How to Mine with two RTX 3060 on 1 Motherboard - 48+ MH

  • In today's video, I am going to show you how I managed to put two 3060s on the same motherboard and successfully get 48+ MH on each.
For this to be successful, you need a motherboard that can support two GPUs with each getting 8 PCIe lanes of version 3.0 and above. You also need to plug in your GPUs to a display or use a display dummy dongle.
The build parts are the following:
    Gigabyte Z370 XP SLI Motherboard
    Intel i7-8700K
    MSI RTX 3060
    Asus RTX 3060
The dummy dongles that I bought were these ones: www.amazon.ca/...
I have found another reasonably priced motherboard that can potentially support this: The ASUS PRIME Z390-A. I have not tested it, so please look into it before you buy it.
I hope you found this video useful. Thank you for watching.

Hi Efe, that motherboard won't be able to support 3 RTX 3060s. It won't even support 2.One will have a limited hashrate. You'll need a motherboard that can function in x8,x8 mode on at least 2 PCIE lanes. Very few motherboards can support more than two 3060s.

Thanks for the share, your build gave me an idea of having a purposely built quad SLI board just for 3060 mining, or maybe a board with dual pcie 3.0 x16/x16 slots splitted with dual x8/x8 pcie bifurcation risers to 4 gpus.

Hi Luan, thank you for watching the video. The only reason why I built two RTX 3060s on a single motherboard is because of the specific requirements of that GPU. Since NVIDIA nerfed the cards, they need to have a specific motherboard and driver to work. That's why I put them on 1 motherboard.

Hi Daftendirekt, the 3090s don't have any special requirements for boards. Are you using it with risers or without risers. Any board with two x16 lanes will be good. If you're using risers, then in theory you'd need only one x16 physical lane.

That's weird John. you're right. I got the notification and couldn't find the comment. To answer your question, the B460 HD3 won't work as it doesn't have a second x8 mode. Informative video. I am having trouble to get my second 3060 to full MH connected to a ROG STRIX B450-F Gaming. Any ideas what might be causing the issue? I tried swapping UHD Dummy Plugs and Connecting to an external monitor, but it is stuck at 14 MH/s. Both cards deliver 48 MH/s when used single handedly.

Hi Safeer. Thanks for watching the video :) it's probably because that motherboard doesn't support two 3060s on it. If you check the specs, you'll see that it has 2 x PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16 (x16 or x8/x4). You need at least x8,x8 mode for this to work.

hi, great vid. thanks! questions: can you supply 2 3060 Ti GPU with 750W only? taught you'd need at least 1200W. Also, if you use 2 GPU x16 the board will convert them to x8, correct? You supposedly loose around 10-20% -- Is that why your getting 50 ish Hashrate instead of around 60? (i read that's what a 3060 Ti would do). thanks again!

Hi Jay. My knowledge is limited on this and I haven't looked into 4 way SLI motherboards, but I'm aware of folks who successfully did it on an X99 motherboard with a Xeon CPU. I've seen those mobos start at $500-600 and the CPUs are also not cheap. In my case, it was cheaper for me to build two PCs each having 2 GPUs in it than have 4 of them on one board. It takes more space but it was cheaper than getting the X99 and the required CPU. The cheapest new mobo that supports two 3060s that I found is the Asus prime z390A. I hope that helps a bit.

@@JayComedyDirector That motherboard is a beat and it should allow for four 3060s since it has 4 x PCIe 3.0 x16 (single at x16, dual at x16/x16 mode, triple at x16/x8/x8 mode or quad x8/x8/x8/x8 mode).
Was it at a reasonable price?

Hi Vip. I don't recall the exact wattage on this build to be honest, but if you're putting in 2 cards, 850W will be way more than enough. You could get away with 750W as well.

So it seems like this motherboard issue is only for mining Eth? I'm running 2x 3060 with a Asrock B365 Phantom Gaming 4 motherboard and getting reduced hash rate because the second PCIe slot does not support x8. But when I mine Ravencoin both GPUs are running full speed. Gonna try ETC next and see what speeds I get.

    • @DaniTalksTech
      @DaniTalksTech  3 роки тому

Yeah Daniel the reduced hashrate is only for ethereum. The 3060s can mine at full hashrate on other algorithms unless you have the appropriate motherboard.

Hi Simran, is it the Carbon AC? If that's the mobo you are using, then i don't think it will support two 3060s. I saw the specs and it seems like it can only support one.

@@danielcomanici5363 Hi Daniel. I don't think the motherboard can do an x8 and x8 mode. Looking at its specs, it can do x8 and x4 when two GPUs are in. Either way, that shouldn't affect the 3060tis. The video I made was for non LHR 3060s. The 3060tis should work fine regardless of the mobo you're using as they don't need the full x8 to work (unless they are LHR, then that's a whole different story).
