    My youngest just went to college this August but our Charlotte Mason homeschool years are some of the fondest memories of my life. I have carried the highlights of her routine for many years even incorporating some handicrafts into my own own "empty nester" days. I make candles, paint, play piano and today I dried orange slices for a Christmas tree decoration. Her routine brings calm yet purposeful meaning into any season of life.

      I can echo your comment. As a retired Charlotte Mason homeschool Mom, I still live the same lifestyle that we implemented with our children. Her principles have become a part of me. Loving nature, working hard, resting well, journaling, the love of books and beauty....⭐

    I too enjoy going to bed around 8:45 pm and dipping in and out of the seasonal books which I keep on my bedside table. For the autumn season I like to read a few haunting tales, poems about nature in the Autumn, Persuasion by Jane Austen which I read every Autumn, and I often have an audio book on the go as well. Right now it’s Hallowe’een Party by Agatha Christie which I admit is a little disturbing for bedtime listening. I’m rereading Rebecca by Daphne DuMaurier which is my current haunting read. I’ve become a real DuMaurier fan in part because of visits I have made to Cornwall England. I’ve just finished Frenchman’s Creek which was quite an adventure if you like reading about pirates! So I do like Mason’s 8:45 pm reading routine especially in the Autumn as the days are growing shorter and shorter. 🍁

    Feeding the birds in the winter is a delight. Where we live, we need to wait for the bears to go into hibernation before we can feed them and need to stop about mid-March.

    • @carolynmaves503
      @carolynmaves503 3 місяці тому +2

      Here in northern Wisconsin we also limit our bird feeding during the warm months. It is uncomfortable having bears in your yard and annoying when they break your feeders. Nature watching is wonderful but be safe, people. 🙂

    My friends and I have a CM book club, we are CM homeschoolers, and CM honestly changed my entire perspective on parenting and education. With that said, I am not a purist.
    She didn’t have children of her own, which means she never had a schedule that involved pregnancy, nursing, and childcare. Her educational methods are for all income levels, but it’s clear that it’s assumed most people she talked to would have had a servant or 2 or at least a housemaid. Also, she ran a school where there was schooling 6 days a week, and again, cooking and cleaning or working an extra job were not on the list.
    I truly love this video though! Thank you for introducing CM as a person to people! I actually found your channel from your videos talking about life advice from Farmer Boy and Little Women. I read Little Women after that, and I fell in love with it. It has become my favorite fiction book of all time thanks to your videos!

    I enjoyed your video and getting to know a bit more about Charlotte Mason. The idea of doing a famous person’s daily routine reminded me of Nathaniel Drew’s series three years ago where he would follow someone’s daily routine and explain why he chose that person. It was very inspiring to see him do the daily routines of The Dalai Lama, Maya Angelou, Picasso, Einstein, Frida Kahlo, Van Gogh, etc.

    What fun! You really observed her schedule with intentionality and whimsy! I have tried on her schedule before and it really is interesting to follow rhythms of someone you admire and respect. There are lots of reasons why it works or doesn't work but it is still fun to "walk in someone else's shoes" sometimes. Our family is reading "Swiss Family Robinson" in the evenings. Sayers is my classic detective read and I have a few others going for morning and tea time. Charlotte is such an inspiration for living a literary life, among other things. Cheers!

    This was so fun to watch! We've been using Charlotte Mason's philosophies in our homeschool for many years. I was fascinated by Richele Baburina's articles on her trying of Charlotte's schedule for a month and have thought about it off and on ever since I first read it. The varied reading really stands out to me and just that she was so intentional about her days.

    We had a Charlotte Mason homeschool experience. It was lovely. My young adult children still reminisce on the afternoon tea, poetry, and read aloud. The narrations and copy work did their work. All of them are great communicators with a rich vocabulary. They comment on the things they “know” that their peers seem to have never been exposed to. What a lovely way to learn. I know you are enjoying it. I miss it and remember it fondly.

    I also recommend the books by Karen Glass when learning about Charlotte Mason. She has one called Consider This, and another called Know and Tell, The Art of Narration. And the podcast The New Mason Jar by Cindy Rollins. I used Ambleside Online with my children.

    Could you do a video where you discuss what you give your children for meals most days and when they go to campus? I am often put off by the sandwiches discussed by most food blogs. My husband and I have been eating low carb/high veg/lean protein in the past year I notice your diet is similar since you began intermittent fasting a few years ago. I often just pack my husband dinner leftovers for his lunch and that works well.

      I would say I still eat a lot of carbs... Definitely not low carb. Thank you for the request!

    Did Charlotte Mason have household servants? I liked how her day was broken in a variety of tasks with reading throughout the day. But I have cleaning, laundry, yard work/gardening, meal prep and clean up each day. There is a variety and each day looks different. My husband and I are retired and have part time jobs. I know my day is more slowly paced than you young mothers with children. Thanks for the interesting video.

      You can listen to audiobooks while doing your tasks. I'm 53 and have really found this a boon to my creativity and an energy boost.

    Good video. So interesting to follow a routine from the Victorian age and compare with today's routine. Thanks for sharing.
