You guys have to make an update video later on with Jamie's dish being served in the restaurant. Not that his wasn't good, obviously since he won, but i'd really like to see how they'd make it in a high tier restaurant.
I'm with you on this one, but sadly with the photography, he got in his own way. I grew up with professional photographers, my parents owned a studio and photo lab/dark-room, so I soaked it all in for 10+ years, to the point when I mouthed off at the HS photography teacher that I could teacher the class and she said "prove it," I did. Barry was thinking as a studio/professional photographer, not a food photographer, which are VERY different. When I was working at a 5 star hotel, the banquet manager was a food photographer and actually spent a week with me on how to frame and take photos, then how to properly match with menu wording and so on for our room menus and our sales department paperwork. It was like nothing I've ever done before.

Ikr, even at the end with all the chaos happening and the time running out, he was a calming presence. He seems like someone who can judge you fairly and without sentiment, but he won't make you feel like shit about it and you can go grab a beer afterwards.
I always get the impression that the normals come up with the idea and work with the food team to actually create the recipe. I think that's how they used to do it with James, anyway.
So, Jamie has put himself into some spots, but has rescued the dishes repeatedly. I think it's time for at LEAST a bronze "Rescue Badge" (or a silver even??)

After making a mistake by saying he'll put one dish on the menu in his restaurant, he obviously had to go for the dish that would pull the offerings as a whole down the least. While he can make all the tweaks he wants in regards to presentation, quality and quantity later, the core flavors need to blend great. I think that Barry's not only was too similar to what he already had on his menu, but also that the flavor profile wasn't distinguished enough. Those are aspects you can't really fix with finetuning the execution.
@@Aviertje he said that he'll put one dish on the menu after they presented the concept of their dishes though. He probably thought of the concepts and already thought of how he was going to incorporate them into his menu.
I'm glad Jamie thought of the microwave this time. There's been a lot of times when the food was undercooked and nobody thought of the microwave. Once when Mike's brownie was undercooked in a silicone pan I was yelling at the screen "put it in the microwave" was it only me? LOL!

At sub 1:00 in to the episode Ebbers said that Jamie and Barry had plenty of time with the food team to come up with recipies. I want a battle where the "normals" work alone. No food team help. I mean, this year we are testing to see if they are more than normal, are they amateur home chefs. Make them do all the work!

Let them learn and test on their own without help or assistance from a food team.

The normals are just following a recipe that they have already tasted, anyone can do that, in fact I did it at school 30 odd years ago. The idea of testing the normals is surely to see if they have learnt anything over the years. Otherwise they should only get a read basic instructions badge

i can’t tell how they tasted and the twist on the eggs was pretty clever, but the salad and green stuffed chicken looked so beautiful and way more appetizing.
Something tells me if he hadn't overcooked it, it might have won. They loved every aspect of it but the dryness lost him the battle to Jamie's moister chicken.

Just thinking how cool it would be to do a mini series where Ben demonstrates a basic chefs skill such as quenelles, making a stock, deboning a chicken thigh etc and then the normals have to replicate it. Could be an opportunity for some badges if the boys get it 100% right and would be really interesting to see how to do some of the more complex skills that we could maybe do at home!
It's always great to see someone else's recipe make it onto a professional menu. Most chefs brainstorm with the team (or a menu planner) on off-days to come up with something, and it is by no means an easy feat to whip up an idea that can be served to the masses. If a chef is willing to adopt a recipe, it must hit a number of key points for the envisioned menu.

Good battle, very close too I thought. Was wondering on the badges front is a "Sauces" badge would be a good idea? A good saucier can really make a difference in the kitchen & we know the guys like a "Velouté". Maybe some of the less used sauces like Sauce gribiche, Tkemali, Avgolemono, Wow-Wow sauce or Cumberland sauce.

Jaime deserved the win for the idea & final result despite the hiccups in the middle. I think the main contributing factors to Barry's loss was that it was under seasoned and overcooked or on the dry side.

Boiled egg peeling tip - pour out the boiled water (I like 7.5 minutes for a fudgey middle), replace in the same pot with cold water for a few minutes. Take an egg, crack it, and (what I find really helps) roll it on the counter to crack around the perimeter. As James said peel the egg in the water and it should be super easy, and the shell pieces if any on the egg or your fingers easily rinse off. Don't skip the rolling step.
While I love these videos, and having heist chefs on is brilliant, I do miss the classic three normals in the kitchen chaos and sabotage of an ultimate battle

I'm glad Jamie thought of the microwave this time. There's been a lot of times when the food was undercooked and nobody thought of the microwave. Once when Mike's brownie was undercooked in a silicone pan I was yelling at the screen "put it in the microwave" was it only me? LOL!

At sub 1:00 in to the episode Ebbers said that Jamie and Barry had plenty of time with the food team to come up with recipies. I want a battle where the "normals" work alone. No food team help. I mean, this year we are testing to see if they are more than normal, are they amateur home chefs. Make them do all the work!

I'm just using this video as an example, especially as this year the chefs are testing the normals about their cooking skills and knowledge. Let them learn and test on their own without help or assistance from a food team.
@@LordDonnington725 they don't do the prep, they come up with the idea, create the recipe, test it to ensure it works then tweak where needed. The normals are just following a recipe that they have already tasted, anyone can do that, in fact I did it at school 30 odd years ago.
The idea of testing the normals is surely to see if they have learnt anything over the years. Otherwise they should only get a read basic instructions badge

i can’t tell how they tasted and the twist on the eggs was pretty clever, but the salad and green stuffed chicken looked so beautiful and way more appetizing.
Something tells me if he hadn't overcooked it, it might have won. They loved every aspect of it but the dryness lost him the battle to Jamie's moister chicken.

James Cochran is an absolute London legend.
Just thinking how cool it would be to do a mini series where Ben demonstrates a basic chefs skill such as quenelles, making a stock, deboning a chicken thigh etc and then the normals have to replicate it. Could be an opportunity for some badges if the boys get it 100% right and would be really interesting to see how to do some of the more complex skills that we could maybe do at home!

It's always great to see someone else's recipe make it onto a professional menu. Most chefs brainstorm with the team (or a menu planner) on off-days to come up with something, and it is by no means an easy feat to whip up an idea that can be served to the masses. If a chef is willing to adopt a recipe, it must hit a number of key points for the envisioned menu.

Was wondering on the badges front is a "Sauces" badge would be a good idea? A good saucier can really make a difference in the kitchen & we know the guys like a "Velouté". Maybe some of the less used sauces like Sauce gribiche, Tkemali, Avgolemono, Wow-Wow sauce or Cumberland sauce.

jamie's recipe decisions always sound really good. I love the idea of a scotch egg with deviled egg filling. going back and watching their early videos jamie's food choices speak to my inner fat guy. I like that he's reeled it in some but still chooses those types of recipes.

Jaime deserved the win for the idea & final result despite the hiccups in the middle. I think the main contributing factors to Barry's loss was that it was under seasoned and overcooked or on the dry side.

Boiled egg peeling tip - pour out the boiled water (I like 7.5 minutes for a fudgey middle), replace in the same pot with cold water for a few minutes. Take an egg, crack it, and (what I find really helps) roll it on the counter to crack around the perimeter. As James said peel the egg in the water and it should be super easy, and the shell pieces if any on the egg or your fingers easily rinse off. Don't skip the rolling step.
While I love these videos, and having heist chefs on is brilliant, I do miss the classic three normals in the kitchen chaos and sabotage of an ultimate battle
