one in about 3 hours (I’m a slow crocheter) and was very happy with how it turned out. Then I messed up on the closing whip stitch. My square pot holder is now a rectangle. Oh well, live and learn. Thanks for the video: it gave me the courage to try this. Now I’m off to make more SQUARE pot holders.
This made me smile. ❤😊. You never know when a rectangular one might come in handy. Your attitude is awesome. I love when I read notes from others who don't always do something perfectly and share their story. I think it makes us all feel a little better about ourselves.
You did a great job of teaching this potholder. Watching you truly gives me the confidence in need to make one or two. And I’m really appreciate the color change . Thanks!😊
Making potholders now with this pattern. So easy. ❤️ thanks for the hint on changing yarn. Tried so many patterns but this one is the easiest and fastest one to make. ❤️
It is nice to see a crocheter who holds the hook with the pencil grip. I tried holding my hook like one holds a knife, but it just didn’t feel comfortable.
I am so inspired to buy a crochet hook now ! I have always wanted to try crochet but never learnt how to. Your instruction was great Tanya. Thank you !
Good evening 👋😊 Tanya 🌹 very nice project congrats 🎉 i think it's a great thing to do also stay safe and be careful hope your able to find a place for your mom 🙏✍️🖌️🎨💌👋😊🌹
Oh my this is so cool, thanks for sharing. How many rounds does it usually take to complete? Just curious since you made several! Instead of sewing i just made a crochet flat seam on mine.
I really enjoyed seeing you create this potholder. I have a question? Have you tried it out to see if it withstands against heat and your hand? I watched another creative lady crochet with two stands of cotton yarn. Just curious Be Well and thank you
I’ve had 2 that were made by an aunt many years ago and they’ve literally held up for decades. Never an issue with heat and I’ve used them to pull turkey out of the oven many times over the years and hot ceramic pots too. As you wash them they will shrink a bit and become even more dense.
What a beautiful potholder. The colors are amazing!!!
YES...Super job of showing us exactly how to do it. TANYA YOU ARE A GOOD TEACHER.
Thank you for sharing. GOT IT.

Thank you so much, you are so easy to follow, God Bless You
Good warning about the polyester content and to check the labels!
I have had things melt before which is why I am so careful. thanks
I love these hot pads, I need to make some more.
me too they are nice and thick
You did good teaching this.
What size needle do you used. Do you have written patterns?
What is the chain count?
Do you put 2sc in the corner to square it out?
you can use Wood - also cotton and bamboo

Hi it ends up being 2 layers thick and I have several I use all the time. Make sure to use all cotton yarn and a hook to make a solid fabric not loose

Nice pattern. What size needle and do you have written pattern
Thanks there is no written pattern just the info in the video. And the needle size depends on which yarn but I just grab something most times
I am a shut in but can still crochet people want to buy them. How much do they sell for
Hi I have never sold them. I make them for myself and gifts. Sorry I can't help.
How can I get pattern for dish washser rugs and pot holder?
There is no written pattern just the info in the video
Where can I find the free pattern?
I don't know of a written pattern the video talks about how I make them and all the steps involved.
@@TanyaMcGuire thanks
